After an extremely busy morning and had no lunch till 3pm...I was starving, thinking to grasp some food in Central, something light because would have thanksgiving dinner with family in hours....walked and walked, fully seated in Landmark, then came over to IFC...Okay, Isola, came here for dinner with big group of friends before, nice environment with fasinating harbour view.Not much feeling on the food though.There was a private party setting on the first floor, and only upper floor available..

Okay, Isola, came here for dinner with big group of friends before, nice environment with fasinating harbour view.Not much feeling on the food though.

There was a private party setting on the first floor, and only upper floor available...this was my first time, little white bar with comfrotable sofa seating area. Quite spacious and not many people, only 2 small groups of having business talk, a sweet couple having a huge pizza, then it's ME..

2 bar menus, one for drinks and one for bar snacks....OMG, there is nothing hot except that huge pizza....others are all cold cut and dessert, felt a bit down at that moment because I was so hungry and would love to have something hot like pasta or chicken wings...


Anyway, I ordered the cheese plate..4 types of cheese served nicely, with honey for the biscuits. I'm a cheese lover so it does satisfy me. Non-alcolic in the afternoon and I had the lychee drink, not bad...


I heard the couple sitting to me said the pizza is very good, can try if you have a group of people

Sat there for over an hour to enjoy the cheese and beautiful view, seeing people...very nice.

Décor: Contemporary white with lots of floor to ceiling glasses introducing natural light and offering an excellent view of the harbor, in particular, if you dine “al fresco”.

Ambiance: very busy and lively as usual

Sitting: reasonably spacious for some business discussions

Service: well trained and efficient... courteous? Not necessarily… just well trained.

Wine list: did not look at it over lunch…. Last time I dine there, I remember they have a good wine list of Italian wines.

Food: The antipasti buffet is excellent and offers a wide variety of choices. The sword fish was nice and moist, which is a delightful change from the traditional dry and tough servings. The dessert buffet could include a couple more choices of cakes. Food quality is good while the portions are reasonable.

Cost: $900 for three for lunch… inclusive of service charge, mineral water and coffee.

Value for Money? … 7.5/10

General: I have been there many times and Isola is habitually good for business luncheons.

After having this as a first course, I drank a lot of water throughout the whole meal. Came here for a business dinner, and because it was a business dinner, it was a 4-course set menu. I had

Grilled chicken breast, 唔錯很 tender. 其他還有 Pork Loin, Penne & handmade pasta. We've gone to Isola a few times - we loved it when it first opened, but it seems to be going down hill...

Appetizers - arugula salad, prosciutto with cantaloupe

Salad was wilted, and tasteless - crazy! with arugula, it's spicy and sharp by nature, so when the salad comes tasteless, it makes one wonder, how did they manage to make arugula loose its' pleasantly sharp taste?
The prosciutto was ok - we've had much better, and the cantaloupe was awful...it was crumbly in texture (almost like it had been frozen before and de-frosted).

Main: Gnocchi - mushrooms cheese, asparagus, and pizza - caprese - cherry tomatoes, basil and cheese

Gnocchi - tasted like instant microwave - hard lumps of potato balls, with overcooked mushy asparagus and too much salt!
The pizza was ok - crust was nice and thin, but unfortunately, the cherry tomatoes lacked cherry taste, and for basil...it was hardly discernible...where those tiny green flecks basil?? All we tasted on the pizza was metal-ly tomato sauce and salt...

The service is and has consistently been unfriendly, somewhat high-browed, and at times, even comes across as "what do you want?!?"

Ah, too bad. It seems that the Hong Kong snobbish attitude has rubbed off on the service staff... what ever happened to service with a smile?

未吃早餐的我倆,選擇了兩份set lunch。頭盤有兩款湯及自助頭盤沙律吧可供選擇,主菜有七款之多,最後還有甜品自助餐及餐茶。

1. Assorted Bread - 首先是意大利餐廳傳統,端來一藍子麵包,4款麵包,每款3片,由軟身至硬身,足有一打,雖然我們只有二人,但數目之多,毫不吝嗇,果真少見。最重要是應脆得脆,應軟得軟,有微暖,感覺新鮮。可惜的是服務稍遜,要自己問侍應才送上橄欖油及黑醋,但用料上乘,橄欖油確實很香。

2. Antipasti e insalate al banco Selection of appetizers and salads from the buffet - 在buffet和餐湯之間,我倆都選了這款buffet頭盤,事關這是非常抵吃,而且不限次數。餐牌最特別之處在於最後一句印有buffet is not for sharing, & set lunch main course not for sharing and takeaway,餐廳確保客人不會取巧而採取的保護措施。

近餐廳入口有長長的吧枱,放滿了各式各樣的頭盤及沙律,雖然短短嘅一個午飯時間,但廚子亦不時推出新款菜式,Parma ham w/ melon、各式cold-cut、意大利臘腸、甚至有幾款芝士供應,一應俱全,應有盡有,而且揀選的款式都頗迎合本地人口味 ; 最吸引我算是薯仔沙律,又粉又香,做得比其他地方出色。

3. Fettucine fresche al ragu di carne alla Bolognese Home made fettucine with tomato meat ragout Bolognese style - 主菜都有七款之多,意大利粉及飯有四款,以及魚、雞、羊各一款。這款肉醬意粉,味道調較不太酸,恰到好處,溫度亦非常熱,但可以即時入口,意粉煙韌有彈性,但牛肉碎略為鞋口,處理得不夠嫰滑,份量十足,侍應在上枱後亦提供鮮磨黑椒及即刨芝士,可以為這道菜增添味道。

4. Pollo arrosto con patate e verdure Roasted half spring chicken with roasted potato and sauteed vegetables - 燒春雞不是甚麼新穎菜式,但不是所有地方都處理得好,但這裡確可以提供一個最佳例子。一開刀,感覺雞皮已經是脆脆的,入面嘅熱力即時隨著煙湧出來,有半隻春雞的份量,份量是非常滿足,肉質亦非常鮮嫰,能保持一定的濕潤度,雞肉亦白雪雪,新鮮非常 ; 加上應該預先用上香草醃製,再加上即磨的黑椒 (這裡的黑椒的味道特別香氣撲,完全可以帶出雞肉的味道。配菜亦做得同樣出色,有鮮嫰的青豆及荷蘭豆,薯仔切成粒狀,炸過後再灑上少許鹽,這裡的薯仔特別粉,可惜只有七至八粒的份量,可以有多些相信會更滿足。

5. Dolci Dessert buffet - 甜品區亦有一張長枱,就位處頭盤沙律吧隔鄰,大致上都是應有盡有,我記得的有:

(i) Tiramisu - 非常傳統的製法,底層的麵包是浸滿Rum冧酒,味道特別芳香濃郁 ;

(ii) Apple Crumble - 上層的餅皮非常脆但太厚太硬,蘋果肉不會煮得太久而過淋過酸,反而可保時一定咬口及甜味。

(iii) Bread Pudding - 未將入面的空氣完全除去便放進焗爐似的,導致布甸裡面有氣孔,有礙賣相之餘,更因煮得太久,質地變得過老,鞋口。

(iv) Creme Brulee - 雖有表層充滿糖槳,但好像沒有燒過似的,又或是火力不夠,焦糖沒有被燒焦,以致不能凝固,沒有脆皮的效果,亦不夠香味了。

(v) Pudding - 吃到這裡終於開始漸入佳境,質地很滑且香,稀杰度適中。

(vi) 檸檬蛋白撻 - 用上檸檬味,中和甜度,不致太膩,蛋白打得又挺又鬆,似一淡空氣,口感特別。

(vii) Cream Buff - 將栗子打入忌廉中,都有中和甜度的效果,麵包鬆軟,一淡一口,可以留肚吃其餘的甜品

(viii) 芒果酥皮撻 - 酥皮底有鬆有脆,中間夾著吉士,上面再舖滿幾塊成熟香甜的芒果,吃到這裡,以覺不枉此行。

(ix) 各款蛋糕 - 全部都是在完整一個餅切出來的,比較其他大部份餐廳都只提供一口裝的蛋糕,這裡確實毫爽。

(x) 生果片 - 最後,有幾款生果片,都是西瓜、蜜瓜、皺皮瓜,再加上雜果,食物就吃到這裡完結。

6. Caffe o te Coffee or tea - 咖啡保持意大利的風格 -- 咖啡味極濃,餐廳不提供忌廉,反換上鮮奶,不夠脂肪那般香滑 ; 熱檸檬茶不甚突出,只是普通貨式,而且負責倒茶的侍應在放低茶壺的時候頗粗魯的,不小心地把茶倒了出來。

Comments: (4/5) 人均消費$320。這裡週末的semi-buffet lunch,確實抵吃,頭盤及甜品都是自助形式,份量一定可以滿足大部份人,主菜選擇亦頗多,應該至少有一款可適合,而且還有無敵大海景,只是個別侍應的服務態度欠積極,整體感覺良好,下次真的要找機會品嘗這裡的晚膳及醉人的維港夜景。

同家人來到IFC的Isola試個sunday brunch,因為我姑姐試過之後話好好食。之前試過晚飯,環境唔錯,氣氛好好,但食物一般,只係個pizza令我比較喜歡。今次lunch 來到,感覺非常舒服,可能因為當日天氣很好,光線充足,大大的玻璃窗,對着維港吃午飯實在很不錯。頭盤可選 buffet 或湯,我當然選擇了buffet!Hahaha.... Buffet 有好多人,其實都有D驚,但排到我開始夾野食,見到D食物有好多,重好新鮮添呀!D野食好好味,食到超飽,都唔知點食個主菜啦!等左一陣,之前叫左個主菜到啦!好彩一D都唔大碟,仲驚要打包添!Hee hee...抖一抖,叫左杯咖啡,就出去再戰江湖,挑戰dessert buffet!又係有好多選擇咖!嘩!仲有我最愛的bread pudding,雖然到最後味道一般。但總括感覺不錯,我相信都會再去既!

之前試過晚飯,環境唔錯,氣氛好好,但食物一般,只係個pizza令我比較喜歡。
今次lunch 來到,感覺非常舒服,可能因為當日天氣很好,光線充足,大大的玻璃窗,對着維港吃午飯實在很不錯。
頭盤可選 buffet 或湯,我當然選擇了buffet!Hahaha.... Buffet 有好多人,其實都有D驚,但排到我開始夾野食,見到D食物有好多,重好新鮮添呀!D野食好好味,食到超飽,都唔知點食個主菜啦!
等左一陣,之前叫左個主菜到啦!好彩一D都唔大碟,仲驚要打包添!Hee hee...
抖一抖,叫左杯咖啡,就出去再戰江湖,挑戰dessert buffet!又係有好多選擇咖!嘩!仲有我最愛的bread pudding,雖然到最後味道一般。
但總括感覺不錯,我相信都會再去既!

I believe in the exploration of culture through food but to truly do that, I think it requires quite a bit of traveling as well because it is the local settings and people that are the best teachers to guide you through the journey. Italian cuisine is one my favorites and my belief is that many Italian dishes are very hearty, homely, rich in flavors and best enjoyed at home or over casual settings. Italian fine dining is not really my thing for some reasons but many upscale Italian restaurants are opening in town recently. I guess it is just me and the strange belief of mine then.
During the weekend ISOLA offers a special Weekend Lunch Menu which included an option of Antipasti e insalate al banco (selection of appetizers and salads from the buffet). The selection was decent with plenty of greens, seafood and meats. My favorite was of course the couscous, couscous, couscous, couscous and more couscous!
For main, my cousin ordered the Tagliolini freschi alla pescatora (home made tagliolini with mixed seafood and cherry tomato sauce). He said it was al dente but flavor was a bit weak. Should have grabbed some from him to try myself!
I did not feel like pasta so instead ordered the Filetto di sofliola alla Riminese (fillet of sole with aromatic bread crumbs and vegetables). The fish was fresh, texture was tender with thin batter but the flavor was overly salty.
For dessert, it was buffet style again. The selection was fair but it was the view overlooking the harbor from the dessert section that impressed me most.
Among the dessert selection, it was the cute mini meringue tarts that made me smile. Although they were too sweet for my taste buds, they were perfect to end the meal with on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Dislikes:
* Filetto di sofliola alla Riminese (fillet of sole with aromatic bread crumbs and vegetables) - flavor too rich, too salty
* Service was a bit slow, perhaps it was due to peak brunch hours
Avg Spending: HKD 200 - 300 per person

I have been to Isola many times and I will say the highlight is sitting on their terrace and looking at the view of Kowloon. The design of the restaurant is nice very modern with clean lines but this is all they really have going for them. OK Lets move on to the celebratory luncheon. First off we had to flag down the waiters to get their attention and then on closer inspection all of them had different ways of wearing their uniforms, some had bow ties on others had ties, some had heavy jewelry (a BIG no no in restaurants) one even had his shirt open exposing his chest? It seemed to myself and the people I was with that there was a lack of discipline and order and this was evident as the manager was not to be found. The bread basket was dry and lacking in taste so we HAD to ask the waiter to bring us some oil and vinegar as he did not think to bring it, and yet that still did not help with the stale bread. The people I was with ordered pizzas (the safe bet, but one can have far superior pizzas for less money elsewhere) and I ordered a pasta dish with truffles, pancetta and fava beans. Once upon a dawning of time for Isola this pasta was great and well executed but now everything was over cooked, lacking in taste and the truffles looked like pieces of dirt not very appetizing. All in all the best part of our lunch was not the view as we were indoors but the company and the prosecco we had which comes out of bottle and not processed by the restaurant so they do not get any props for that. In fact I don't think we even left a gratuitous tip which myself and my friends always do, as the service was pitiful. My suggestions to the restaurant don't rely on the view and decor to keep you going, a lot of TLC needs to be put back into the kitchen and food and as far as the service get your manager to do his job and get the staff into tip top shape. Not sure I will be going back anytime soon as I can spend my money more wisely elsewhere.

I have eaten at Isola many times but today was the first time I tried their appetizer and dessert buffet. It turned out, the effort to walk in and out was quite worthwhile.The set lunch menu was appetizer buffet / soup + maincourse + dessert buffet + coffee.
