Went to Chesa for their set lunch the other day. Indeed, I have heard about this Swiss restaurant previously, but I was never really eager to give it try since the restaurant is pretty expensive. There are three courses for their set lunch. For the appetiser, I went for the mushroom soup. It had a strong mushroom aroma and it was really creamy and tasty. For the main, I chose the Swiss pork sausage with onion sauce. The sausage is baked to perfection as it is very crispy and the sides are also pretty decent. The best part of the set would be the dessert. I chose the chocolate Swiss roll with dark chocolate sorbet out of the five options. The Swiss role was average but the sorbet was one of the best sorbet I have ever had!

主菜同朋友不約而同地叫左chefs recommendation - rack of lamb. 自己㨂左七成熟,佢主要焗既,口感同味道都不錯,但係如果兩邊煎一煎可能會更香口。(純粹以一般人角度諗,其實自己唔太熟煮餸😝)


反而主菜旁既Gratinated potato 伴菜好吸引到我地😎個薯仔係切細,加左牛油/芝士去焗,有少少似食緊酥皮咁,香口,小小地剛剛好又無肥膩感。食完個main大概7成飽,初初重驚會餓添...

在瑞樵閣午餐,人稱【小屋】,喜歡半島的香草包很香,牛油又不油膩;各人點了三文魚前菜,我則點了粟米忌廉湯;我是一向不飲粟米忌廉湯的,既然到此地方,一嚐此間製法有何不可!果然非同凡响!濃郁的粟米味加上忌廉,有一些火腿在內,味道截然不同,而且碗 (杯) 不細,足以我慢慢享用。試了對座的三文魚,雖然薄得透明,但味道也很濃郁,果然不應厚切,上面蔬菜新鮮得似剛採摘似的!鄰座說牛仔脷很滑。我選了羊架,嫩滑新鮮,多汁;初看以為份量太少,吃完整碟後發覺已經飽了。再上一個忘記是什麼雪笆,雪笆我也是吃了半島的之後才喜愛上,上面的脆片,似甜又鹹,有質感,不知道是什麼!不過在旁的伴碟郤是很認真的,每一匙的味道都很豐富,再來送上了薑餅和流心朱古力,高質素甜品!!!

Yet, the quietness of the restaurant—with other guests almost murmuring—made for an ambiance less cozy than it was dreary. Waiting staff looked emotionless, too. Without folk music playing in the background, with dim, red lights and long candles, we might as well be in a vampire movie.

Looking around, one would see mostly diners born before the 70s sitting comfortably and acting like return customers, although the early bird dinner at $330 per head has no doubt managed to attract younger couples looking to experience fine dining on a special occasion, making sure to take photographs of themselves and their newly acquired, boxed Chanel accessories carefully juxtaposed with Chesa's background setting.

Ask anyone in Hong Kong about Swiss fine dining, and chances are you will be met with a blank stare. I didn't seem to leave Chesa feeling much more informed, either. While Chesa's menu bears witness to many regional influences and, like traditional Swiss food, potatoes, bread, root vegetables and cheese seem ubiquitous, for those who are really not interested in rösti or Swiss sausage, the selection takes care of that. You can have perfectly region-neutral dishes such as rack of lamb, pan-fried duck liver, or even roasted spring chicken (with potatoes, or root vegetables, or cheese, or some other interesting flavor combination). Fish and shellfish are also cooked more or less in a typical "Western" fashion. In fact, at the end of our meal, we found out that dishes that overlapped with a meal at a friend's wedding three months ago (at the Peninsula) tasted exactly the same. Was it because Chef Trento's responsible for all Peninsula made dishes that he didn't care enough to recreate them more frequently, or is Chesa now officially a general Western restaurant with only fondue and raclette to distinguish it from others?

Authenticity aside, I thought the food was good overall, if a little over-priced depending on what you are looking for. A filling meal without drinks came down to roughly $1900 for us. Although Chesa's ski shelter setting created by revamped, white-washed walls is rather special for Hong Kong, I may still prefer to have more distinguishably Swiss cuisine, which has always been more down-to-earth in my memory, in a less pretentious and contrived setting.

Initially did not plan to get fondue because I knew it would turn an otherwise fine dinner into a heavy one and I did not want that on that evening. And it did turn out to be way too much for two people to share. While the cheese (mostly emmentele and gruyère) did smell and taste flavorful and rich initially, it's not appropriate to consume a third of a pot of this unless you've been skiing the past eight hours. Verdict: bubbling cheese can't go wrong, but make sure you order this only if you're a party of four or more.

好有古典的氣色,好像進入火車卡裏一樣,餐廳極有氣氛。set lunch$385一位,這樣格調配這個收費算是十分合理。至於食物的質素,就一般了,我試吃的是sliced chicken with mushroom in the light cream sources,雞肉不算滑,汁太多,把雞肉浸住了,不太好味。甜品吃了班蘭蛋糕,斑蘭味道不夠。最欣賞是咖啡,選了mocha,咖啡很香,整餐飯最喜歡。

Chesa, a Swiss restaurant in Peninsula Hotel offers a special early bird dinner. HKD320 for 2 courses and HKD440 for 3 courses. Chesa, a Swiss restaurant in Peninsula Hotel offers a special early bird dinner. HKD320 for 2 courses and HKD440 for 3 courses. That certainly draw our attention to give it a try as we heard of this high end restaurent before but never really eager to try due to its relatively high charging price.

Restaurant is located at 1st floor of Peninsula Hotel. The decoration is definitley European style with candle light setting that in a way quite romantic. Early bird dinner theme is based on the Canton Fribourg region of western Switzerland.

The salard and snail appetizer are both quite refreshing. I believe the salad is a better choice as it has a unique taste of Swiss Gruyere cheese mixed with potato, bacon, pork sauage and herbs. The snail in mushroom is a bit ordinary in my opinion.

For the main dish, we both picked the beef mignon in onion sauce. The beef is quite tendered with good flavor but also a bit ordinary. It didnt leave us any overwhelming impression. It is good but not spectacular.

For dessert, the meringue with raspberry, raspberry sorbet and cream. It is really good. The best among the 3 courses. The presentation is wonderfull with right amount of sweetness and sourness. It is very refreshing and marks a wonderfull ending towards the meal. (Bread, Coffee / tea and peti four is included)

Overall, we thought the experience is quite pleasant. With decent food quality and exceptional atmosphere. I would prefer the service to be better by introducing the theme of courses as there arent really many Swiss restaurants in HK and most of the ordinary customer will not be familiar with it. There is frankly speaking lack of such attribute. This is also part of the separation between a really high end fine dinning vs above average restaurant.

Still for the early bird deal, I would recommend to give it a try.
