I want to share the most furious experience I have ever had at any Starbucks in the world. Bravo hkust Starbucks! I took a guest visiting the senior management of the university who speaks Mandarin for after lunch caffeine at this place. We waited in line for our turn before the waiter who spoke Cantonese then switched to english to us. I was shocked by his claim that he could not speak mandarin. But I still asked politely whether we can have somebody who speaks Mandarin to serve us. Then comes
Then comes this guy who treated us with an attitude. Since we were ordering for a group of ten and we were leaving soon so after we were told it’d be a 30-min wait we decided to cancel the order. Then comes the climax- this guy gave us a finger and I’m like what???? I immediately spoke to him in Cantonese asking what the finger was for (你做咩手指指)and he said “ oh it’s not for you” (都唔係指你) — so tell me Starbucks: whether it’s fine as long as the finger 「都唔係指你」 acceptable in your service ????
I find this situation embarrassing, humiliating, and offensive. I totally understand a long queue in front of and behind us makes your staff work under pressure but it is absolutely not appropriate and acceptable to first tell me you CANNOT speak mandarin and second give a finger as a waiter/barista. Please do take this case seriously and I’ll keep filing the complaint until it’s resolved or I am given an apology and explanation.
