Newly opened sister shop of Kappo Roann fusing sushi with kappo cuisine. 10 counter seats and 3 tables on the side. Counter was fully seated on the night of our visit with Japanese diners conversing with Sonoda San. Server was incredibly friendly and attentive. To top it off, Sonoda San’s wife appeared around 9ish in a kimono to help with the service. Loved the vibe and ambience. Omakase menu from 7 pm to 9:30 pm and a la carte kappo menu from 9:30 pm to 2 am. While we were more interested to try dishes from the a la carte menu, we had no choice but to order the omakase menu as we were there around 7.Kegani to start. Delectably fresh and sweet.金時鯛魚Katsuo 鰹魚 and 羽太蓮根饅頭 My favourite of the meal. Piping hot and gelatinous to the bite. A dish of surprising flavours and textural juxtaposition🤯金目鯛 一夜干 with bitter melon in house fermented soy sauce熊本黒毛和牛『和王」Wagyu Beef Cutlets from Kumamoto of Kyushu Prefecture. Light breaded exterior and tender and flavourful interior.Sushi to follow. Chutoro and 梅色魚Iwashi and Tai 黑睦 and akamiSanma and uniThe most anticipated hour 9:30 came and we couldn’t resist ordering one item off their a la carte menu though we were full to the brim. Friend picked Creamy crab croquette. It was deliciously done.Overall Sonoda San’s strength lies in Kappo. For me, all otsumami, particularly the 蓮根饅頭,were off the charts delicious 😮💨😮💨😮💨 Sushi was fine but the shari was a bit too moist and vinegary for my taste. Most importantly the otsumami out shone them all. Will definitely return for the a la carte menu!!
