Chances are if you look up where to eat in Tuen Mun on OpenRice, By The Tray will inevitably pop up as one of the top results. Indeed this cafe has been on my list for some time, but the location is not the most convenient. It's situated halfway between Siu Hong and Tuen Mun MTR. You can reach the cafe by walking there (around 30 min) or taking the light rail from either MTR station. The cafe's decor stands out from its surroundings. The cafe's decor stands out from its surroundings. Just look out for lots wooden panels and greenery. I really dig the vibe - the rustic feel is calming, and who doesn't like plants?
It was quite busy this weekend, but we were lucky to get the last table when we arrived at 12. Shortly after, queues started forming for both dine in and take out, but the wait time didn't seem too long.
Here's what we ordered:
A Big Breakfast ($118)
Carbonara Spaghetti with Onsen Egg ($70)
Corned Beef and Cheese Hot Dog with Fries ($45+$15)
Oranfee ($50)
Caramel Coffee ($55)
Everything we ordered was delicious. The eggs were nice and fluffy, the spaghetti portion was massive (easily could've fed 2 or 3), and I loved the drinks. The only minor disappointment we had was with the hot dog. We ordered the corned beef and cheese hot dog which turned out to contain egg instead of sausage. Don't get me wrong, it was still a very tasty dish, but we were expecting a sausage when we ordered a hot dog..
The bill came to around $330, which was very reasonable for the quality of portion!
