I went to this gelato shop this afternoon with my son and requested to have a single scoop with the cone on the side. I have never had any problems with my order at other places and I do this because my son is a messy eater. I usually ask the shop to put the ice cream in the cone himself as he eats to prevent it from dripping all over his hands and body. After taking my order, the man looked at me and took out a cone. I told him again, thinking he didn't hear me, that I wanted a cone on the sid
After taking my order, the man looked at me and took out a cone. I told him again, thinking he didn't hear me, that I wanted a cone on the side. He then motioned for me to go to the cashier. As I was paying, he came over, slammed his hand on the table and said, "Actually this is not allowed." I was taken aback by his actions and asked him, "What do you mean?" He told me, "You have to pay for the cone" and the cashier replied, "I already charged her."
First of all, I don't quite understand why I have to be charged to have a regular waffle cone on the side. I have never heard of this at any of the ice cream parlours I have been to in Hong Kong. Secondly, if there is an extra charge for having the cone on the side, you should post it on the menu or you should tell me when I put in my order. Lastly, before charging me for the cone, the cashier should tell me there is extra charge and tell me the price before automatically charging me for it.
In conclusion, the service was appalling and its food is extremely over-priced. If you are charging $60 for a single scoop with a regular waffle cone on the side, I would expect better service and more customer-staff communication than this.
