Passion by Gerard Dubois is a long chain of bakery/cafes in Hong Kong. Started as La Rose Noire that only sold bread in certain grocery stores, it later became a full blown cafe in Wanchai that sold not only bread but delicious cakes and later on hot meals, sandwiches and salads. Since then it has expanded in various locations throughout Hong Kong and their most recent location is Causeway Bay.. A location that is now closer to me which pleased me dearly as now I can get my Passion fix in a more
After work, I came for I always need a cake break. So, on this day, cake break was Passion. Layout is exactly like all their other locations. You order and pay at the cashier. They give you a pager that will ring to pick up your order. There is no 10% service charge. Everything is in English and Chinese.
Tarte au Citron ($40). My favorite from this place and it didn't disappoint. The tart pastry was buttery soft, crumbly and not stone hard like some places (*coughagnesbcough*). The taste was a sharp lemon taste with a touch of sweetness. The way I like my lemon tarts. Delicious. Blackcurrent Mint Breeze ($39). They had a new series of drinks so I decided to try one instead of my usual latte at this place. Perhaps I should have stuck to the latte. It was served in a pretty bottle, wrapped in a gold ribbon. But it didn't taste very good. What I got was a mouthful of soda water along with some sticky syrup squeezed to the side. There was a few bits of mint but not enough for me to get that mint taste that I love so much. Was not good at all and I won't be ordering this again. The cakes that day looked like they were all tipped to one side. I don't know if it was an off day or not. Looks aside, it still tasted good so I'll stick to what I love here. I'll have to try out their salad next time.
