Love the concept of taking last years big boomer (the burger) and giving it a fresh look. Little Bao is one of my favourites in Hong Kong. Was eager to try this out. The pork belly Bao was tough and had a piece of bone in it, it also had no sauce whatsoever to bring it together, come to think of it there wasn't even a slaw to make it palatable. The baoburger was a small slab of over cooked party in a dry bun. I have eaten a lot of places in HK this was my worst experience!

The first drink I tried was the Typhoon No. 10 ($158) with Tanqueray to.10, osmanthus honey, orange juice, lemon juice, egg white and osmanthus jelly cakes on the side. It even came with a blown out paper umbrella to remind us of our love-hate relationships with typhoons - love because it gets us out of work and hate because of the wet mess! The drink was sweet and easy to drink while the osmanthus jelly cakes were a nice complement.

Cheers to our youth with our favorite childhood drinks spiked - Yakult Shot ($78) with soju and yakult and Childhood Memory ($108) with spiced rum, Bailey’s and vitasoy malt. Unfortunately I couldn't taste much alcohol in my Yakult shot so I'm not sure they are worth the premium over the originals.

To go with our drinks, we had a feast of its Asian and Western inspired dishes which are basically all small plates and meant for sharing. Some of my favorites were the Chicken Lollipops ($98) with chicken wings and Sichuan sauce and the Korean Bulgolgi Lettuce Wrap ($128) with prime beef short ribs, kimchi, beansprout, shichimi and romaine.

The Kobe Pork Belly Bao ($88) with sous-vide Kobe pork belly, portobello and apricot salsa was good but I thought the price was a bit steep for one bao.

Since I love Mapo Tofu, I was hoping that the Mapo Tofu Fries ($88) with fries, minced pork, tofu, chili and spring onion would work but sadly I didn't really taste the Mapo Tofu and the flavors just didn't mesh together for me here.

The Bao Bites Trio ($128) with Wagyu beef with XO sauce, miso cod fillet, and quail with Sichuan chili sauce arrived in cute little baskets. The creations were certainly interesting but it would have been better if the size was a little bigger so I can truly taste the ingredients.

I was pleasantly surprised with the desserts here though with the Banana Nutella Crepe Wontons ($78) and especially the Deep Fried Milk Pudding ($78) with milk pudding, blueberry and passion fruit sauce which was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! It came with little tubes of passion fruit sauce for us to squeeze into our pudding which went quite well with the fried milk.

Verdict - while prices can be a bit high for the portion, I like the idea of a Hong Kong inspired lounge which is nicely executed here and I think that the cozy environment makes Bao Bei a great place to hang out with close friends in LKF where you can reminisce on your childhood with spiked Yakult and Vitasoy!

The shrimp cigar is basically spring roll filled with shrimp paste that comes with Thai chili sauce and shrimp roe powder, whereas we loved the crispy chicken lollipop with a Sichuan brown sauce and the poutine made with french fries, melted cheese and mapo tofu minced pork.
The mushrrom risotto is cooked al dente, seasoned with wonderful truffle sauce.
We rounded off the menu with some childhood favourite desserts, such as an extremely interesting Asian style deep fried milk pudding with passionfruit sauce in a mini pipette.

Taiwanese Braised Pork Risotto

Ingredients 包括:vodka, godiva chocolate liqueur, chocolate milk, ovaltine, toasted marshmallow.

They offered a bar area right next to the reception, with a good selection of spirits, i had a few drinks today so I guess it is the safest way to get some cocktails with minimal amount of alcohol.

My drink is like a Serradura grasshopper, a slushie style plus cream and milo power on top, more or less a sweet treat after dinner too, very refreshing and yummy, using the old school containers which remind me of those ice cream sundae i had in those chinese style steak house. Kinda sweet and doesnt taste like a cocktail at all.

Since I am having a dinner appointment afterwards, we decided to grab a bite with a few snacks so I wont have a full stomach when I am at the dinner appointment, a bowl of spicy peanuts was served before our order, complimentary, they were so good, dried nicely but every pieces of them coated with the spicy glaze, they should so produce packet size for me to buy home lol!

Sichuan Edamame was served , which I would regard it as a good companion with drinks, on top of the normal boiling Edamame with Sichuan Pepper and chili oil seasoning, it wasn't really spicy but instead was tasty enough, feeling great with eating one piece of Edamame then have a zip of drinks.

J said that Shrimp Cigar is worth to try, I do cigar sometimes but probably my first ever shrimp roe cigar. Love their mini bao bei mini cigar ring on every pieces , making it so real. Very crispy and I liked how they serve the dippings, dip it with the thai chili sauce then roll in the toasted shrimp roe plate, every bite of it carried a very strong shrimp taste.

The Hainan chicken rice crisp looks like a decent chinese dim sum, Rice crisps, chinese yam and yellow chicken with sweet soy and topped with Ginger caviar. J said that it taste better than what she had last time. I liked it especially the ginger caviar, but I bet with a sticky sweet soy glaze on the chicken will make the flavor stands outs
Nice presentation though.

We had two main dishes to end our snack peak tonight, both were recommended from J, The taiwanese braised pork belly risotto was the first one, very similar with the taiwanese mince pork rice, they added some truffle paste and replaced the rice with risotto, al dente texture, and every piece of rice were nicely coated with a small amount of lard with a strong truffle aroma and taste, went so well with the pork belly, mushrooms and spring onion, superb!!!!

Finally, Mapo tofu fries (aka chinese style poutine), a good asian twist on this dish, although the mapo tofu taste doent taste too strong and is relatively firmed since they didnt want to make the fries soggy, I can never imagine mapo tofu could go so well with cheese, a truly impressive dish.
