Also known as 𝗘𝗮𝘂 𝗱𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗲 (𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦), fruit spirits like calvados and pisco are distilled fruit brandy historically significant to European drinking culture. With a mission to incorporate fruit spirits into HK’s bar scene, each of Orchard’s special cocktails centre around fruit spirits, with a shot accompanying the drink to give you a glimpse of the base component 🙌🤩
My favourites from their 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙪 were the 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 : a complex cocktail using the 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘪𝘴𝘦 (𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘺) 𝘧𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵 as a base, it’s fragrant acidity competing with other strong notes like pink guava, strawberry shrub & bell pepper 🍓and 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 : a clean, sophisticated drink using 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘷𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘴 (𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘴) 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘺 and infused with flavours of cinnamon and pear 🍐
They also do spin-offs of classic cocktails like the Ultimate Gimlet (bartender Alex’s favourite), replacing the usual lime with a cucumber-basil cordial that was really refreshing 🌿
Also loved watching the drinks being made in front of us, much like an “omakase experience” were you get to appreciate the finesse and technique that goes into making the drinks 🤩
