We rejoiced when I read about La Creperie opened in HK. We have always been fans of French pancakes and several restaurants had opened and closed including the Rendezvous which opened in various places including Happy Valley and Soho and closed a few years back. I kicked myself for not noticing as I pass by La Creperie every day to and from work, but since it is on the 1/F instead of G/F, I never saw it.The first time we went, we didn't book a table and was told that there wouldn't be anything f
The first time we went, we didn't book a table and was told that there wouldn't be anything for 45 mins. So we reluctantly moved to Sputini, the Italian restaurant opposite on a the slope and didn't regret. This time, we came prepared and I booked a table for 8:45pm. Perhaps it was late and perhaps it was raining but the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived. We ordered a savoury crepe each and a cup of cider to share as it was highly recommended by the French manager. We don't normally drink but thought a cup between the 3 of us would be nothing. The cider was quite sweet and very refreshing, not strong in alcohol and very easy to drink.
My crepe came rolled up and the filling was bacon, mixed mushrooms and asparagus. The white sauce was not too rich and the mushrooms had a good texture. All the crepes came with salad and I didn't like the mustard dressing, so the waitress suggested just a little olive oil which was fine.
My daughter's ham, cheese and egg was an open crepe and although it was very tasty, she found it too filling and rich. She didn't want to order dessert after it.
My husband's came much later, by that time I had almost finished mine. His had also bacon but in slices rather than lardon like mine and he had mushrooms too. He liked his but found the bacon a bit too salty.
Two of us went on for a sweet pancake. My husband ordered lemon and sugar and I ordered stewed apple with salty butter caramel. I didn't tast the sugar and lemon but mine was delicious, both the stewed apples and caramel were the right sweetness and went well together. My daughter had by this time regained her appetite and we shared my dessert.
We rejoiced that crepe is back in HK and vowed to come back soon with our other daughter.
