Being famous for the setting, style and the resemblance of the high end restaurant in wan chai in the 80s (or being famous as a restaurant run by a singer in HK), it caused quite a stir when it was opened a few months ago. ..I once tried lunch there and felt that it wasn’t as good as commented (was too lazy to write in openrice back then). After 6 months, we decided to give it a second chance, and this time going to “la scène de Junon” (vs bistro area of the restaurant) where there would be live

After 6 months, we decided to give it a second chance, and this time going to “la scène de Junon” (vs bistro area of the restaurant) where there would be live vocal music - what this place was made for.
.
There were only two seatings, 7pm and 7:30pm. I know that for efficiency and easy management, the menu was preset. However, without any choice, it felt a bit like set dinner than fine dining.
.
.
Once we were seated the first performer began singing. She was actually the best singer for the night in my opinion. Her voice and skills in singing blues were great, brought us back to the old days by her pick of Chinese, English and Cantonese songs of that time. The second singer / guitarist from French sang very sweet and delicate French love songs which was great too. The last singer sang Chinese songs in accurate mandarin but we could hardly distinguish if what language she was singing in some songs...

The waitress introduced briefly the menu during the break of the performance. It was not that the waitress did not try her best to serve us, but we can see that she was just trying to “recite and repeat in saying” the ingredients of the menu word by word but not really have knowledge of the cuisine they are serving.
.
E.g. it is never PER-dessert but not pre-dessert, and technically the amuse broche is not regarded as one of the courses...
(I am sorry if we didn’t have the menu in hand it may be a bit difficult for us to get what she was saying. )
.
The bread basket took sooooo long to come while every table was served except us. I thought it was because that they needed to reheat the bread. Unfortunately it was not the case.

Amuse bouche - tomato sorbet with black pepper

This is surprisingly good as the stuffed black truffle gives flavour to the macaroni
.
.
They were generous in the truffle portion and the pan-fried turbot fish with the crispy skin was nicely prepared.
.
.
Pre-dessert of the grapefruit sorbet, despite the plating, it was quite refreshing
.
.
Finally the dessert of cherry in two-ways with rice pudding.
.
.
Since the serving of macaroni there were no more introduction of the food when they was ‘put on our table’, we could only dig out our slightest memory of the menu and say, guess what favour was the macaron from the taste and look. For other dishes, they were served like mere distribution of food to the customers by just putting down the dishes on the table.. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, it took SOOOOOOO slow ...
.
At first we thought because they did not want to disturb the performance. Sadly it was not the case as during the break, no food was ever served to our table.
.
Undoubtedly credit should be given to the look and feel of the setting in the restaurant. E.g. Below was a photo taken in the toilet of the restaurant.
.
Yet we could tell there was nobody held responsible for the cleaning of the toilet for the whole night. It was a mess and There were no more toilet paper
.
After all it is a place for enjoying the performance. We cannot blame anyone for the food experience.
Please come, for the live music but don’t come specifically for the food or you would be disappointed.
