Since my return from Vienna, I have been in search of spots in Hong Kong where I can pause my life for a moment, enjoy nice food, and spend some quality time. Since my return from Vienna, I have been in search of spots in Hong Kong where I can pause my life for a moment, enjoy nice food, and spend some quality time. I missed the mornings when I was sipping my Viennese coffee while having a quiet read or working on some writing. Occasionally I would raise my head and look around the cafe and smile at the tranquil scene. Hong Kong is such a busy city that it almost never sleeps, and it is inevitable to feel suffocated at times. Originally I planned to visit a cafe on Upper Station Street; due to its unexpected closure, I was wandering around streets in Sheung Wan under the rain. Rain was falling heavier by each and every drop and when I raised my head and looked, I was standing right opposite to Veygo Coffee.

I was finally seated and I found myself facing the kiosk. It was a dainty cafe with a limited of seats, and everyone was quiet enjoying their own time and space. I skimmed through the menu. They have burger sets and some light meals to offer, and a brunch set over the weekend. I set my eyes on Eggs Benedict with Ciabatta and Homemade Hollandaise with Smoked Salmon on top. It also came with coffee and I had Flat White. It was a reasonable pricing at HKD 98 for what I have ordered without service charge. Sitting at my seat and looking at the rain battling on the window, I had a feeling that I could take a break from the outside world for a little while.

My Flat White arrived first. Some friends told me the first coffee to check out at a cafe shoulde Flat White, that you could tell whether it served good coffee or not. Loved the creamy and foamy top. The coffee was quite smooth while I reckoned it could have been more velvety for the body. Nonetheless, the ambience mattered a lot for a real coffee break, unlike those in malls where you almost resembled mannikin in stores' display

My Eggs Benedict came shortly after the coffee. Instead of serving the eggs and salmon on muffin, they had them on Ciabatta. It was absolutely a wise choice! Thumbs up! The Ciabatta was soft and airy, and had a faint aroma of olive oil and butter. Sometimes it could get slightly difficult to cut up the muffin or toast, but this problem did not exist with ciabatta, I just loved its texture and flavor. Even when it absorbed rich hollandaise, I could still distiguish its taste. The hollandaise offered a hint of lemon flavor inside, so it did not seem to heavy to finish up the whole dish! If I had to be picky, I guess it could be hotter when it was served. Well, it could have been the fact that I have spent too much time snapping pictures.

When I nibbled through my eggs benedict, I really appreciated the fact that I was not 'disturbed', that I could have time for organizing my own thoughts and let them to sink in. (I was finishing up an interview report for my school). It was only until at least 10 minutes later when the server came over and asked softly if I was done with. This was definitely good service; sometimes I find it very annoying for servers to come right after I put down my utensils. I really doubted if I had been monitored for the whole meal and they were trying every second to maximize the turnover rate. Could not agreed more with Veygo's philosophy that they wanted to build a group of loyal customers. Nice food is not good enough to keep its customers, attentive (in a wise way to understand customers' needs) is indispensable.
I walked up to the display to check out the desserts, and was drawn to 3 - Chocolate & Halzelnut Mousse, Green Tea Cheesecake and Tofu Cheesecake. Having known that Green Tea Cheesecake and Tofu Cheesecake were their new creations, I decided on Tofu Cheesecake!

It was then I realized they serve Harney & Sons tea here! Simply gave me another reason to return

My cake arrived. It looked totally like a block of Tofu caramelised on the top surface. It was very creamy and cake dough was actually layered in between the tofu and cheese batter. It was not too sweet with quite a strong taste of soya bean as if soya bean milk had been turned into a cake!

Despite the rain, it was an awesome morning. The cafe reminded me of those located on narrow alleys in Europe, where you can readily spend a morning or afternoon with your favorite book or music. On my way out, I spotted a showcase of muffins! There was this Orangge poppy seed muffin at the very left, almost felt they were waving at me. OK, I am very sure I'll be back!
