Date dined: 8th April 2010
Food: Golden Pillow (Bread with curry chicken inside); Pad thai; Papaya salad; Thousand layer coconut pudding
Taste: The Golden pillow definately looked good. It was quite a big portion. It is a baked bread sliced with curry clams inside. As we do not eat seafood, we asked to change the Curry clams into Curry chicken. The bread was steaming hot , very crispy but soft inside. The curry was quite sweet, not spicey at all. I would have preffered it less sweet and bit more herbs. But the bread was perfect and was enjoyable dipping it into the curry. Did not even need to eat the chicken. We ordered the King Prawn Pad Thai, but we changed the King prawn to chicken once again. It was very attractive, esp how they fried the egg into a net and cover the noodles. The pad Thai atsted 70 percent alike what I have tasted in Thailand, quite authentic. Much better than the ones I have tasted in kowloon City which is meant to be the place you go to if you want to eat traditional Thai food. The noodles tasted just right, with moist. The Papaya salad was good, it was quite spicey, but made me eat more. Very refreshing. for dessert I also ordered the Thousand layer Coconut pudding. It was quite shocking it came ou boiling hot. I had to let it cool abit before digging into it. It was my first time eating a hot pudding. But the taste was good, and texture was superb. Not too squashy, but chewy which is what I like.
Environment It was sucha a nice place. Very dim, which makes it a good place to chit chat or to have a "no-rushing" dinner. It's quite nice decorated, with wooden chairs and table, with the bar table at the front where you could dine aswel. what I actually thought that was quite impressive was there was an outdr garden. Although I did not have a chance to have a look outside, it looked quite relaxing, and i heard laughters from outside. For their price, the environment is a bargain, althought the tables are still closely packed next to each other, but hey what do you expect, this is HK.
Services: All the waitresses are not from HK, they are thai i suspect which is quite good. Which makes it more authentic. I was seated quite quickly and was given two cups of water straight away and the menu. The lady was quite polite and patient, as I asked to change quite alot of stuff on my order. She pleasently did so without any hassle
Location: It is right by President Theatre in CWB. If you come from the back door of Sogo. Keep walking til you see seven eleven, turn right. Keep walking down the road you will see Ireland's Potatoe, keep walking til you see President Theatre. Thai simple will be next to the theatre and you will need to hop into the lift.
OVERALL: I think it is the best Thai food I have had in Hong Kong. Everyone rave about the Thai food in kowloon City, but from what i have tasted, I think this place is much better. Price is reasonable, and the best thing is, you do not need to travel all way to Kowloon City, saves time. The environment and mood here is much better than Kowloon City, in Kowloon City most places, you feel like ur eating in "dai pai dong" or markets. Not comfortable and its too rushed, you feel like you need to eat as quickly as possible. But here, you could sit back, relax and enjoy your dinner without the bill thrown at you rushing you to leave. I liked this place so much I came bk the week after
