I have been wanting to come to this restaurant for a really long time and I recently found out a friend of a friend is a member and got to try it out. I admit, the biggest reason I wanted to come was to try their scallion oil noodles 蔥油拌面 as I continue on my quest to find the best one in HK.
I’ll admit we, as a party of 4, ordered quite a lot of food.

煙蛋$25/1
This is actually their most popular dish and it really did not disappoint. Unlike the other ‘smoked eggs’ in HK that are just soft-boiled and marinated. This egg is truly smoked and you can taste it in the texture of the egg white. It’s bouncy, slippery, and softer than the yolk which is neither chalky, jammy, or runny. Truly one of the best eggs I’ve had. It was topped with a generous sprinkle of seasoned salt and was so well-balanced and delicious. I only had half an egg as it’s quite expensive but I could have eaten all 4 halves!

脆皮素鵝(mini) $98
Another appetiser we got was their vegetarian duck. Despite being the ‘mini’ version, it was still enough for us.
Unlike other vegetarian ducks, this did not have carrots or celery, the filling was all mushrooms. Thus, it centralises on umami and a chewy, bouncy texture. This contrasts greatly with fried bean sheets which are crispier than other places as that’s what they prioritise.
I also highly recommend this dish.

蔥油海蜇頭 $108
And another appetiser we got was the jellyfish heads in scallion oil. I don’t know if it’s because they serve the heads as a whole but the texture is very different than what I normally eat. It’s crunchy on the first bite but then slowly melts. Truly bizarre but oh-so-tasty. The scallion oil is not quite strong but still provides moisture and a subtle pungency.

銀芽鱔糊 $200
This is my first time trying this dish and it is really tasty. The part served is the back part of the eel so you don’t get any bones which is the reason why many don’t eat eel.
The texture is tender but chewy, exactly what you expect from Chinese eels. The contrast between the crunchy beansprouts though is what made me take another bite. Covered with this addictive sauce full of wok-hei and is super savoury. It was delicious. I do recommend trying if you are a fan of eels

砂窩魚頭 (half) $190 | 鍋吧 $60
The server recommended this dish as is their signature (actually, they recommended the one with no bones but I like eating bones so toed for this one) and it is definitely interesting and not bad.
I had a similar dish like this in Shen When which is fish head in brown sauce with you tiao and I did nt enjoy the sauce for that dish. However, the one here has its similarities but also has a more peppery-taste and is less overwhelming. Aside from the fish head, it is served soup-like with mung bean noodles, pork belly, shiitake mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. This was rather tasty as they all had unique textures which complemented the sauce. The mung bean noodles are also fresh ones and not the dried thick ones you find in 酸菜魚.
We got. side of plain fried rice puff to dip the sauce in before we knew what the sauce was so we just ate this with the leftover sauteed eels and by itself as it is very crunchy.

蔥油開洋拌面 $68
Now for the reason I came….
The presentation is spot-on with fried scallions on top and dried shrimp. The sauce used is probably the best one I’ve tried in HK, full of soy sauce but doesn’t mask the scallions. The noodles though were slightly disappointing. It is clear that the noodles aren’t hand-made as they are very soft and lack the bite of hand-pulled noodles. This coupled with the fact that the server cut in half before serving meant the noodles easily became tangled and mushed together. I did enjoy the chewy shrimp which added great flavour and texture.
The portion is suitable for 1-2 people because the bowl is small. I would like to try their scallion pancake next time as many people talk about it.

小籠包 $15/1 minimun 4
How can you go to a Shanghai restaurant without getting XLB? The one here had a rather thick skin as it didn’t pop when dropped but was also soft enough so you don’t only taste the dough. The filling is juicy and satisfying. Other than the fact that it could use more soup, it is a typical XLB.

脆皮炸雞(half) $220
For another main, we also got their crispy chicken which seems to be quite popular among the people but we found the breast kinda dry. The thigh was great though. I liked how the skin is crispy without being greasy but would be better if it was thinner. Nice marination on this but so much better with the salt.
By now, we were quite full and wanted to try their desserts so took a few pieces home.

雙毛百頁 $108
My first time trying this dish as I saw this dish from another restaurant and it looks magnificent so ordered it to try. Unfortunately, it arrived rather underwhelming with broken pieces of tofu sheets and loose pickled vegetables.
The test is akin to the presentation; lacklustre and one-dimensional. Perhaps my least favourite dish of the night. Edamame is fresh, tofu sheets are tender, but the pickled vegetables tasted stale. Fortunately, it tasted better when dunked into the soup/sauce from the fish head dish and I was able to finish the dish.

奶油津白 $98
Another vegetable dish we got and we highly regretted ordering this. The cabbage is braised in milk and cream which tasted good and the cabbage was fresh but too filling and heavy! The braising sauce tasted good with the rice puff though 🤭
—— ——
高力豆沙 $15/1
My mom really wanted to try this dish and I’m glad I did. The doughnut is made mostly of egg whites so the exterior is fluffy and chewy with slight moisture and the inside is creamy, sweet, and just a perfect match as the egg white has a strong egg taste but remains a blank canvas which desperately needed the sweet red bean paste.
Next time, I would like to try their pan-fried red bean pancake.

推介 🙆🏻♀️
💬 Overall, a lovely experience here, sadly it is member’s only but ask around, perhaps you are friends with member 🤪The service here is also outstanding due to this elusively; very amicable albeit one particular staff who threw a tissue box on my table when I asked for some napkins. We also ended with some lovely watermelon and cantaloupe at the end which is a very nice touch. The total was $350 pp which is reasonable for the amount of food we got. PS. The tea charge is $16 per person.
