Our entire team came here today for lunch. This is not my first time at Miso, but it is the first time I am having lunch here in at least two years. We were thirteen people in total and sat along a row of tables that were put together for us.

The restaurant is located in the basement of the Jardine House building. The interior was simple and dimly lit, and the polished finish of our rustic, wooden table lends it a modern touch. At the heart of the restaurant is an open sushi kitchen bar and guests can sit around the bar and watch the chefs at work.

The menu books were leather-covered and hot tea was served with what looked like authentic Japanese cast iron teapots (tetsubin). Lunch hours at any restaurant in Central are typically hectic no matter how cozy the same restaurants might be in the evening. With attendants being overstretched trying to rush from place to place, the ambiance was slightly chaotic. We often struggled to catch the attention of the waiting staff, but overall they were courteous and have worked hard to satisfy our needs.

The menu presents a traditional selection of Japanese dishes. Although most of the items are in the raw fish, sushi or grilled seafood categories, they also serve beef and pork to cater to a wider audience. For lunch, the price range is around low 200s to mid-300s, although some of the shared lunch sets (for two) cost a little more if you want greater variety and less hassle in deciding what to have.

As this place names itself Miso, I naturally went for the grilled miso-marinated cod ($215) that is otherwise also one of my favorite Japanese dishes. I ordered it separately à la carte, and paired it with a fresh salad with yuzu vinaigrette dressing ($78). Alternatively, you could have the grilled cod with sashimi (around eight slices of an assortment of three mid- to low-tier-priced raw fish), white rice and dark miso soup for a lunch set price of roughly $270.

Most of my colleagues sitting near me went for the latter choice. The white rice glittered like shiny pearls under the warm lighting and they were small, round grains with a serving size that most of my female colleagues were able to finish.

My salad came first and it was served in a very large bowl. Most of it was lettuce and frisee, but it also contained radicchio (red leaf chicory) and bright tangerine-orange cherry tomatoes that were exceptionally sweet. The leaves were fresh, and the dressing was refreshing and authentic.

The miso-marinated cod was probably grilled on a teppan or a pan. There is some skill in preparing this dish, as the cod needs to be marinated in miso and sweet mirin one to two days in advance. A slight error with the proportions of the mirin and the miso could lead the fish to become irreversibly bitter, and the miso in the marinade could easily burn if it isn’t removed from the cod before grilling. My grilled cod was cooked with perfect timing for a silky texture that is not overly dry. The flavor was just right with a subtle taste of miso, and the grilled fish was served with a big spoonful of daikon oroshi (grated radish) to offset the fattiness. In terms of portion size, this was also a generous helping compared to a lot of the restaurants I have been to.

Our only complaint would be that they weren’t attentive enough to remember each of our orders and each time they came around with a dish it took us a while to figure out who ordered what. With such a chaos, it was only inevitable that one of us took the wrong lunch set. The waiting staff then informed us that it would take the kitchen another 45 minutes to redo the dish. In the end, my colleagues were forced to swap. The difference in time between the first and the last dishes served was also huge—possibly a half hour gap. Hopefully they would manage the logistics of a larger party size better in the future.

This is a good Japanese restaurant but not the best. It does not pretend to be the best or to be haute cuisine, just good and reasonably priced considering it is in a prime location in Central. Sought a quick bite from this Japanese restaurant for the credit card boons after a movie. The scallop, yellowtail and swordfish were fresh and lightly sweet. The tuna and salmon belly were meltingly fatty. The shrimp and blood clam were normal, though the blood clam was a bit dry. The most offensive was the sea urchin which actually tasted fishy, if not stale. The Inaniwa udon was right in texture and not overcooked. The tempura prawn and mushroom were crispy, but staff didn't supply any tempura sauce. The avocado and foie gras (or pâté) roll was fresh, though in this combination the avocado would essentially mask the foie gras due to the identical texture. 
The service slackened near the end, again maybe due to the late hour (10pm). Despite the minor deficiencies and disappointment at our third visit, with the 50% off credit card boon this cost us only $280 per head which I consider fair.

Second visit to this Japanese eatery located in the basement level of Jardine House - the service and the decor was still stylishly comfortable. 
We started off with the sashimi platter; the scallop and yellowtail were fresh, the salmon belly was rich but the taste was still likably light, the tuna did not carry a heavy fishy flavour which my dining companion disliked, the swordfish and the shrimp were satisfactory. The crab roe soft shell crab avocado roll was obviously cholesterol-filled, but the soft melting texture of the avocado and the crispy soft shell crab matched so well and the flavor rendered even soya sauce superfluous. The roast cod was as we recalled it, fatty and tender and smooth to the palate - a must-order item. The potted seafood udon was the most mundane; luckily the prawn tempura was not soaked to a soggy state (meaning it was placed inside the pot right before serving), the beef egg mushroom with udon in soup was of fair quality but not much difference from any mediocre Japanese restaurant. 
All in all, a great bargain still at $395 per head in this district with the credit card discount of 25% off.

2nd course was a salad with yuzi dressing. I wasn't expecting a lot from the dish when I ordered as I was just ensuring I fulfil my daily intake of vegetables. However, when I started eating the salad, the veg was very crispy and the tomato was crisp and sweet. Impressed! Yuzi dressing also had just the right balance of sweetness and sour.Thumbs up! 

3rd course was a foie gras rice dish. Think of chirashi but instead of raw fish you get foie gras ( cooked) and placed on a bed of sushi rice. The dish was interesting but not overly tasteful. I would say it is a ok dish but not great.

4th course was ginger creme brulee. Disapppointing! there was hardly any ginger flavour and the creme brulee was so so in its taste and texture. Maybe I should not order "french style" dishes in a Japanese restaurant as neither the foie gras not creme brulee was very impressive.

The sashimi platter satisfied our fastidious tastes; the scallop was so fresh, the toro almost sweet with a tinge of fat, the sea urchin did not melt on contact (a freshness proof), the salmon, mackerel, blood clam, shrimp were of above-average quality though the tuna was slightly disappointing with a "fishy" flavour. Offering to deep fry the prawn heads was a nice touch. The grilled cod was smooth and melted on the palate, but was not too salty or sweet. The ox tongue slices were well marinated and chewy. The sea urchin fried rice was quite tasty, it wasn't over-dried (as some eateries blew dry the fried rice dishes and overdid it) but was slightly salty on second helpings. The miso soup was so-so. 
Overall the service was fair though repeated reminders were needed for refilling tea. But with a 50% credit card discount, this was $296 per head which was great value for money and an encore would be in order.

我相信每對情侶總會有一間屬於他們的食堂 ♡Miso屬於我同雨田先生的重要時刻食堂~點解係重要?由初相識,拍拖,求婚。。呢D重要時刻都在這間餐廳(嘻)希望之後每一年都可以至少到訪一次。餐廳燈光柔和,凝造了浪漫氣氛,我想這必定是雨田先生喜歡的原因!除了有卡位外,還可以坐在師傅面前,欣賞一下刀功,亦是晩飯的另一節目……日本餐廳,我最愛的必定是海胆刺身,點了一個刺身拼盤。錦繡刺身拼盤,所有食材都好新鮮,必讚的是带子,肥美而鮮甜。海胆配青瓜囗感更清新。三文魚子壽司,咬落在口內泡泡聲,紫菜亦好脆囗!小食:牛舌,略嫌過腍;不用咬也會在口溶掉似的。牛肉涮涮鍋,配以兩種醬汁,一種有微辣,另一種咸咸的,有點似面豉醬。牛肉薄,但不韌;最愛配料,豆腐超滑。香蕉韃配檸檬雪糕,韃脆脆的,配合朱古力醬再加檸檬雪糕完全不會覺得腻,一口暖一囗凍更令甜品胃大增~雨田先生申請了AE咭,在Miso用餐還有優惠哩~贊♥

Ordered take away and the reception confirmed the order ready in 15 mins. However, when I went to pick up the order they told me it's not ready and should be ready in another 10 - 15 mins. The attitude of the waitress is not professional when she inform me the delay. With the price they charge and the recent renovation I thought both the food and service would be improve. What a disappointment!

-三文魚,非常肥美,是頂級的
-魚子,鮮,你會感到每一粒魚子在你口腔爆開,鮮味在你的牙縫中走動

-海膽,一點也不腥,是粉絲的話要試一試
-加州卷,牛油果為主打,好味,有創意,無欺場

由於有朋友生日,我地一行五人就選擇了這間日本餐廳食飯慶祝!這間餐廳的價格我本人覺得是中上吧,可是這裡的Serivce就一般,首先這里的服務員他們都很趕,可能是趕著交臺給下一場的客人,但是就是讓人覺得不舒服。然後就是生日蛋糕的處理方法,其實我一進去就把蛋糕交給了服務員,可是到我們食飽晚飯拿出來的時候,蛋糕出水了. 我們就問不是放冰箱嗎?!她們回答一接過就已經放去放菜的冰箱去了! 我的蛋糕是在landmark cafe 買的,我走天橋過來miso也不至於出水吧?!好,既然朋友生日,我們就算了,不吵!到食物了,還是有水準的.
