Surprisingly, I discovered that Hong Kong has virtually no good Omu-Rice (オムライス) availability. However to be fair, even within Japan, there are also thousands of average or even poor quality Omelette-Rice too, I've eaten my fair share of those poorer ones when I used to live/work in Japan and explored around, so I know that not every omu-rice in Japan are too good either! Locally, there has been a scarce spotting of authentic Versions that I've found so far and unsurprisingly, they're all coo

Out of all of these, 岡田咖啡's version is quite authentic and in fact is above-average standards even relative to most Japanese shops - it has a full egg wrapping which is smooth, cooked right and nearly wraps around the rice - the most authentic way to do it and very hard to make, although please note that even in Japan, Omu-rice DOES NOT fully wrap around the rice, unless its the pointed edges - so please don't judge Omurice on that. Unfortunately, Okada Coffee's rice quality lets it down slightly. And obviously, you do not expect to be able to eat the Full-On Version B Omu-rice version in HK! Which is an omelette not wrapped around the rice but sits on top, but when you cut along the middle line, it flips over and inverts itself automatically. Very very few restaurants in Japan supplies this Omu-rice version as it takes an expert to make, although the link I gave you above has a twist, because apparently you can buy them pre-packed like that lol!

CURRY KATSU OMURICE -
Obviously I had no expectations of the one here and it didn't fail to not disappoint! In fact I've already tried this dish here 3 times over the year, just never took photos until the 3rd time! For around $44, surely you don't expect a high quality. Anyway the pork here was very small and a little hard, the batter coating outside won't be the ultra-long pointy, panko crumbs version! The Omu-rice itself, was just a very thin Egg Crepe that is barely wrapped around that very white rice, rather than a Chicken Rice which is the most authentic type.
Anyway, I guess if you want the highest quality Omu-rice, you'll need to visit the most famous shops in Japan and I still remember some pretty good experiences from those! For the time being, I guess 岡田咖啡 and Niji Bistro are still authentically Japanese-洋食 enough, better than a lot of shops in Japan already, but still they're just not overly perfect in taste yet.
