To celebrate the end of 2014, our group of (past and current) classmates had dinner at Rice Paper. There was quite a line-up for a weekday, but I guess people are more eager to go out during the holidays. Festivity was also the reason we chose Rice Paper. Ok, let's get down to business: food — which by the way I don't remember the names. Anyway, we had deep-fried shrimp cakes which were hot on the inside and crispy golden on the outside. This dish was a perfect match with the sweet and sour sauce. The satay skewers (three kinds of meat), I found a little overcooked and dry. Rice paper rolls were a good cooling snack. Yet another wonder combo with the sweet and sour sauce.

Next was beef curry. We ordered baguettes to go along with it. Bread with sauce: excellent. One of the favourites of the night was surely the deep-fried spring rolls. And for that we encored. Mixture of textures is something I like. Hot crispy spring roll wrapped in fresh cool lettuce, what's not to like?

Still more to come: pad thai and soft shell crab vermicelli. Both were yummy. I had a bite at the crab even with my allergies.

The last dish on the list was grilled fish. The fish flesh was moist and tender and the cucumber side dish was refreshing.

Now it's dessert time! We ordered three. The banana pudding with vanilla ice cream was too sweet. It would've been better if the sauce were plain. The purple rice dessert was the prettiest, but also the heaviest. Feeling as full as I was, it wasn't the best choice. The most ideal one was the coconut jelly tossed with papaya. It was a neatly cut transparent cube that would simply melt in the mouth and unleash sweet refreshing natural coconut juice to every taste bud. Quite a sensation!
