Context. Let that sink in for a moment. A lot of people in the reviews below say "I'm from Australia/ Canadia/ Southern California and these sandwiches aren't as good as the one's we get at home..." Let's grant that that's true. But also let's be aware that Australia is an 8 hour plane flight away, and that there's no reason to go to Canadia even if it were close. This is what we've got, and considering what I've had in Hong Kong, Tim Kee's sandwiches are the best.

Of course, I'm from an area of the US where there ain't no Vietnamese baguettes, and I've never been to Vietnam, and in fact I've only had the sandwiches here. So for me, there's definitely no disappointment. My expectations coming in are shaped largely by places like Nha Trang, which wouldn't know what a sandwich was if it sold them off its menu. Which it doesn't and does, respectively.

And here's a closer look. I liked the baguette, I loved how crispy it was and the fact that I was covered in baguette sprinklings by the time I finished. There's Vietnamese sausage in there and pate and apparently pork knuckle and something else. I didn't find the meat dry as a number of others did, but rather quite fatty and warm. At some point I ran across an inedible thing of some sort, but on the whole I enjoyed it. The carrots were limpid and there was no daikon radish. I've taken to making these at home and mine are slathered in Sriracha. Don't know if that's authentic, but let me suggest it, in the unlikely event the owners/ operators of Tim Kee are reading my blather.

I don't know if you've noticed this but a decent sandwich of any sort is nigh-impossible to find in Hong Kong. I regularly eat at Subway, which is not something I'd wilfully do if I had better options. The stuff at Tim Kee isn't mind-blowing, but if you've tried any of its competitors (you know, the ones that aren't in Australia), you'd see that this was the best in town. In context, I'll take it.
