Went for early dinner tonight...thought it was weird that the hostess table was just a shelf...later on realized that there isn't even a hostess. Whichever waiter or waitress was available or closest to the door would bring the guests to their table. Usually that isn't a big problem, but when it interferes with the quality of service at the table, IT IS.My mom and I went had an early dinner and we order 3 different dishes. My mom and I went had an early dinner and we order 3 different dishes. Shrimp cakes, Thai Roasted Chicken and the Pork fried Hor fun noodles. The noodles came first, which was kind of peculiar since its an entree. But it was quite good, a little on the salty side but very tasty. It was also very saucy. Few minutes later came along, the chicken and shrimp cake arrived. The cake was very salty and tough...it was really dense. Is it possible to overcook shrimp? Maybe that's why it was tough. The presentation of the chicken was below average. I believe it was seasoned with lemongrass and ginger, but can't really taste the flavors. The skin of the chicken was more burnt than golden. The chicken was dry too. Overall, the noodles were the best. Not really what I imagined for a swanky restaurant like this (judging from the interior decor..).
Another thing that really bugged me was the fact that when I asked for water to drink, immediately the waiter asked me if I wanted still or sparkling. Perhaps I was foolish to assume those were my only options and later found out that there was normal water...free of charge...
Service was good at the beginning before we ordered, but afterwards it was absent. I had long finished my beverage and no one had come and ask if I wanted more. Our waiter was working all the tables from where we sat (halfway inside) to the tables at the entrance of the restaurant. Maybe that's why he wasn't as attentive...I don't blame him but I do blame management. Usually at the end of the meal after the check is paid, the manager thanks you and welcomes you to come back...unfortunately that WAS NOT the case at Thai Basil. Maybe the manager thought my tip wasn't enough, but honestly if your service was excellent, the tip would have been higher.
This dining experience was not memorable or worth recommending.
