Central is not entirely covered with burger tracks the same way pho has done to Causeway Bay. Not a good sign. It can only mean that either Central are populated with burger lovers, or they simply can't open anywhere else with the pricing and the choices they offer. Either way, Urban Eatery, opened 3 weeks now and still nobody reviewed it here. It can also mean 2 things, either this place is serving nothing special, or people are overwhelmed to a speechless level. I have plenty to say about this place, and 'Urban' doesn't begin to describe this eatery. 'Urban Eatery' looks very familiar on the eye, then it hit me. It resembled a college's cafeteria -- metal chairs, tables, seasoning stand and an open kitchen counter and even more open kitchen behind that. Brought back memories of factory line produced meals that tasted of cardboards and endless nights of cramming over barely hot coffees. Urban Eatery promises freshness with "A new twist", as said in the leaflet on each table. The place is brightly lit, and the owner is sunny and welcoming. Burgers remain the primary focus here. Forget the choices, Beef is the way you go, and among 6 sauces you are less likely to go wrong with any. Toppings are all reasonable and there are none of the froufrou choices that are contrived and kiss-ass gourmet lookalikes. None of that, in fact you can count on Swiss Cheese and Bacon. I wouldn't take the Fries ($15) because for $5 more you can have spicy wedges ($20) or Twister Fries of the same price. Health-conscious ones are more than welcome to try their choose and toss salads, made to order right in front of you. Those who fancy something sweet can go for the yogurt. A plain one costs $26, soft and not sweet like the other ones you get. The dairy dessert makes it clear that it's yogurt, and it tastes like one. For an extra $4 you can get two fruit or dry toppings. Raspberries are extremely nice on the choices but not on the menu. Look for surprise toppings. The beverage list is inclusive of anything drinkable, but then I would strongly suggest the yogurt over the drinks, after all Urban Eatery is putting their yogurt as its highly recommended product. 'Urban' doesn't start to cover what this eatery is all about. My visit was satisfactory, and looking at others chowing down burgers and gulping down smoothies like teenagers, you'll realize that the only thing that may have given this eatery away is its name. Could it be too simple that makes us value it less than an ordinary urban eatery like many others around the block? That, is for others to decide. continue reading
