First time eating dinner here, the dinner menu has less sets compared to their lunch menu but more a la carte options. Booked a table for 18:00 and arrived a few minutes late. The restaurant was completely vacant and very relaxing to be in. I wanted to order their Salmon Shioyaki Set but that’s only available during lunch time 😞. So settled for a Japanese classic, Stir-fry Pork with Ginger. I also added $58 for the set updated which included starters: an additional salad and side dish. For salad
For salad I chose the Okinawa Bitter Melon Tofu Salad (冲绳苦瓜有机豆腐沙律) instead of the Fried Chicken Salad (和风炸鸡沙律) and for side dish I chose the Sashimi (二品刺身: 三文鱼、带子、甜虾) instead of a snack choice of Beef Croquette (牛肉薯饼) or Cheesy Rice Cake (芝士年糕)
The starters arrived around 10 minutes after I placed order which is a bit surprising as we were the only customers 😅. And the main courses arrived 10 minutes after that.
Okinawa Bitter Melon Tofu Salad (冲绳苦瓜有机豆腐沙律)
The potion was fitting for the price. Many pieces of Bitter Melon and all of them was crunchy and refreshing. The Japanese salad dressing helped reduce the bitterness of the melon and instead made it sweeter. The tofu was very soft and silky. The salad leaves were just your typical Japanese salad blend.
Sashimi (二品刺身: 三文鱼、带子、甜虾)
I am a huge fan of their salmon sashimi, Im always satisfied with their salmon on my rice bowls so the salmon sashimi here definitely met up to my expectations. Im truly shocked to receive such a plump and tender piece of salmon for this price, and for 2 pieces as well?! I definitely recommend their salmon sashimi.
The scallop was decent, not very big and plump but still sweet enough.
The sweet shrimp is bigger than the ones they give you on the rice bowls and definitely much sweeter too. Also appreciated how there was still a lot of 虾膏 in the head for me to suck out 🥰😋.
Stir Fried Pork in Ginger Sauce Set (豚肉生姜烧定食) $98
Very fragrant when arrived, the ginger and soy aroma infiltrated my nose the second it was above the table.
I was immediately pleased with the Japanese style they plated in, with a big bowl of rice and the dish on the side, accompanied by the soup and appetizers.
There was plenty of ginger with shallots, leeks and bean sprouts. And by plenty I mean I could have eaten it alone and with rice and with pork and I would still have some to spare.
The sauce was very thin but extremely flavorful and delicious with rice as it has well coated the pork and ginger. I don’t recommend pouring sauce directly onto the rice as it can be too intense. Simply use the pork or ginger as a vessel for the sauce and lightly dab it over the rice or eat it together with the rice.
The pork was thin but tender, some required more bite but it was still moist thanks to the sauce. There was a lot of pork as well, the smaller pieces had some tendons that was really chewy and perfect with rice.
Eating rice with the pork, ginger, bean sprouts and shallots was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend this meal. I also recommend eating the ginger with the rice alone first before having some pork as its absolutely delicious and the pork won’t weigh down your mouth too much.
My only improvement for this would be to put the pork-ginger in a smaller bowl instead of a big plate so all the sauce can continue to soak into the pork and make it seem like there is a bigger portion of it 🤪.
The appetizers for this was pickled vegetables and a mind blowing pickled bitter melon with plum.
The pickled vegetables definitely needs improvement on as the size and thickness of each was different. The taste was of average and not that memorable.
The pickled bitter melon with plum however was absolutely delicious and a thrilling experience. The bitter melon was crunchy and refreshing with only a hint of bitterness as it has been pickled. The plum taste was very strong but also mild. There was a light sourness and tartness that helped opened my appetite. The size was also quite thick and enough even though there was only one piece.
We left at around 7 and there was around 5 tables occupied. The service was really nice as well, the waitress was friendly when taking our orders and very active in refilling our teas.
This restaurant is walking distance from home and I can’t wait to try more of their food and to share this restaurant with the rest of Hong Kong!
