Haven't visited this place for ages but as we needed a quick dinner in Sheung Wan, we simply thought this joint would be as good as any other.
We arrived at about 7pm. This place was 70% occupied unlike during lunch hours, which was good as we could choose the table we wanted without needing to share with other diners.
A quick look at the menu revealed that nothing much had changed in the last decade with the exception of the prices.
I knew from experience that if I ordered plain wonton noodles with soup from this place, my bladder would get irritated for at least 2 days. So I went for stirred noodles sprinkled with kidneys plus ginger and garlic while my friend had a beef congee with liver. As he didn't make any comments on the congee, I really could not say whether he enjoyed it or not.
As for mine, nothing positive could be said. The noodles were tasteless, chewy on the side of being hard and devoid of any flavour. The kidneys must have been soaked in soda water for much too long, they were bleached, lacked texture and contained absolutely no taste whatsoever. Until I flushed my mouth and lips with water, the taste of 3rd grade commercial cooking oil used in the noodles were still lingering there.
How times have changed! This used to be one of my favourites for wonton noodles but it has repeatedly failed me in recent years. This visit was probably the final one that sealed my impression of this place.
