The location of Sinmei Tea makes it quite a fuss to visit. There’s not enough time to enjoy the sweet treat no matter in lunch hours or after work (the place closes at 1930). On Saturdays there will be certainly a crowd waiting in the stuffy lift lobby. There is also not much to see in the neighbourhood to make a deliberate visit all the way from home worthwhile. Against these excuses, I found myself waiting in the queue as hubby suddenly suggested going on “a green tea pilgrimage” on Saturday,

We waited for around 35 minutes thinking a few times of leaving before being seated in a dead end corner table in the balcony. We were redirected to another table before ordering, where we could observe the house cat cutely seeking to reclaim her chair upon being lifted away to accommodate a table of four. It was also nice to sit outside in the cool weather.

We ordered Sizzling Matcha Brownie, Banana Pudding with Salted Caramel Sauce, Matcha Soul (matcha, soya milk, almond flakes, honey, sultana and osmanthus) and Matcha Genmaicha Marone (matcha, soya milk, roasted rice tea and chestnut). During the wait for our orders we saw the house cat squeezed to sit with the guest on her chair

The banana pudding was served first. Each spoonful was so rich of banana enhanced with the caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream. It was a real indulgence. Matcha Soul looked like a lake in spring sprinkled with osmanthus petals on top. The light soya milk was a better match with green tea than fresh milk. The hint of honey was also a nice touch, though the sultana was hardly noticeable until finishing the drink. The sizzling matcha brownie followed and the waitress reminded us of the hot plate. After all the photo and video fuss it was scarcely sizzling when the green tea sauce was poured. That sauce was really delectable. I drank it all up though it should not look graceful. The multiple textures of the macadamia nut, green tea sauce, brownie and ice-cream were sensational and interesting. I enjoyed the refreshing roasted taste of rice tea in my Matcha Genmaicha Marone, though the few shreds of chestnut were more a decoration than an ingredient.

The house cat moved to sit near the door on our way out. I enjoy this visit very much and would come again if my patience runs high. The desserts and drinks were well-thought-out and innovative while keeping the natural taste of tea. No wonder they are expanding to Shanghai and even Brisbane. I think their customers will agree with their motto "Life is too short to drink ordinary green tea".
