Warm, friendly-looking place on the corner of Sands Street. The decor is 60% of the reason I come here, honestly--very inviting white and yellow color scheme with adorable, supersized gold dots on the walls. On sunny days, sitting at a window seat chatting with family and friends and bathing in the sunlight is just such a lovely way to destress.
This place is always packed on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and late evenings, it seems, but we try to drop by here for dessert during non-peak hours when we don't see people lined up in the front. Sadly, I've never had the house special (Japanese souffle cakes(?)) because I never seem to drop by close to 3, 6 or 9pm, but in any case, their other dessert options are pretty great. I almost always order the hugely aromatic cheese cake with a soft, slightly crunchy outside and a runny, lava-like molten center, but there are two other molten center cake options, chocolate and green tea, which are also very tasty and accompanied by ice cream to boot. In terms of drinks, the green tea latte is quite nice, and the lychee rose tea is a refreshing drink to have on a hot afternoon.
On this particular visit, I ordered the stacked pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries and vanilla ice cream for the first time, and while the pancakes were on the flat side, the cream seemed freshly whipped and light as air, and the strawberries were fresh and plump and not too sweet, adding a little zing to the entire thing.
One minor thing is that the wait can be long (although I get served with food usually within 15 minutes of sitting down, I've spent up to an hour waiting for a pancake and, if you don't have that kind of time and tend to get cranky waiting to dessert, this place may not be for you). The wait staff is obviously not that too well-trained and not too smiley, although they've gotten better since the beginning. Anyway, obviously a family-run place that offers a cozy space for friends to just sit and chat and while away a little time together, with lovely-looking desserts that are sure to please.
