Hidden in heritage building of Tai Kwun, Cantina is an upscale "canteen" serving Italian flavours. From the ambience to the menu, it's a decent place for a night out.The tasting menu begins with appetisers: "Baby octopus with pears in spicy tomato sauce" was a standout, followed by "Lollo rossa lettuce and watercress salad with pear, goat cheese & duck speck".For Pasta, we loved the "Cavatelli w/ braised pork ribs, beef and fennel sausage ragu" slightly more than the "Rigatoni w/ artichokes , Gu
The tasting menu begins with appetisers: "Baby octopus with pears in spicy tomato sauce" was a standout, followed by "Lollo rossa lettuce and watercress salad with pear, goat cheese & duck speck".
For Pasta, we loved the "Cavatelli w/ braised pork ribs, beef and fennel sausage ragu" slightly more than the "Rigatoni w/ artichokes , Guanciale ham & Pecorino cheese".
The signature has to be "Breaded veal cutlet elephant ear w/ fried rosemary & sea salt". Love the texture and execution of the breading, would be perfect if the veal was thicker & juicier.
Desserts were another climax: "Canollo" - the lovely pastry roll from Sicily filled with a cheesy ricotta & pistachio. And, the "must-have" Tiramisu with ladyfingers, mascarpone & cocoa powder assembled table-side.
Overall, for just $498+pp, really solid given its location and vibe. We went for a drink at The Dispensary Bar next door after the dinner as well!
