Godbro XO had some friends visiting from the US, and his friend likes horseracing, so XO invited his friend and his wife to The Jockey Club in Happy Valley on Wednesday night.  XO asked me if I was interested, and I said yes since I've never been to horseracing even though I live in Happy Valley!

XO's manager at work is a member of The Jockey Club, and he was nice enough to reserve a table for all of us.  Our party of 6 arrived around 6:30, and XO already knew the table number since the table number was given ahead of time.

We placed our dinner order quickly so that we could wrap up dinner early and concentrate on the horseracing activity.

Our food arrived in a timely manner, and as our food arrived, we ordered a few bowls of rice, and there was a little confusion as to the number of bowls of rice ordered, but that was sorted out later.

Soy Sauce Chicken: This is a signature dish at The Jockey Club, and it didn't disappoint!  The chicken was very tender, and the soy sauce was seasoned nicely.  The soy sauce wasn't too salty, and it carried a pleasant sweetness.

Chinese Lettuce with Chili Pepper and Fermented Tofu:  The Chinese Lettuce was not overcooked, so it retained a crunchy texture.  The chili pepper and fermented tofu seasoning was balanced beautifully, so it wasn't too spicy or salty.

Curry Beef Brisket:  The beef brisket was a little tough, but the curry sauce was a little spicy and very flavorful.

Spare Ribs with Sweet Preserved Greens: The highlight of this dish was the sweet preserved greens, or sweet mui choi.  The mui choi had a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.  The spare ribs were quite tender, and the dish went perfectly with a bowl of rice.

Although the main attraction of the night was the horseracing, and we enjoyed ourselves during the races, the food at Provincial was quite remarkable as well.  The staff at Provincial were very nice and friendly, and even though we had a non-Chinese-speaking couple with us, they didn't make a fuss and was very accommodating.  (They even asked XO to make sure that I understood Chinese
