不說不知這裡的大廚正是 Chocolate Rain 設計師的另一半,而且更曾任廚於米芝蓮3星餐廳 The Fat Duck,來頭可不少,而設計的菜式也甚有創意

先是清新的開始 (Tomato Tomato Tomato Tomato Tomato),沙律有車厘茄、青瓜、粟米片、啫喱等,色彩豐富,給人清怡輕盈的感覺,各食材拼湊在一起,富層次感。

同樣以瓶子盛著的小秘「蜜」粉色配搭討好,很可愛的糖果瓶,加了青檸味的泡沫,甜酸得宜。

邊吃邊玩,原來是很忙碌的,哈哈,份量未必是你心中那樣,因為手作才是今晚的主角呢。

原來 Chocolate Rain 已經 15 週年,我已經報名參加了 Party,期待中...

今天晚上的小手作共有兩款,先由布袋填色開始。白色的布袋早已印有Chocolate Rain人物的圖案,小瞳要做的,就是發揮創意,加上自己的喜好,拿著這裡安排好的顏色筆,把白色的布袋填得漂漂亮亮。

這過程其實也是一個好好的教學機會,學校教的「調色」只是皮毛甚至是紙上談兵,不一定有示範給幼稚園學生觀看。在這裡,有真的水彩,可以把理論實踐,親身示範。由於顏料風乾需時,接下來我們就邊塗邊吃邊等了。

最後一款甜品是小秘「蜜」,小小的玻璃瓶透出繽紛的色彩,讓人十分好奇裡面到底是甚麼甜品。原來那些是蛋白糖霜,甜中帶酸,很像小時候常吃的花占餅,但來得更輕盈,沒想到能在這裡找到兒時小回憶。

值得一提的是,小朋友在等待食物的時候如果太悶,可以向店員取一張Chocolate Rain填色紙,再用木顏色筆填色。小瞳今晚就拿了一張來填色,原來Fatina和Chefo換上Little Twin Stars的粉紅色和粉藍色頭髮也很可愛呢。

復活蛋拿回家後一天,顏料全乾,小瞳終於可以拿上手把玩。創意小瞳把Fatina的頭髮染成粉紅,左邊綠色的是一朵花,右邊紅色的是一條辮子,是不是很有Little Twin Stars的影子?相對大人,我覺得小孩子來這裡更合適,玩得更開心。這裡除了可自己動手做勞作,還有漂亮好吃的食物。完結之後還可在PMQ逛逛,親子一同感受文化氣息,口述不如身教,快點和你的小朋友一起找Fatina & Chefo玩玩吧~

此時我的製成品也完成了,跟朋友一起聊天,吃飯,做做手工藝,感覺真的彷彿回到兒時,令人重拾童真。

期間又聽到創作人跟客人講述這餐廳剛開業的辛酸,創作之路真的不好走,在此祝福她的品牌愈做愈強。

第一道的菜式是清新的開始,英文名稱為 Tomato Tomato Tomato Tomato Tomato,心想蕃茄必定是主角。

豈料車厘茄只屬其中一員而已,還有青瓜、生菜、花生、粟米片、啫喱和醬汁等,勾出清爽與怡人的味兒,尤以花生和粟米的甜香最為突出,口感亦同時集結脆、軟、腍、爽和綿密於一身,它的功能就是要給我們一個清新的開始。

驚喜之作 (Mini Savory Surprise) 端出來時,蓋子緊蔽,從外觀察看,僅是一個圓球狀。

將蓋子打開,依然令人摸不著頭腦,唯有逐一往裡面翻開及嘗試。面層白色的是一塊脆片,裡頭是一團泡沫,我用脆片沾上泡沫來品嚐,質感輕柔的泡沫帶有點點的芝士香氣,還放入烘過的麵包粒,而最底層綠色的該是由菠菜打成的醬汁。整體的味道溫和,予人猜不透的驚喜!

到了這個階段,我的作品逐漸完工,當然要把握時機亮相。

不過這道大蝦共和國 (Shrimpsland) 的賣相也相當有趣,特別是最上層如威化的脆片,碗內盡是是粉紅、淺黃的粉色調子,女生一定對它產生好感。翻開如蝦片的粉紅薄脆,這趟我看到了蝦仁和薯仔的實物,這次一定能對上味道。蝦仁爽嫩和薯香突出的德國薯仔,配上醬汁後,味道不錯。至於輕脆帶香氣的威化,和其他意法香草、日本麵豉與韓國泡菜,則只可以盡量感受已而。不過這道大蝦共和國無疑是我當晚最喜歡的菜式。

玻璃罌就是法式分子焦糖燉蛋雪糕 (Fatina & Chefo Jar),入口香軟、滑溜、輕甜與多層次的香氣,感覺不錯。原來是採用了傳統的法式焦糖燉蛋為藍本,再加入雲呢嗱籽、特製的拖肥和焦糖「脆趣」,再添上自家製的焦糖雪糕,便成了這道討好的招牌甜品了。

其他兩件出品也完成了,剛好用來裝飾這道小秘「蜜」(Mini Sweet Surprise)。

小秘「蜜」賣相也是非常可愛,小小的玻璃瓶透出繽紛的色彩,讓人懷著開心的情緒。味道不太甜,鬆軟的泡沫帶有青檸的青酸味兒,非常醒神,至合餐後蠢蠢欲睡的狀態。泡沫上的小糖果,質感粉粉的,而且入口即溶,跟小時候嚐的太空糖很相似。

復活節假期將到,帶同小朋友來作參加工作坊,的確是不錯的親自活動,不過記得網上提前預約!

Chocolate Rain~對於本地做開手作仔的人來說這名字/品牌應該不太陌生吧! 雖然知道有這食店一段時間, 但對於手作人突然CROSSOVER做食肆, 我真的有一點保留! 最近因買了一本雜誌見其宣傳單張, 發現該店有WORKSHOP, 而且COURSE已包了一個甜品, 如果再加$100就可以享用其三道菜。本著就算食物真的一般, 但只少可以完成自己想整的作品, 那就決定參加了!第一道菜~頭盤他們教我們要混合一齊來食, 這樣才會食到不同的層次感, 否則單一食會太單調, 而且也浪費了廚師的心思。頭盤裡有牛油果, 有蝦, 有NUTS, 有蕃茄, 還有脆脆, 作為頭盤還可以、蠻清新的。第二道菜~喇沙蝦的東東汁都幾滑身, 味道還可以; 蝦是爽口, 很可惜無蝦味食完第二道菜後就開始埋首整手工了。在製作的途中, 他們送上了一個甜點~朱古力入面是凍的Raspberry雪糕/mousse, 而朱古力上的綿花糖是用火槍炙過的, 食入口非常得意~一冷一熱, 但要快食, 不要掛住影相就忘了食, 這是很危險的! 因為朱古力會溶掉喔!最後當然還食了他們第三道菜~鎮店甜品-Fatina & Chefo Jar

很creamy同滑, 再加了一些脆脆, 增加了整個甜品的層次, 還不錯!

Other Info. : 老實說, 如果你喜歡這品牌, 用這個價錢能夠上workshop同食simple dinner是很抵的, 因為我要整的東西在她那裡買現成都差不多要這價錢, 但現在用這個價錢還可以有真人親自授教並且有得食,真的是又食又拎呢XD。然而若果你為了食而來, 我認為甜品較為好一點! 主菜就真的見仁見智了! 因本人不愛食法國菜或分子料理, 所以很難講合不合水準! 只能按自己的口味作評價而已。

第二道菜式是放在一個白色球形的器皿內, 讓我幻想成一顆珍貴的珍珠, 貴重的很。 底部是以蔬菜 打成蓉, 頂層插了一片鹹香的脆片 和灑了數粒脆口的餅粒, 還加入分子製作元素, 口感和味道多變兼新穎, 配搭一流, 這顆珍珠的確存有大廚的心血。

Mango Sunshine ,兩片芒果糖衣,中間的分子甜品,外形好似水煮蛋,口感半溶的雪糕,是乳酪味的,原以為粉紅色的是馬卡龍,原來的蛋糕,味道普通。

除了甜品,也有是日晚餐,價格偏貴,是因為特色是分子料理吧,整體環境好得,食物因為係分子料理比較特別,味道一般。

第一次黎PMQ時,本身當然係睇熊貓,之後行其他舖時,發現呢間舖好得意,當時已經想試,不過當日full晒,於是上網book兩星期後黎試tea,當日15:30到,問老闆娘可否提早入坐,佢話歡迎,而且話可以落到order,飲住野先,到16:00後廚房就會開始整甜品!Set係甜品另包一杯飲品(有香檳揀),叫咗Peach tea 同蜜糖綠茶,另叫咗兩款份子甜品,桃茶面有薄薄一層類似奶既表面,帶出桃既香味,蜜糖綠茶就當然係隻杯最吸引啦!至於兩款甜品,對我黎講,又係裝飾為主,當然食物本身老闆娘話係全部由有機的,健康為主,亦係主打之一!

Since my last visit to PMQ a few weeks back, I went back to have afternoon tea at Fatina & Chefo, EAT & PLAY by Chocolate Rain created by local designer Prudence Mak over the weekend. The brand Chocolate Rain offers handcrafted pieces of accessories and decorations inspired by a cute doll named Fatina who lives in a fantasy world called Mushroom Land with her good friend Chefo. Daily special desserts, savories and snacks are served while customers can enjoy eating and playing with Fatina and Chefo.
I made reservations beforehand which is a must-have on the weekends as the place was packed with a lot of food traffic passing through as the shop was really a cafe and store combined. As I walked in, I saw tables placed on both sides of the main walkway in the first half of the shop which made up the cafe portion. The decor was really charming and Disneyland-like with umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and life-size dolls surrounding you while you eat. You really do get a sense of being transported into the fantasy land of Mushroom Land while dining in this cafe.

Even the tables and utensils were immensely cute with colorful patchwork place mats and water glasses with drawings of Fatina and her friends on it. This whole setup reminds me of tea time in kindergarten. The afternoon tea menu had 3 dessert offerings on the day that I went - the Fatina Chefo Jar, Strawberry Bubble Bath and a special panda theme dessert created for the 1600 pandas currently on display at PMQ. Desserts cost $68 a la carte and $99 with a drink.

Ice Honey Pear Tea (3.5/5) - you have a choice of bubbly, wine, coffee and tea for drinks and I went for the Ice Honey Pear Tea as it was so hot outside. The drink was refreshing to drink as it was not too sweet but I couldn't taste any pear flavor in it.

Fatina Chefo Jar (4.5/5) - the Fatina Chefo Jar is their signature dessert which arrived in a adorable jar with Fatina's head as a cover! It's a molecular creme brulee dessert with vanilla foam and molecular ice cream sprinkled with caramel and toffee crunches on top. To eat, I removed Fatina's head and dug right down to the bottom to get a bit of everything. The whole dessert was light and fluffy to eat as the vanilla foam was airy while the caramel ice cream was rich and smooth. I also loved the contrasting textures and temperatures of the ingredients which all came together perfectly.

Pandina Sweet with Yogurt Sorbet and Bamboo Sponge (2/5) - my friend got the special panda dessert which ended up being quite a disappointment. First off, the portion was so tiny - it wasn't really worth it for $68 as you can probably finish it in 3 scoops. Second, the flavors were not spectacular at all. There were 4 blobs of yogurt and coconut sorbet surrounded by cream with a drawing of a panda on the plate. The sorbet was alright but the cream was just cream and didn't go well with the other ingredients. I thought the brown round pieces for the eyes and nose would be chocolate but it was just sponge cake which had no flavor. The entire dessert just didn't gel together and I would not recommend getting this.

Verdict - to be honest, I don't think people come to these kind of themed cafes for food but rather for the experience, and good food is just a welcomed bonus on the side. On that point, I think that this cafe do strive to deliver creative and innovative food and the Fatina Chefo Jar is a great example of that. The decor is probably the most appealing aspect of this cafe and ideal for a kid's birthday party for example. Fatina & Chefo, EAT & PLAY is also perfect for those who want to escape from reality into Mushroom Land for a few hours!

I had wanted to return when there was less people and most notably the Chocolate Rain shop. So on a Friday afternoon, I came.

Chocolate Rain is a brand from perhaps one of the most popular Hong Kong designers around. Prudence Mak, famous for the hand crafted patchwork dolls, Fatina and friends, she used to have a shop on Peel Street that sold their goods along with DIY workshops for fans of the artist to make their own patchwork creations using recycled materials. But even though her work has been showcased in various locations, featured on TV as a young designer and has a huge following including Stella McCartney, her shop closed. But she returns with a whole new flagship store in the newly renovated PMQ building...the new site for creativity and design.

And I am one of these fans.

The cafe is located inside their Chocolate Rain shop which they share with other Hong Kong artists. Decked out with little tables and stools, all decorated in patchwork cushions and place mats and a giant mushroom, it felt like I was a little girl again, about to have playtime afternoon tea with my dolls.

I was greeted by Prudence Mak herself, who welcomed me to sit anywhere I pleased. She suggested I try their Fatina and Chefo cup and she told me a good bubbly alcohol drink they are promoting is apple flavor. So I ordered this and an ice peach tea. She told me it may take a while to make as it uses molecular gastronomy to and everything is made from scratch. Nothing is premade, she said. And ingredients change whenever creativity arises. But she said to feel free to take photos of all the dolls. And there were so many!

Flipping through the menu, it was sweetly designed with little drawings of the characters. But since it was still a soft opening, many items on the menu was still coming soon. Though I did spot a DIY item that was coming soon that peaked my interest for a future return trip along with a tea set for two.

The ice peach tea came first and it was presented in a cute mug. The tea wasn't very sweet but it was rich in peach flavor. It was also frothy. I wonder if fresh peach juice was used?

A good half hour later, my Fatina and Chefo cup came. Cuteness overload! Prudence told everyone at the cafe who all ordered the same thing to grab your spoon, dig right to the bottom and take a big spoonful for the ultimate happiness and joy. And so after plucking off the head, I did just that. What was inside was a soft vanilla mousse, crumbly chocolate crumbs and a cold scoop of coffee ice cream. It wasn't overly sweet. It felt like eating soft, fluffy clouds.

It's an adorable place. Food was ok, though super slow so if you plan a quick bite and go, this is not it. It's for you to relax and spend some time finding your inner child. Prices not expensive. I would return to try other items when it fully opens or bring girl friends along to tea.

They have a special where you can purchase a mug and get a coffee for free. You can even purchase the Fatina cup after you finish your dessert.
