一連去了兩晚,態度比想像中好(我大約知道態度差的源頭是誰人⋯
),當中有日可能少客人關係所以態度不錯。
兩晚食了很多,但令我們回味的有兩道,是我們的泰國菜史上的第一位

1) 沙津系
呢間泰菜的汁都十分美味!

沙津系的汁正宗,辣但好好食,令人又愛又恨⋯最後頂唔順叫左飲品
識食之人不要錯過!

2) 燒側魚
真心不得了,好好食!

見飯友講汁好食,但我地就話就算唔要汁都好好食!
牽開燒至脆身的魚皮,露出雪白魚肉,不沾任何汁料下食,驚為天人!

看似是沒有味道,但入口是香濃的香料味!每一口都似是將魚肉連香料一同食用⋯明明只是把魚肉放入口!
最最後把魚肉吃光,以為是尾聲,但原來還有後繼!
就是把魚骨翻開,內在有棵吸收了精華的生菜
放入口⋯不得之了!!!這生菜充滿了魚的鮮&香料的香!!!

好啦~以上形容好像有點誇張不過是真的
最後一句:食物及服務質素要同樣地好少算一流,希望萍姐泰國菜可以成為一流食店

都幾抵食,只係個生蝦貴了一點點。其他都唔錯。

OK, so this wasn't actaully my first choice for dinner. I had walked past Ping Kee various times to and fro during my lunch breaks and venturing down to Sai Ying Pun; but have never got to try the food until now. Also, the restaurant seemed to do a brisk business every time I walked by. Why not tonight then? From the outside, the decor and menu looked decent enough.

Little did we know we were in for a shock.

So we sat down and ordered three dishes to share. The usual staple Thai dishes of Pad Thai, fried morning glory and Tom Yum Goong.

Pad Thai

The Pad Thai came in a reasonably large serving, but bore little if no resemblence to the Pad Thai found in Thailand or anywhere else for that matter. There was no side dish of raw beansprouts, lime nor ground peanuts and the noodles were in fact fried not with shrimp paste, fish and black sauce but with tomato sauce. The taste was indeed weird to anyone who has ever eaten Pad Thai prior to this. There was no prawns either, instead all there was a few slices of chicken?! in the overly soggy "Pad Thai" that I would not have known it was the famed Thai dish had I not ordered it myself.

Fried Morning Glory

OK, so this dish was actually the only dish I found decent - similar to the standard found in other Thai/Malaysian restaurants. Nothing really special, but overall it was OK.

Tom Yum Goong

The Tom Yum Goong was rather tasteless with two big prawn HEADS tossed into the bowl but no prawns at all. It should be called "Tom Yum Khai" instead, for there was chicken slices (again!) in the soup but nothing else. In fact, the flavour was also thin and not the creamy stock you would expect from a decent bowl of Tom Yum Goong. Once again, the standard of the Tom Yum Goong was something you would expect from a Tom Yum flavoured cup noodle and not the Tom Yum served in a dining establishment.

OK. So much for the food. What really irked my friend and I was the horrible attitude of the elderly man in charge (I presume he's the boss or the husband of the boss). When we decided to order another another plate of food midway through the meal, we had to literally beg him to take our order. Granted, the restaurant was full by then, but hey, it was the first time in my life in which no one responded to my calls even thoguh it was obvious he saw me gesturing to him. I had to walk up to him THREE times before he took the order, while mumbling to himself about why I was troubling him when he was so busy and why couldn't I place all of my orders beforehand.


It was probably the worst service I have encountered so far in a dining establishment - and coupled with the slop they serve as 'Thai' cuisine, I really wonder how they manage to get all the celebrity endorsements they have up on their wall.

For an improptu dinner a couple months ago we went to this place hoping to get some hearty authentic Thai grub. The three of us went for a couple Pad Thais, a Tom Yum Gong Soup and a Green Curry Prawn with rice.

Pad Thai ($56)
The two plates of rice-stick noodles were anything but authentic. The noodles were coated in a watery tomato sauce and was simply sweet, no tang of time and there was nothing savoury. The noodles should be fried dry but instead we got super soft noodles with big chunks of semi-cooked tomato slices and protein (dried tofu and chicken) that was not fresh at all.

Tom yum gung soup ($60)
The soup was a big bowl of salty and spicy broth with a couple overcooked shrimp, nothing more.

Green Curry with Prawn ($98)
There were about 12 sad little shrimps in a watery-thin green coconut sauce. Not spicy at all, and none of the sweet and spicy balance that green curries should have. The shrimps were not only small but stupendously over-cooked till they were basically mush in texture. I might as well left out the rice because that sauce was no where near good enough to pour over the rice.

The fact that every time I walk by this place it is full at dinner times (during the week) is beyond me. Perhaps its due to a lack of good restaurants but I do also feel that this is a try-once-no-next-time kind of place. The fact that there's all these photos of celebrities with the chef does nothing and I hope with time they realise their food is below-par and improve on their many basic dishes.

I wasn't able to find anything that I liked about this meal and my dining companions felt the same. Over-charged and disappointed, we left, swearing to not return again.

Despite looking rather local chinese-y from the outside, with a brightly lit red/blue/white sign, the overall experience was not too shabby. The owner, a man in his 50's, might look a bit surly at first, but keep smiling and joking with him and he'll warm up to you. We ordered a few grilled items: ox tongue, rib eye, lamb chop, okra, oyster mushroom (only a few pieces cut very small), and grilled eggplant (pork floss was added but it didn't work, weird flavours and eggplant was too mushy) all of which was average as the meat was too dry (the ox tongue looked furry), and the vegetables was cooked but lacked that barbie smokey flavour. The papaya salad was much better, one of the spicier ones I've had in town, and packed in a good punch with a crunch. The very large prawn cake looked and tasted like a factory made pancake, but it was alright with the sauce, no complaints there. The green chicken curry was oily, didn't have much curry sauce, and the chicken was stringy and tough. The pad thai was the best dish of the night, it was a very tomato-y rendition which gave it a ketch-up colour and a tangy taste.

飯後跟老闆寒喧並查問小店歷史,老闆兩喬居香港多年,正宗泰國人。原來小店前身是泰式雜貨舖,老闆娘做菜了得,從兼做泰式小食佔一半地方到現在完全放棄雜貨專注食店。今次晚飯各人食得開心,十分滿意。走時,看見別檯叫了泰式蝦膏炒飯色香味俱全,好想試一口。再想,不如給自己一個借口再盡快回來品嘗其它美食。

接住落黎仲有泰式海鮮生菜包, 呢個生菜包真係落足料, 除左有扎肉外, 仲有魷魚, 蝦仁同肉碎, 魷魚夠爽口, 蝦仁夠新鮮大隻, 而且十分爽口, 至於肉碎同扎肉就一般, 不過呢個汁就非常惹味, 酸酸辣辣, 配上生菜大塊新鮮, 成份生菜包真係叫好又叫座, 絕對係必食推介; 最後仲有炒飯同炒通菜, 炒飯炒得好乾身, 味道討好, 香香辣辣, 非常之正; 炒通菜嘅通菜十分嫩綠, 份略嫌油少少, 整體亦算甚佳!

總括黎講食物質不俗, 服務有禮, 環境清潔乾淨, 係地方細少少, 而價錢都唔貴, 食咁多野每人都係百幾蚊, 師傅就覺得幾抵食! 師傅同戚小姐雖然成日都喺網上聯絡, 但就好耐冇面對面咁見過, 是次一見發現大家都別來無恙, 實在令人歡喜; 對於是晚飯局師傅真的非常滿意, 所以笑臉一定要比, 有機會都會再黎; 但要師傅再次黎呢個鬼地方真係唔容易, 除非戚小姐再次相約啦! 最後還得多謝戚小姐嘅介紹, 更重要係多謝戚小姐嘅邀請, 皆因戚小姐冇收到師傅一分一毫呀!

很久沒有來第三街,朋友說,這裡開了一家泰國菜,於是便過來試試了。正如其他食家一樣,在下亦受到不禮貌對待;然而在下向來對服務不太注重,君不見坊間很多老牌名店,只要食物好吃有水準,大家還不是一邊受氣一邊吃?只是服務不佳,而菜式亦不過爾爾,就未免太過份了…打從菜牌已覺得很奇怪。不知是鄰近的燒烤店生意太好,超過有一半菜式都是燒烤,所謂的泰國菜,亦只是炸蝦餅、春捲、泰式沙律等尋常菜式。當然,只要做得出色,尋常菜也可吃得精彩,然而那塊蝦餅嘛… 卻與一般超市現成貨無甚分別。OK,就當泰國菜只是晃子好了,再看看這家店主打的燒烤。說是主打,是出於店內那半開揚燒烤格局,食客不單隱約看到燒烤過程,桌上亦於滿了各式各樣、早已串好的燒烤食材;無奈這些食材嘛,大部份只是一些牛丸、墨丸、雞軟骨、茄子之類… 即是說,閣下也可在街邊魚蛋檔也可吃到。若然肯心去燒、用心去做,平凡如魚蛋也可以很好吃,但很可惜,這家小店卻做不到。較為可取的,就只有那酸酸辣辣的泰式醬汁而已。在下想吃一點較特別的,於是點了一件燒羊鞍,盛惠三十大元。很乾,很韌,很小。朋友說,平時去BBQ也是這個樣子。苦中作樂,這頓晚飯才總算吃得下去。說一句公道話。

說一句公道話。
不少食家都盛讚燒魚,味道似乎不錯。無奈在下仍有餘悸,並無勇去試,然而當晚現場所見,確實有不少人點了燒魚,似乎吃得津津有味。
事後上來察看,原來萍姐已開業超過一年… 何以這家不倫不類的食店仍可生存?或者是那條燒魚吧!
