Happy to see this open after some anticipation. I first became aware of Il Caffe after hiring a suit and a few shirts made from Il Sarto by the same owner. I did lengthy research into finding the best quality tailor and happy to report that the quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail extends to his restaurant ventures. I've heard from employees that the owner refused to open his tailor shop until every detail was perfect. Rumour was that it took weeks to find the perfect chair to put in
The coffee : Their own selected beans as I've read. Very high quality and a great taste. I like to drink black "American style" coffee as I find it's the best way to taste the actual coffee instead of all the "junk" people like to put into their cup. It was a very nice brew, I would put it on the upper end of a mild tasting infusion with a pleasant finish, easy to drink. Highly recommended.
The food : VERY extensive menu for a little coffee shop! Italian themed, mostly. Great breakfast choices (lunch and dinner too) so I went for the "Il Cafe Breakfast". It was very fresh and well presented.
The service : I was welcomed at the door with big smiles. Very inviting and welcoming staff. They were quite attentive without being overbearing. I was very happy overall with the service with just one MINOR comment. The "Il Caffe" breakfast came with a choice of toast or croissant and eggs to order. I didn't specify a choice and the waitress, although kind as could be, forgot to ask. However, the plate came out exactly as pictured on the menu, croissant and scrambled eggs so you can't really fault them for false advertisement! As I said, overall the service was very good. I'll be back soon for sure.
They also have another location near Queens that I have visited and found to be just as great. This new one is super close to my flat though so I'll be patroning this one in off Aberdeen St from now on.
Go check it out!
