I have to write this review after reading some rather substandard reviews denigrating the place unnecessarily.  With all due respect, the slights on the food in some of the reviews go no further than whether a dish was being salty or not, or whether abalone on a dish was enough in quantity, speak volume about the dubious quality of the reviewers themselves - a rather sad disposition of Hong Kong food eaters.  It is not that I am a professional judge or anything, but I do believe we ought to delve further into the details of the food before making hasty judgments on dishes that are beyond our everyday staple food like McD.  And in case those people are thoroughly conversant in English, I am happy to append the Chinese translations of some points I made herein:

某些比"負皮"的所謂"食評"只在食物咸淡或鮑魚份量的多少著墨,或多或少反映其淺薄的質素。這可能是香港人的卑哀。幸而OpenRice懂得將一些標為"非食評"。

Ever since moving to the area in February, my experience with this place, of the 6 times being there, was excellent throughout.  And therefore I brought some friends over to the place for dinner on Sunday, and we had just as fine an experience there.

We pre-ordered the BBQ-pork for dinner, as it is almost always sold out if we walked-in for it.

Though portion was a bit small for a crowd of 8, we managed to taste a fine dish of BBQ-pork, which was fine and tender.  Unlike an abundance of cheap BBQ-pork elsewhere, the redness on the skin of the meat felt natural and well-marinated.  The only knock was that the pork itself was a bit less juicy than the last time we tried, but that should be an anomaly.  All other tries of BBQ-pork before this time were excellent.

Other dishes we ordered consisted of pork loin chop (16oz), clams in cream sauce with bread, fried rice with eel and crab roe, risotto-style rice with black truffles, crispy chicken in soy sauce and fried soft-shell crab with pepper.

Didn't try the seafood dishes (allergies) but my friends were all very satisfied.

The crispy chicken in soy sauce is one of my favourites.  The chicken meat was made perfectly tender, and the sauce tastes very special with a fine balance between the saltiness and chicken taste.  The pork loin was fine as well.  As an occasional cook I always find dealing with pork loin to cook it perfectly was very difficult, but they managed to serve another perfectly tender, juicy and well-marinated pork loin.

I am a big fan of risotto, and while the rice with black truffles is not exactly made of risotto, it was very good nonetheless.  The pleasant scent of black truffles was consistent throughout the dish, which distinguishes itself from similar dishes from other dineries which sprayed truffles/truffled-favours onto a dish, which created unevenness.  The truffle scent was also not taking over the dish, retaining a finely balanced character in it.  The rice was perfectly cooked for it as well.

Also, the manager, Alan, was heck of a friendly guy and gave us a couple of freebies in soup du jour (MSG-free and finely boiled)!  A very hearty experience with him.

Although I am not a fan of the dinery's big boss (and his dissing of 細蓉), I am hoping this review would serve as a more useful note for those who want to try unorthodox fusion food with a Chinese leitmotif that is more exciting than the daily boredom of HK-style food.

之前聽說林先生在荔枝角開了這間,看到眾說ok紜紜就前來試了。午市人流很多,看得出這裡是附近銀行職員會來的午餐地方。餐廳闊落,地方都蠻整潔。前菜的一個沙律,略嫌有點求其,這個貨色,情願他是餐湯。點的是一個日本照燒雞扒午餐,賣相吸引但味道普通非常。通常燒汁下飯不錯,偏偏這個沒什麼味道,雞扒也有點乾身而且好細塊。茄子漬物只有一件但索價84元,實在很貴丫。整餐最滿意就是美顏蔬果汁,真材實料,也沒有溝水,雖然跟餐叫要加14元,但蠻值得的。鑑於價錢太貴,下次還是不會來了。

在云云的甜品中,雪糕是我的至愛。當晚的三色雪糕 $42,獨特的橙皮朱古力、焦糖海鹽雲喱嗱,還有時間限定的皮貓山皇榴槤雪糕,其吸引度終令我不得不一試。

橙與朱古力一向是好拍擋,由小時候的朱古力橙餅足以證明,不過這組合也有弊端,一旦味道過濃便會產生膩意。幸運的是橙味芳香,朱古力濃而不甜,兩者比例恰好;而焦糖海鹽雲喱嗱是當中最甜的一款,主要受頂部焦糖所影響,雲喱嗱味尚算突出,若然海鹽可來得強烈一點,便更理想了;最後的貓山皇榴槤雪糕,端來時已散發出濃厚的香氣,入口榴槤味十足,絕對可媲美榴槤之美。

當剛剛完成了中式,就轉向西式出發,從套餐中點了一份【醬烤豬仔骨】。這份Set Dinner已包白飯及例湯,真的第一次以西式的烤豬仔骨配白飯來吃,話雖奇怪,但豬仔骨的確美味,已被烤得軟腍,啖啖肉加上惹味的燒烤醬,不一會已連白飯也吃光了。不過,例湯是蕃茄薯仔湯,很有家庭的風味。

一直吃,一直吃,吃到差不多時,友人們仍然未夠喉,就再接再厲地點上【濃魚湯浸時蔬】及【蕃茄牛肉鍋貼】。濃魚湯果然是真材實料,魚味香濃,一下子連湯也喝光了。鍋貼更是出奇地美味,雖然色水有點奇怪,像未熟的牛肉般,但味道卻很好,表面煎得香脆可口,餡料也夠鮮味,值得一試。

公司午飯,一心諗住試新野,近近地揀左廳2, 之前睇過食評好壞參半,但都想親身試下,點知去到真係火都黎。有3位同事想叫牛扒,竟然無貨,得番一份,大佬,lunch set 去到一點就無貨,唔係呀。。而唯一食到last一份既老闆comment係唔好食,落單唔問幾成熟,過老,肉又乾又硬。我叫左個常餐,份量真係唔係好夠,咩都得好少,味道好一般,條腸熱都唔熱,無邊樣係特別好食,最深印象係個碗跟餐米線,真係得一啖,見到男同事食完唔飽個樣真係慘,仲要唔好食。。。荔枝角食有質素號西餐太多好選擇,哩到我就唔會再俾機會佢。

因為已經book 左位,所以就唔洗等。一入到去比個碗既擺設吸引左,係做得幾精緻。叫左好多野黎share食個人覺得個喇沙算係叫咁多種野入面算係正常偏好食,個湯底都係入味,但D魚蛋配料就失色左D。正正常常既小籠包 無咩特別因為係朋友食個鮑魚飯,所以個味道就唔太清楚啦香茅豬扒 普普通通個鰻魚都係幾好食既,我鐘意佢個汁,味道適中。雞軟骨都香口個豬扒好難嘴嚼。呢個意粉個味芝士味好濃,個真係好好好咸!食完要飲好多水叫左個常餐,都唔係有咩特別,但個牛角包係好食既。總括所以既食物,就係會推薦個喇沙同個鰻魚。其他就真係好麻麻同埋好貴。環境就還好,但其實lunch都幾嘈下,想搵個清靜D既環境就唔推薦去啦。
