I usually visit the Kam Tin Wealth Banquet for dim sum, but this time my husband and I came for dinner. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant now had outdoor seating, but in spite of the beautiful spring weather, we couldn't sit al fresco because there were only two of us and Wealth Banquet only had larger tables available. Plus the section was intended for smokers, not for people who just, you know, like to sit outside for no reason. We ordered three dishes to share, a bowl of rice
We ordered three dishes to share, a bowl of rice each, and drank only the restaurant's complimentary hot tea. Unfortunately, we did wait some time for our dishes to come out--Wealth Banquet is normally quite prompt--but our server noticed and went into the kitchen to chase them down. I have to ding them for the review but know that their service is generally comparable with that of other, similar restaurants.
I'll start with my favorite dish, which was the claypot fried chicken with taro. It came out piping hot, full of flavor from the celery, lemongrass and garlic. The coconut milk and chicken broth was too good to leave sitting and wound up mixed with the rice. I wish they'd deliver this comfort food to my house on a cold, rainy day.
