Tired to go chain sushi restaurant and my friend said near her home Mei Foo got a decent Japanese Restaurant “Gaki” , join with her and try.Size not too big bit feel close and warm, we ordered the following: Sashimi set ($138) , Sashimi Don ($118), Sea Urchin ($128) and Barbecue Hamachi head with salt ($148)Big surprise when the sashimi set came, portion is big with “thick-cut”! Big surprise when the sashimi set came, portion is big with “thick-cut”! Salmon, Hamachi and Scallop are fresh and sweet, and the temperature is just good as sometime other restaurant serve the half-frozen sashimi with no taste. Octopus is cut in thin slices to make it easy to chew, good skill. Urchin is fresh with some sea water smell, not too salty and best to serve along with seaweed, so juicy inside the mouth.
Another surprise came for the sashimi don: The bowl is fully covered by sashimi and can’t see any rice! Taste of sashimi are as good as the set, and finally I added some urchin to mix with the rice and finish all!
After the sashimi we took the cooked one. The Hamachi head is well roasted and only added salt for taste. If you are a fish lover this is a must try item, I spend 20 minutes to finish every fresh and jelly inside the head. Not as sweet as sashimi but the warm taste of fish oil inside along with salt is even more memorable!
Spent ~300 per head but the taste is good, portion is big and more important in a comfort and not rush place, will come again.
