I never write reviews but my experience at Okapi Restaurant was VERY bad and I just had to.I went to Okapi two days ago for Mother's Day and booked a table for 8pm. I went to Okapi two days ago for Mother's Day and booked a table for 8pm. We ended up arriving at 8.45 because of the heavy rain and traffic and they were really nice about it when we called 2 different times to postpone the reservation. When we got there the server was very attentive. Since it was raining we had umbrellas with us, she immediately gave me an umbrella bag and when I was about to leave it outside she advised that we take it with us, as sometimes people would mistakenly take others umbreallas. For that I was very grateful.
However, after that, everything wasn't so pleasant.
1) I was looking forward to order the mussel pot, but since we got there at 8.45 it turned out it was already sold out and apparently was sold out ard 6-7ish. I understand food being out of stock, but I would assume if this is one of their signature dishes and it was Mother's Day, they would be more prepared, e.g. ask customers when they book their tables if they would order mussels?!? I don't know, I don't work in F&B but I would think this is common sense. Or maybe I'm just holding a grudge coz I couldn't try the mussel pot..either way I think this needs some improving on.
2) I ordered a Dinner for Two Set, and the first dish was the Foie Gras salad which is shared by two. The dish came and they did not give us extra dishes so we could share and we ended up having to use our bread plates.
3) We had a party of three and this is the first time I've been to a restaurant in which the main dishes were served separately. My dish came first and it took another 3-5 minutes for the 2nd dish to arrive and another 3-4 minutes till the last dish came. I'm usually more patient and understanding if the restaurant was full, but we were the last table left...so I was not happy with that.
4) Finally, this is what I did not enjoy most. The manager (who I assume he is since he was the only one in a suit while the servers were only in shirts) was yelling at one of the server in front of everyone. First, I do not agree with yelling. If the server had done something wrong you could have used a better tone. Secondly, it was absolutely inappropriate that he did it in the dining area. There were definitely a lot of places he could have done his yelling, e.g. in the kitchen or where the restrooms were located, at least out of view from the customers. Not only did he make the customers uncomfortable, but it was also embarassing for the server.
As for the food, it was very average.
1) The lobster soup was ok, I like lobster soup with a thicker texture rather than too watery so I wasn't overly excited about their soup. Also, it was warm when it came and soup really should be hot. The
2) The baked snail was very bland.
3) The lamb was small (maybe because it was the dinner for two set). And sadly, my mom ended up only eating half of the already small lamb because there was too much fat.
4) The sirloin was well cooked but lacked juiciness.
5) The foie gras was good, but could have been cooked a little long.
6) The dessert was good according to my family as I don't eat sweet.
Despite the server being really polite, I will 100% not be coming back again because there are definitely restaurants with better food and management for this price.
