I tried the Latte and the froth was very poor. I am not sure it is due to the milk they use. It tasted very watery. It is one of the worst coffee that i had in Hong Kong. My friend brought me here so it as not one of my first choice to go for a coffee. The Pacific Coffee and Starbucks is much cheaper. Why is it called a Cafe if they dont serve good coffee? The meal i had was the Crab Tartine to start with. The Crab was over salty and seemed a bit too old for the smell.
Then my friend had the Burger and the meat was still red inside, i didnt like it.
It is also too expensive for what it is. The bakery next door, is it the same people ? If they bake their own bread, they must be able to offer it cheaper or at least as cheap as Maxim's Bakery?

玉桂的香氣一直存在空氣裡,至上桌時更為濃烈,刀輕輕一切可清楚看見蘋果撻內裡的層次。

沾上 Vanilla Cream,可緩和其甜漏,美中不足是略為黏牙,但仍值得一試。

員工整體雖年輕,但服務很細心周到,數次為我們更換食碟皆提醒因剛從碗碟機取出,故需小心觸手熱燙。

這就是我愛光顧小店的原因 - 不管其地理位置多偏遠,均有其獨特的一面:

設計環境、遊閒感覺、貼心服務...這全都是連鎖店所不能提供的。

It was a Sunday morning, around 10:45am, and the cafe was already filled with people. The server greeted us, and as we waited, I sneaked into Po's Atelier which hosted a hypnotising variety of artisan breads. After short 15 minutes or so, we took seats at the bar table.




I was studying the menu (nicely and cutely printed on a long, thin sheet of paper(it is slightly sticky though..

Upon enquiring, I came to know that "Dirty" is cold milk stained with hot espresso. My skinny, single-shot espresso version was served and I was told not to stir or mix and just enjoy.
Beautiful layerings for sight. Their choice of coffee beans is slightly towards the sour and herbal side; not my top pick of coffee style. Nonetheless, the cold, creamy and soothing milk coupled with the hot, aromatic and prononuced espresso, unmixed and undisturbed, was certainly a stimulating sip.
Definitely a good option if you want to try something different on a steamy day.

First up, Poached Egg and Prosciutto (only available till 12:30pm). Basically it is egg benedict with prosciutto and rocket. Promising quality proscuitto and fresh rockets. Excellently done poached egg; just look at the runny centre! The elegant and smokey proscuitto was nicely balanced with the hint of sweet-bitterness from the rockets; the rich and velvety yolk brought everything together to a creamy mouthful
. Though, blame it on the hollandaise sauce which was relatively bland...
(you could sense so from the pale colour and watery texture of the sauce...); not a memorable egg benedict (I am sorry, but the one I made was probably more delicious
). The red peppery spice sprinkled on top did not give the needed kick either. Overall, it was just okay for me.

Now, this was the reason I went - Spiced Apple Tart; and I am pleased to report that it was truly impeccable and heavenly. When we made our order, the server told us that the Apple Tarts are only available, freshly baked, from around 11:30am (perfect timing for us
). It was a gorgeous pastry itself; you could see the thin slices of apples stacked up on the golden glazed, caramalised base topped with white cinnamon sugar.
Freshly baked, served pipping hot!!
Each slice of apple was soaked inside-out with delicious caramel and fragrant cinnamon; but the natural fruitiness of the apple still surprisingly shone through. The side of the pastry was light, crispy and reminded me of warm roasted butter. The base was the star; moist and chewy infused with nutty caramel. Salted caramel sauce drizzled on the plate sharpened the flavours and cold creamy vanilla cream by the side was refreshing. It was a hearty and harmonious piece.
Divine, truly scrumptious!
I will come back again and again and again just for this (even if I have to "hike"
).

To end, Bostock, a luscious delicacy. The eggy brioche bread was thickly sliced, almond-syrup soaked, frangipane topped and baked to a crispy-edged breakfast glory.Topped with thick golden-brown caramel sauce and lightly roasted almond slices; it was served very warm and delightful. I loved the edges, all 4 sides, all toasty and complimented the buttery and rich bostock very well. The caramel sauce gave a sharp and robust syrupy and tangy edge, and the almonds added a further nutty dimension and a hint of crunchiness to this sweet treat. Very, very satisfying.

If life brings you to a deadend, perhaps consider paying a visit to Cafe Deadend, be pampered and "energised"!?

Arrived shortly afterwards, but long enough for me to be bitten quite a few times by insects. The waitress noticed this and kindly brought some mopiko over. Thanks, guess that this is a common issue here.

The BELT arrived (I asked for it to not have mustard dressing due to allergies) and it was pretty big. And messy. The egg was large. But good. I think if there was dressing inside, with the tomato & lettuce it'd be really nice. Without it, just good.

The mrs had the crab tartine. Loved it. Apple, onion, crab, avocado, lettuce & tomato open sandwich. Recommended.

By the time we ate our dishes, the place was packed, and people were already queuing up... The steak focaccia had sold out and the bread selection was very popular.

One dish & one drink and it's nearly 200 HKD.. that's quite pricey... but tasted good. I'll be back if i'm in the neighbourhood, but quite a trek uphill in this summer heat... may be not.

其實很想給劣評,很想不推介給大家......因為自私的我不想每次吃Apple Tart也要排隊,或者要像比我們遲來只有20分鐘的女生一樣面對Apple Tart沽清的失望。但是真是有點兒跟良心過意不去,所以推薦給無論喜歡蘋果撻與否的各位!

Waitress端來時我心中暗喜,一碟滿滿的麵包叫人十分興奮呢。在Waitress放下碟子之際, 她亦很細心地為我介紹每一款麵包和配上的 Homemade Peach Jam。從這盤麵包的名字, 我猜想麵包是在隔壁的 Po's Atelier 做出來的, 所以應該頗新鮮和有心思的!

Po's Breakfast 包括一件 Danish, Oolong tea toast, Butter toast, Sourdough bead 和 Mini Baguette-

Danish牛油香滿溢, 拿起來也沾得滿手油光; 吃起來十分酥化, 絕對是很不錯的 Danish


Oolong tea toast 聽起來十分新奇, 所以令我十分有期望; 可是, 這片toast沒有想像中般軟熟, 甚至質感有點粗糙。至於烏龍茶香的部份, 雖然看到一點點的烏龍茶顆粒, 不過茶味欠奉,希望店方可以在這方面改良一點!

至於Butter toast, 雖然waitress介紹時特別強調麵包用上麵包附上的牛油造成,但我卻認為牛油味並沒有期待的濃烈。質感方面, 它是頗香脆的, 不過不失吧!

Sourdough bread 做得不錯, 帶那種自然酵母的微酸, 質感有嚼勁, 配上店方的 Homemade jam 特別討人喜歡。

至於 Mini baguette, 同樣很不錯, 有嚼勁; 配上那個peach jam 也是挺好的。

另外點的 Ice mocha ($55) 只屬不過不失- 咖啡香還好, 但不特別impressive 。雖然我不是專業的咖啡愛好者, 但喝得出只是比大型連鎖咖啡店好一點點。而且這杯咖啡索價 $55, 實在有點不值得呢!

不過值得一讚的是, waitress 服務態度十分誠懇和細心; 店方更提供 free wifi 給客人使用, 很容易令人眨眨眼便坐上整個下午


雖然這次的食物未有像其他食友說得那麼動人, 不過有機會的話我仍會give it another try, 嘗嘗店裡的 Apple tart

Enjoy到上環遊逛,來到近期很hot的"Deadend”。環境很有外國咖啡小店的意景,人少少時,非常寫意!侍應遞上摺疊的menu,介紹咸食有三文治及沙律,而甜品現只有Banana Bostock。吓…!?來意之一為baked apple tart Ga 麻!自家雪糕也沒有。我問,蘋果撻不是從隔離姊妹店做的嗎?侍應說:「不是,我地唔係同一家架!我同好多人客也一樣咁講架喇,之前看到的,無架喇,因為廚師走了,轉menu,現是過渡期。」太驚訝/失望了,開業數個月,廚師走了....我也替店方感無奈。幸好除了舒懷的環境外,引導留步的,還有另一亮點──Dirty。店方背道時興的Latte Art,創作了一杯,於凍杯 凍奶上,加espresso,一冷一熱,撞出來一杯極自然的”雙層”咖啡。奶味非常濃郁有奶香(諗起…奶蓋)。咖啡也相當出眾!有濃杰的奶,也得配上深焙的咖啡吧!配搭出來很creamy,極之好飲呢!

奶味非常濃郁有奶香(諗起…奶蓋
)。咖啡也相當出眾!有濃杰的奶,也得配上深焙的咖啡吧!配搭出來很creamy,極之好飲呢!

Other Info. : 順道過去Po's Atelier買麵包,奇怪的是,Deadend的stuffs拿著似是公司數的錢,過來買麵包,說著夠不夠買?仲有廿多元噃。睇番食評,食友有的說姊妹店/聯營。食評也兩家混合。但剛才店員又對我說,不同一家。費解…疑惑。

鄰隔還有是一伙的麵包店Po's Atelier,可以把麵包帶回去延續這回憶。

早前吃過apple tart 及panna cotta數月後再來 結果已成了"傳說中"的名物...餐牌仍是長長的一條甚有個性 店員努力的準備三文治及咖啡再喝lemon ginger soda檸檬味不算特出 薑味是到喉嚨底才能感受得到然而在那個悶熱的三月下午 仍是提神的一杯好飲料 坐了一會 便被鄰座的blueberry muffin吸引儘不餓 卻忍不了口藍莓不多 但香軟的質感搭夠是那種舒舒服服的感覺我珍惜的吃著是小小的甜點 不過充實 加油哦!

A closer look at what was inside: roasted beef, smoked bacon, cheese and tomatoes. This is really good and it is served with a tomato soup and potatoes.

As for the desserts that are offered, we tried the vanilla panna cotta with citrus salad and blood orange sorbet. The panna cotta was made with vanilla bean (as can be seen by the specks of black) so the taste was aromatic.

Lastly I had the wonderful baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream and mint leaves.
Although I'm not a fan of mint, I thought the mint leaves enhanced the dish. It made the entire experience refreshing and the salted caramel sauce was no longer as filling. The apple tart itself was crispy and warm, which eaten together with vanilla icecream was heavenly.

本來叫了個Danish Petit Poids Tim Dou,聽說是danish裡面抱著甜甜的綠豆蓉,後來店員說這個麵包要好一陣子才能出爐,在另外推薦下,改了Banana Bostock $35 (7.5/10)Pain Au Chocolat $32 (7/10)。Banana Bostock質感有點像香蕉蛋糕,但上面加了Almond Chips還有Caramel,由於配搭得宜,另整體口感更有層次,可惜是它不夠熱 (basically serves in room temperature),不然分數可以更高。Pain Au Chocolat相比下就更為普通了,基本上一個Chocolate Croissant上面加Caramel&Walnut,唯Walnut不能跟Croissant融合 (Croissant太脆了,一切Walnut就掉下來),有點各自為政,整體未能突出。

不知多久沒有這樣一邊看書一邊吃早餐了,實在寫意,希望店主趕快請一個Chef,重新把Hot Dishes和Dessert推出來吧。

難得一場來到,當然不能錯過Po's Atelier的麵包。既然是聯營,就不需要可以開新post了。它採取的依然是Open Kitchen的做法,外面可以清楚看到廚房的焗爐和麵包師傅在努力工作中。不像很多的新派麵包店,Po's Atelier的麵包外型都非常簡樸。最後選了Oolong Fig $50 (6/10)Madame Cheng $35 (6.5/10)和一包兩個的Scone $15 (9/10)

Oolong Fig其實外型不怎樣,但內容很飽滿,這樣一個麵包裡面至少應該有6-8粒無花果,每一口都一定會咬得到。雖然是這樣,但感覺是有點太多,原因無花果是甜品,先是把Oolong麵包的味道完全蓋過,再來無花果本來就是越吃越甜的食物,吃到後來有點放棄,即使我是甜品控,一個麵包甜成這樣也是有點難受。有試過避開無花果就這樣吃麵包,但沒怎麼吃到Oolong的味道。

Madame Cheng取名於其中一位Partner媽媽的名字,是她的秘制食譜喔,很溫馨呢。賣相依然樸素但也可愛,有說是用手製豆乳 (diary-free)製造的,聽起來非常健康,但以我的味蕾來評分,根本嚐不太出來豆乳味,跟白麵包沒兩樣。可取的是外皮脆而煙韌 (有點牙力才吃得起),但裡面非常軟熟,氣孔控制一流。

Scone反而非常有驚喜。本身不是Scone控,很多時候別人說超好吃的Scone我也沒甚麼感覺,也許我的就是怪標準
。不知為何,Po's Atelier的Scone就是很對我的口味,可以說是我吃過最好的。不像外面的Scone那麼硬,它是外脆內軟,有點像曲奇跟Muffin的混合體,不需要加任何jam或者cheese,還是可口。$15兩塊簡直是超級抵食!

花了差不多$200個大洋,除了Scone跟Banana Bostock之外,其實沒有什麼突破點,實在很難給個笑臉。看來這個折翼天使要等到Chef來的那一天才能重振江湖呢~

這裡是走開放式廚房的設計, 裝修是簡約路線, 典型咖啡店的感覺, 舒舒服服, 是幾寫意的. 座位是分兩種的, 室內是用碟上的, 是吃完後才埋單的. 如果在室外的話, 就是客人先行到櫃檯前付款, 店員會將食物用外賣盒奉上, 規格其實跟買外賣沒有分別, 只是在於有餐桌供客人用膳. 但室內的位置較少, 如果想在室內用餐的話, 等候時間應該會更加長. 請注意的是以下相片是包括有室內以及室外的部份, 特別在此鳴謝總管跟Min姐讓我們也拍攝他們在室內部份進食的食用, 大家也正好作個比較.

這裡的餐牌是印在一張紙上, 是日來到, 剛好撞正轉餐牌的日子, 不少之前的名物如三文治是不再供應. 剛好隔離檯也是認識的朋友 (對, 這裡真的是城中超熱點), 就詢問一下她們, 發覺Steak and Eggs的火候只是一般, 但Poached Eggs & Ham是對辦的, 那就來一客吧. 當然, 也不能忘記點選一客蘋果撻. 不點選太多食物了, 把火力集中在最吸引的吧.

Chocolat Chaud $45: 9分, 是日要分開兩輪落單, 首先是點選飲品, 稍後才能夠再點選食物. 既然熱朱古力是這裡的名物, 那當然要來一客. 份量是不少的, 是熱朱古力在底, 忌廉在面的賣相. 忌廉份量剛好, 不會太多. 當然, 主角是熱朱古力, 味道實在是相當的濃郁, 喝落口是啖啖朱古力味, 那感覺就像在吃一口香濃的朱古力一樣, 不算太甜, 但亦不會太苦澀. 質感方面, 是不會太杰的, 喝完也不會覺得糊口. 怪不得總管已經是第四次喝這杯熱朱古力, 是令人著迷的.

除非你討厭朱古力!

Ice Mocha $55: 6分, 天氣開始熱, 人總想來杯凍飲, 最後我就選擇了Ice Mocha,,心想既然熱朱古力是這裡的名物, 那Iced Mocha應該怎也會是水準之作. 但似乎這杯飲品是有點失去了平衡, 咖啡的味道不算太香濃, 而朱古力的味道亦當然不能跟熱朱古力去相比. 也許冰塊下得比較多, 味道實在是偏淡. 一杯$55, 實在是相當之貴的價位, 也未能得到我們的歡心.

Poached Eggs & Ham $80: 9分, 轉了新餐牌, 就連早餐的項目也能夠享用. 說的就是Poached Eggs & Ham, 相當豐富的陣容, 包括有水煮蛋, 芝蔴菜, 火腿, 紅椒粒等等, 再配上一塊多士. 水煮蛋是水準之作, 呈半生熟的狀態, 切開少許, 流心度是令人滿意的, 把蛋汁撈在火腿上同吃, 自是更加之惹味. 另外, 特別加入了芝蔴菜, 帶點辣勁, 是豐富了味道的. 至於多士, 是夠脆身的, 亦不會交行貨. 這客Poached Eggs & Ham, 有水準!

Baked Apple Tart with House Made Vanilla Ice Cream $70: 10分, 很久沒有給予一道菜色10分, 但這客蘋果撻, 沒有辦法, 唯有奉上一個滿分來表達我的支持. 其實蘋果撻常常吃, 但這裡的就能夠在平凡的甜品中帶給客人新的感覺. 賣相精緻, 剛剛焗起的, 自然是熱辣辣, 撻皮是相當的香脆, 蘋果就是相當的香甜, 完全沒有半點酸的感覺. 一向很怕吃一些酸的蘋果甜品, 這裡的, 就恰如其分. 特別之處是在旁邊加入了海鹽焦糖醬, 帶點海鹽的鹹香, 但也有焦糖的甜美, 馬上把這個蘋果撻提升到另一個層次. 當然, 不少得的在面頭的那雲尼拿雪糕, 自家製的, 大大球, 相當的香滑, 跟蘋果撻做到一冷一熱的效果. 單單是這個蘋果撻, 已經令到我們把之前的久等拋諸腦後了.

或許這裡的等候時間實在太長, 或者這裡的座位實在太少, 但當享受完蘋果撻, 水煮蛋以及熱朱古力之後, 只會令人覺得, 那個等候是值得的. 服務方面, 縱使店員相當忙碌, 但他們的態度仍然是相當親切, 也細心的去解釋入座的安排以及利弊, 不能挑剔太多了. 價位方面, 每人$125, 不算便宜, 但能夠吃到如此高水準的食物, 還是值回票價的.

吃完甜美的蘋果批, 也是時候讓出座位給還在排隊的客人了. 故事到此還未完結,因為維妮還一早在另外一家店子霸好檯讓我們五人在那邊掃甜品. 對, 人生實在有太多難以預計的事情, 也想不到這天的散心之行會變成一連兩場的甜聚. 希望以這段歌詞, 來為妹妹, 也為文迪打打氣:
