Its another hidden gem in the city. We went there for birthday celebration. Greeted with a warm, genuine smile and departed with one on our own faces! From start to finish the food, service and ambience were amazing. We didn’t know what to expect and we ended up being very well surprised. The food was delicious and a real pleasure to eat. A lot of flavour and very nice presentation. Okra是位於西環的日本居酒屋餐廳,今天吃的Okra Bar位於Okra樓上,主廚Max Levy提供sushi omakase。二樓的餐廳裝修讓人印象深刻,白色瓷磚鋪滿整個吧台和背後的牆體,廚師的工作台也沒有一件多餘的物品。面對吧台,牆上擺了一排各類酒和醋,背後的玻璃櫃子里則擺放了許多主廚喜歡的whisky。入座後開始選酒,主廚推薦了一瓶清酒,風的森。這瓶酒全世界只有300瓶。而他是唯一一家餐廳提供這瓶酒的。跟其他清酒用水和米釀製不同,風的森第一輪釀製用的是十年的清酒和米,第二輪用的是一年的清酒和米,第三輪用的是第一輪的酒和米,因為沒有用碳粉,所以酒體不像大部分清酒那麼清澈,燈光下可以明顯看出黃綠色。加熱後綠色更加明顯。主廚說很多人認為只有差的清酒才會加熱,但他認為品清酒應該像品湯一樣,熱湯更可以凸顯湯的氣味,28-38度才是他推薦的品嘗該酒的溫度。果然風的森加熱後,味道更加濃郁好喝! 第一道Kampachi belly紅甘魚搭配自制的爽嫩豆皮和來自四川的魚子。第二道Zucchini flower西葫蘆花裡包著扇貝,搭配螢光魷魚,白色的醬是發酵雜殼製作而成,深色醬汁里則有蘑菇湯、靈芝

第二道Zucchini flower西葫蘆花裡包著扇貝,搭配螢光魷魚,白色的醬是發酵雜殼製作而成,深色醬汁里則有蘑菇湯、靈芝等成分。主廚花了一些時間解釋這兩個醬,吃的時候醬汁果然獨特。

第三道是醃漬的西紅柿,上面的紫色花是餐廳樓上種植的,搭配蝦黃蛋黃醬。整只西紅柿的菜之前剛在銅鑼灣一家日料店吃過,果然沒有比較就沒有傷害,okra的這道好了太多! 從清甜的番茄本身,到主廚的精心醃制,再到完美的醬汁,增加番茄的滋味又毫不喧賓奪主。整支吃完後,再吃紫色的花,入口後口感青澀,立馬清理掉口腔里番茄濃重的味道。

第四道冷菜是來自日本北部的海膽和海葡萄,搭配fish jelly和seaweed等。 甜美的海膽和海葡萄一起搭配我是第一次遇到,再搭配啫喱,整道菜口感綿密清爽相間,海洋味道十足!

然後就開始上手握壽司,甜蝦是之前第三道製作蝦子醬後剩下的甜蝦,然後是貝類,煙薰三文魚,mackerel秋刀魚,John dory多利魚,吞拿等。

其中印象最深的是kinki喜之次,主廚在我們面前用碳直接燒kinki的表面,製作過程中我們已經可以聞到濃濃的煙薰和kinki的香!這道在製作上可以說是很有特色! 口感上我個人覺得可以再多燒一點,kinki的香味感覺還沒有完全出來。

最後兩片是dry age兩周的吞拿,以及dry aged五周的吞拿。通過ageing,魚里的蛋白髮酵後釋放純天然的MSG,從而加深魚的鮮味。其實新鮮吞拿魚的肉質是相對比較堅硬的,部分壽司店的廚師都會讓魚肉在冰櫃中放置一到三天,從而增加它的鮮味和柔軟度

一共上了11件壽司,用的很多魚都很獨特,一般的壽司店都不太會上這些魚。每件壽司味道都已經配好,雖然和用赤醋飯的重口味不同,但整個系列還是相對比較重口的。

要说的是吃完第一件sushi後我就意識到米飯太多了,我個人認為這個比例已經開始影響味道了。由於壽司上的速度非常快,到第三件的時候我實在受不了了,我第一次主動要求主廚減少米飯,當然,他拒絕了,因為他和我的觀點一樣,飯肉比例可以影響味道。這可能是我吃過米飯比例最高的壽司了,而且上的速度非常快,吃到後面我有點懷疑人生了。但是為了尊重廚師的技藝,我還是都吃完了。事後跟朋友交流,她吃了幾件後就開始胃痛,很難受,我也可以明顯感覺她中間有點吃不下。

熱菜第一道是鰻魚飯,兩片鰻魚,前邊一片是蒸出來的,後面一片是煙薰的。蒸的那片跟我想象的完全不一樣,鰻魚皮非常的香脆!搭配新鮮芥末解膩,這道菜非常完美!

熱菜第二道是靖魚壽司搭配海苔,這道確實稍顯一般,尤其是剛在日本的ginza okamoto吃了那道流連忘返的靖魚壽司,這道感覺靖魚味道不夠濃郁,飯里搭配的揭膩輔料不夠均勻也不夠多。

最後一道甜品是木瓜,搭配紫蘇碎,木瓜的甜和紫蘇的香意外的搭配!但是這個木瓜食材本身不是特別好,感覺質地還比較硬,甜度不夠。水果作為甜品的話,本身的質量和口感還是非常重要的。這道稍顯不足。

這是近期我寫過最長的一篇食評了,因為真的很喜歡這家餐廳,所以對不足之處也毫不隱藏的寫了出來。

這家餐廳的sushi omasake精致独特,非常推荐。

When it first opened Okra had lots of hype with reservations needed in order to get a table. Even though there are less people visiting the food remain outstanding. They serve a Japanese Fusion type of food. The Unagi don and the ribs are always great to have. Unagi don are not usually my favourite but when done right like this, I will take another one please.

我們的注意力一起被這道菜名吸引過去,決定點來一試。看過報導說,主廚曾被這道菜的醬汁驚艷到,認為是「變態」地好吃,所以取了一個這樣的名字。經過age的鴿肉連骨放去炸,用的是日式炸法,意外地鴿肉能保持juicy嫩滑。甜甜的醬汁加上醃過的薑絲,提升了整道菜,使人在炸物的油膩感中回過神來,這樣的味道雖未至於「變態」,卻已是非常不錯了。

燒草飼安格斯牛肩胛 Roast Beef Love Handle
Love Handle?這個英文字的意思是指腰間的贅肉。的確,這幾片牛肉的軟腍程度可媲美腰間的「士啤胎」。生熟程度剛好,是medium rare,牛味充足,配以旁邊燻烤過的蔥段,真是不錯吃。還有幾塊漬物來清清烤肉的油脂感,廚師將這點也考慮進來。

我們還從幾款外國啤酒中要了其中兩款小喝,爽快!Okra的食物份量不多,要吃得飽飽可能還要多叫兩碟,標價也不便宜,屬中上價位,兩個人吃下來6,7百元跑不掉。整體來說我還挺推薦Okra,食物組合新穎,處理得宜。氣氛佳音樂好,還有靚仔外國廚師,來談天最好不過,只稍嫌要大老遠跑來西營盤。知道附近還開了不少好的店子,希望遲些有機會來試試。

因趕時間而附近只有它;最初以為是咖啡室, 原來是一間西日fusion restaurant.Embience:It was lunch time but as the area is not a commercial area the shop was not crowded at all, in fact there were only a couple of ladies at the bar. Already like it with the quiet embience. Food:I had opted for the fried chicken burger with okinawa sweet potato bun; it was so delicious. As a lunch set, so came with miso soup and small dish of mixed veg guerkins. Simply yum yum.

If you are not someone living nearby or someone familiar with this place, you probably will miss this trendy Japanese restaurant. The entrance is not eye-catching & small but the interior is definitely trendy. Together with the fast music, it made me feel young.The lunch menu was not expensive. However there was only us in the restaurant on Friday lunch time. I think the low profile outlook may contribute to this low volume of customers.The menu was little bit confusing. However, I found the Fry Chicken Sandwiche was even better. Besides the nicely fried Chicken leg filet, the sweet & sour sauce definitely highlighted the whole burger. Furthermore, it looked good too.

The waiters & chiefs were also very nice, friendly & caring. They looked smart & trendy too.

Been wanting to try Okra for a while, and despite the hype, was not disappointed!Flavours were all round great. For A sides, we ordered the Dashi peanuts, Brussels sprouts and tomato salad. Thumbs up for all. For B sides, we ordered Oyster rice and fried chicken sandwich. Highly recommend both. Oyster rice was spicy and umami. Fried chicken sandwich was savoury, sweet and satisfying. We also like the music and vibe. They have a Spotify playlist you can listen to and follow after. Service was fri

We also like the music and vibe. They have a Spotify playlist you can listen to and follow after.

Service was friendly, helpful and attentive, albeit a little forgetful. Forgot the drinks and then the sandwich. But both were quickly remedied.

The main downside, as others have noted, is the awkward seating - only bar seats or tables for 2, and all are high bar stools with no back support. Bumping into the person sitting behind you is a regular occurrence.

All-in-all, we will be back!

MUST get the el pollo loco fried chicken samich, tofu dish, spare ribs, and yellowtail. Great service and ambiance. Really loved the plum wine as well. Only downside is i asked the hostess to bring out a surprise bday cake and they forgot.

This is my absolute favourite restaurant and I cannot go often enough. Think I have visited 6 times in 6 months. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and endlessly friendly. I love the menu - amazing sashimi and other  inventive dishes. The tofu dish is standout and I have it every time. It's a small restaurant with mostly counter top seating so best to go as a couple as sitting with 3 or 4 friends in one line isn't as comfortable. Prices are medium high but 100% worth it in my opinion.

This is my absolute favourite restaurant and I cannot go often enough. Think I have visited 6 times in 6 months. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and endlessly friendly. I love the menu - amazing sashimi and other  inventive dishes. The tofu dish is standout and I have it every time. The reason that I know this restaurant is because of Wine & Dine in Oct 2016. I think it is Mark Levy that gave the speech about sake and food pairing and that tasting session did expand my food pairing dictionary. Recalling the tasting session in Wine & Dine, the two most striking sensation to my palate is the "Crispy fried chicken" and the "honey miso foie gras", which both paired very well with sake. I want to reproduce that palate harmony and introduce this taste to my partner and that's why

I would not say it is super spacious. Seats without back rest might be a problem if you are looking for super comfy chair.

Menu in English, Chinese and Japanese. Cute little handkerchief wrapping a hexagon shaped chopsticks gave a bit of style to the restaurant. Table size were also limited if you want to order 3 or more dishes at the same time. 

Let's talk breifly about the sake before we move on to the food. We ordered two sake recommended by the staff - "Kawanakajima" and" kaze no mori Kinuhikari". The "Kawanakajima" was the "sweeter" one that the staff recommended. I think in terms of residual sugar, kawanakajima, by definition, wasn't define as "sweet sake", but it did gave a rich green apple aromas that kind of smelled sweet. The interesting part of this sake is that it gave fine bubbles that looks and tastes like a sparkling wine. With the nature of sake and the additional green apple aromas, I am excited to pair this with the food. "Kaze no mori Kinuhikari" had interesting exotic fruity aromas which is distinct from "kawanakajima". Refreshing tone with a hint of lingering sweetness. This crisp daiginjo definately will pair well with many japanese food.

Hentai in japanese has two meaning  -"change form" or "pervert". I only know pigeon in japanese is called "Hato" and maybe the "H" and "T" hinted towards the "Hentai" as japanese like to play on phonics and words (or may be pigeons are actually pervert?.. haha). Anyway, this crispy fried pigeon maintained a lot of  "karaage" taste, a japanese style of deep fried technique. The marinated ginger plays an important role in this dish and the sweet based sauce is also nicely done.The pigeon's meat won't be clustered after the crispy fried process and the meats were juicy and tender. Interesting fusion using pigeon and it is a 5 stars from me.

Using "Love Handle" is a nice way to imply the beef flank is "fatty". This grass fed black angus has intense beef taste with beefy texture. I wouldn't say the beef was heavily marinated paired very nicely with the spring onions, which has deep smoky aromas. Pickled veg wasn't my first choice but these wasn't too bad. For this dish, you can mix and match to become "normal beef", "pickled beef" or "smoky beef", all of which paired nicely with the sake and we both agreed that the "smoky beef" was the best.

The piece of meat wasn't "baby" at all because each bite was mouthful chunk of meat which was very satisfying. Spread of yuzu sauce gave good citrus aromas and balanced well with the pork fat. However, the meat wasn't that tender as you might expect from a "baby ribs". Pickled celery was borderline, not my cup of tea.

This is the dish of the day!! The Unagi (eel) has nice balance of saltiness and sweetness and was super soft!!! The honey and miso marinated foie gras is exactly what i tasted!! Melting texture of  foir gras with lingering sweetness is not something you taste often. If I were to choose one word to describe this dish, it must be "umami"!

This is a cured skipjack tuna, fresh colour, firm texture and smoky aromas. The wasabi like paste is actually yuzu kosho, a mix of chilli pepper, salt and yuzu skin, which gave additional "smoky" taste. Garlic wasn't that garlicy but this dish gave a good strong flavour as an ending dish for the night.  All the dishes paired well with the sake we ordered. 
If you are looking for traditional japanese food, it's a No.

If you are looking for a romantic dinner, it's also a No.If you are looking for fine-dining, it is also a No.

However, the "tapas" like fusion has a lot of "japanese taste" within the cooking style,  so, if you looking for something new apart from traditional japanese food, it's a Yes. (at least for those I gave 5 stars). And more importantly, it is a good place for you to try sake food pairing as well. I really appreciated the food but taking account to the portion, I would still consider it is a bit pricy even they "do not include service charge".

Loved the Japanese nouveau cuisine here. The burned rice was delicious, as was every sauce, flavoring, and cut of seafood we had (although personally we didn't like the aged fatty tuna they had when we went). It's not good for more than two people, though, you won't be able to face each other as there are no 4-top tables. Worth it!
