decided to try out this nearby restaurant (francis on saint francis street, wanchai) on a T8 night. food was fine, but the drama was at the very end of the dinner.my friend could not find his umbrella in the bucket at the entrance, where he was made to place his wet umbrella when we arrived. a waitress came over and took out all the umbrellas, but my friend's umbrella wasn't there. it was his favourite umbrella. 🙁waitress took one of the umbrellas from the pile in the bucket, and said "here, yo
my friend could not find his umbrella in the bucket at the entrance, where he was made to place his wet umbrella when we arrived. a waitress came over and took out all the umbrellas, but my friend's umbrella wasn't there. it was his favourite umbrella. 🙁
waitress took one of the umbrellas from the pile in the bucket, and said "here, you can take this one". my friend immediately refused:-
1. there were still people at the restaurant - the umbrella might belong to one of the customers - he didn't want to be accused of stealing other people's umbrella;
2. tonight was T8 - he didn't want to take someone else's umbrella;
3. he will not want to use this random umbrella again
i got a bit angry. the waitress then opened up a cabinet, which might probably be a staff's cabinet. there were 2 umbrellas, but not my friend's.
waitress said we could give them a number to call, in case someone brings the umbrella back, but she doubted anyone would.
i was furious (it was T8 and raining hard). asked her what she'd do to keep this from happening again (i.e. someone "mistakenly taking" other's umbrella). she simply reiterated "you can take this umbrella" (from the bucket). all along, there was no apology for the inconvenience caused, not to mention compensation.
actually, the restaurant is small. buying 40 luggage tags, tagging each umbrella and giving each customer with a corresponding card shouldn't be that difficult, would it?
but tonight's drama was already enough to deter me from returning. it might not be the waitress' fault, and the system of the restaurant might not be within her control, but i was not very impressed by her way of handling the matter (i.e. offering an umbrella from a bucket which holds customers' umbrellas to us).
