what a chill Saturday afternoon with that UK beer “Tetleys” and some spring rolls. It’s a veggie spring rolls… it looks simply but very impressive after a bite! feeling so nice to sitting at that “half open area to the windows” for a relaxing weekend afternoon. and it’s a really good angle for photo taking.

專程入來西貢找這家小店，主要是為了它的 Pie! 老實說，在 openrice 説自己是英式食肆的相當多，但一般除了供應 fish & chip 或 all day breakfast 之外，大部分店子其實「就係得咁多」，而這家英式酒吧，竟然有英式 Pie, 坦白說，我在尖沙咀銅鑼灣也難找得到來吃。原來這店的 Pie, 除了 Chicken & Mushroom Pie 較常有供應之外，其他的仍要碰碰運氣。幾日前，打電話來問說有 Pukka Pie, 但去到结果沒有了，變成 Steak and Kidney Pie, 沒關係，也不錯！這間始終是酒吧，不是餐廳，因此食物供應的款式始終有限！亦因為它始終是酒吧，沒理由在此不喝酒。我叫了兩 round, 第一杯叫了「長島冰茶」開開胃，第二杯唱黑啤，英國吧嘛！

When I saw the name of this place on OpenRice, I did not expect it to be a pub because the name Poets is more like a Cafe or classy restaurant.Anyway, decided to go in and try their pies because of ChanJan's review.When I got there, it was quiet and clean inside.The waitress had disappeared somewhere so I had to wait for a bit.When she came back I asked her what the daily pie was and she said it was steak and kidney so I ordered it.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Steak and kidney pie:When it arrived, it looked like a Mexican bun.Inside the pie, there was lots of succulent pieces of beef and gravy.The pie was piping hot but the centre of the filling was still icy.Since I do not really eat beef I was too lazy to complain.But the rest of the pie and gravy was delicious because the gravy was really rich and you could taste fine bits of kidney and liver.The pastry was really really flakey just like a vol u vont.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★Pickled egg:The pickled egg was pickled right through to the yolk, the yolk was quite vinegary too.The size of the yolk was big too compared to other eggs, there was not much egg white as I hoped.The egg white was really nice because it was really sour and the pickled yolk was really silky.★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

眾多人口中的西貢，只是食海鮮，食大餐。這一個小小的漁港，其實也是一個國際美食的集中地，當中，也有不少西餐廳，於西貢發跡，之後可以說開到成行成市，大家可以以 Jasper，Pisano，Okapi 為例，西貢西餐廳的質素，一向都是非常之有水準的。前一陣子，讓我看中了一家酒吧，是一家令我感覺親切的英式酒吧，而名字也是可愛的，前身叫 Odd Fellars，如今叫 Poets，非常之有詩意。高凳子圍著吧檯，賣的是英國流行的啤酒品牌，當然也有香港的生力啤啦，這酒吧有少少時尚感，但也保留了傳統的英式風格。這樣子的酒吧，一定會令到老外感覺特別的 home。 我要的啤酒，也是英國人愛好，在英國的酒吧內常常看到的 Stella Artois，簡稱 Stella。Stella，不是英國啤，是比利時的啤酒，酒精度比較濃烈，但麥味就不是太濃，是一個苦口，甘甘地的啤酒，濃味的 Lager 啤酒，越凍是越好飲的。 來這兒的目的，是為了英式焗批，是某一天我路經此店時看見黑版上寫著 home made pie 而令我的心興奮起來。我入來後，第一句說的話是 half pint Stella，第二句話是 what is today's pie。是日的 pie ，有兩個選擇，另一個選擇忘記了，因為我一聽到第一選擇時，Steak and Kidney Pie，未聽晒介紹，心目中已選好了。我就來一份 Steak and Kidney Pie with chips and beans。薯條同茄豆都是熱熱的，很是好食。但是日的午餐主角是批，我主要點評的，也是這一個又大又酥香的 Steak and Kidney Pie。皮，是一個很特別的酥皮，有別於英國速食店時常看見的 Pukka Pie 或 Hollands Pie，這一個巨型的 Pie，絕對是真正的 home made。這批也是新鮮的生焗，做批的麵粉該是含有發粉吧，這批不均勻地在其中一角凸起了，完全是家庭製作的不拘小節，我喜歡。 用力用刀用叉切開這一個批，皮雖然是厚的一點，但頂層的酥化感，是由頂一直伸延到皮底的，濃濃的 gravy 燒汁，啖啖的牛肉粒及豬腰粒，味道是濃烈的，食英國的批就是要充滿這一些濃濃烈烈的肉汁香味，感覺才有趣，而這濃味是一直保留在批的內部，沒有燒漿，沒有流出，完完全全的封鎖在這一層酥皮入面，這一種外面香，裡面更香的味道，就是英式 pie 的誘人之處。 在香港，不是經常性可以吃到這樣的一個既傳統又美味的英國批，香口加上香口，英國的批，很飽，很 full，很肉，也好好食。是一個一試難忘的好味道。
