Very disappointing French fries

This restaurant had been on my to-go list for quite a while as it was one of the top 4 steak frites restaurants in HK offering authentic French steak frites.  Having done some research on openrice beforehand, we knew that there was basically no choice of what to eat but just how well you would like your steak to be cooked. We both asked for medium rare.

 Baguette and butter arrived shortly. The baguette was very warm and was very crispy. The butter was pretty smooth. This combo was really surprisingly yummy, although they didn't look particularly appealing in the first place.

 There was not much dressing which was quite healthy. I liked the walnuts.

 This was 2 portions of steak. A small candle was used to keep them warm but it didn't seem too useful. Their special house sauce (the yellow one) tasted pretty good with very strong flavour of butter and egg.

 The steak itself was good. We asked for medium rare and they were cooked about right. They were thick and meaty with a lovely char offering a nice crust and smoky flavour. However, they were not tender enough.

 The French fries were ok only, not particularly yummy as many others had commented on openrice. We asked for fries without salt and they really offered it, which we really appreciated. But they were obviously over-deep-fried. Overall their fries just tasted like those offered at McDonald's and those over-cooked fries were just a failure...

 It was included in the set. We wanted to order some other desserts but we weren't given the choice. This apple cake was very moist and cold, just not my cup of tea. 

Overall, the steak itself was good. But when you consider the French fries and dessert, it didn't seem to be worth the price for the lunch set. In short, I won't go back again.
