I was having a pleasant day trip with my family in Macau where everything was fine UNTIL we stopped visiting and eating in hotel restaurants and start venturing into those "local" shop-lots for meals and finger foods. And they are not hawker joints, but decent eateries that charges you services charges for your their so called "services"
And Bitter Sweet is one of the worse few that we visited although we purposely made our trip down there upon reading it on the HK newpapers where they were listed as one of the "MUST TRY'S" in Macau. To sum it all,
1. Service was BEYOND ABYSMAL
All the waiting staff looks extremely grim until the moment that we decide to take our orders. Basically we were treated as "nuisances" until we start to make orders and they are sure that we are there to eat, not just there to take up their space for fun.. I mean what were they thinking? We came in a group of four and they ran out of tables for four, so we requested that the waiter put 2 tables-for-2 together so that we can sit together and there we have it, THE GRIM FACE WHERE IT LOOKS LIKE WE'VE JUST ASKED HIM TO DO THE MOST DIFFICULT TASK IN HIS LIFE!
Although there are just 2 others tables at that time, the waiting staffs prefer to coop around at the cash register, having a good chat rather than serving us. My dad had to wave his wrist off until the waiting staff reluctantly come over to take our orders.
Conclusion: I have never felt so bad paying service charge for my food before.
2. Pay $15 for each pax that is not ordering
So if I am not eating or if I plan to order 2-3 servings to be shared among four, I have to pay extra $15 for that, even if I am too full over dinner where I am just here to have some light post-dinner refreshments? So, we had to order four serves of dessert which we cannot finish.
3. Nothing out of the ordinary
Not as good as mentioned by the critics, or they actually tasted bad. Feels like I am eating fruit flavour toothpaste on one dessert I forgot what's the name (Goodness, I can't even bother remembering the name of the dessert I ordered). I have definitely eaten better desserts at Hui Lao Shan. So the desserts are nothing worth making a big HOOHAA out of, so we're starting to doubt the credibility of the food critics on the newspaper.
Conclusion = NOT WORTH GOING! Don't be fooled by the food critics on the newspaper.
