It was my first time to a creperie in Hong Kong, and I had reasonably high expectations for this restaurant, with its great ratings, French owner and whatnot. I must say I was disappointed.Since we'd made a reservation, we were seated immediately upon arrival. My friend had a GnT and I had a homemade lemonade, which was quite forgettable and overpriced. Since we'd made a reservation, we were seated immediately upon arrival. My friend had a GnT and I had a homemade lemonade, which was quite forgettable and overpriced.
I shared with my friend a galette with ham, egg, cheese and tomatoes. The fillings were ordinary and not particularly fresh, but the bigger problem was the galette itself - it was somewhat burnt and tasted bitter. My other friend who ordered a galette with bacon, egg and cheese had one that was so burnt that she could only eat the toppings and had to leave the burnt galette. In a restaurant called "La Creperie", one would expect better quality galettes. How difficult is it to not burn your galettes? Luckily, their crepes were considerably much more gratifying.
We each had a crepe for dessert, one with salted butter caramel with stewed apples, another with salted butter caramel with almonds, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream and the third with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Personally I'm not a big fan of cooked fruits so I didn't enjoy the one with stewed apples, but the salted butter caramel sauce was surprisingly delightful. The vanilla ice cream was creamy and on the authentic side, with lovely vanilla bean specks. Overall service was lovely, especially with the French owner/manager, and the ambience of the restaurant was nice too. If they would just promise to stop burning their galettes, I might consider going back.
