A Victoria cake is also known as the Victoria sandwich or Victoria Sponge cake is basically two layers of sponge cake with raspberry/strawberry jam and whipped double cream or vanilla cream in the middle.

The one at Maxim’s doesn’t quite look like a Victoria cake because it is topped with berries and these berries are probably there to make it worth $80 (small)/$148 (large).

 Frankly $80 is overpriced and in general ALL bakeries in Hong Kong are overpriced.
You can get Victoria cakes for around HKD$20-40 in the UK and the high-end cakes are still cheaper than Hong Kong.

There were two Victoria cakes, a chocolate version and a Vanilla version but to be honest, there is no such thing as a Chocolate Victoria cake although it may be a modern thing.

 Anyway, I didn’t have any expectations because most of their cakes are local style but I tried both anyway.

 Pretty good with decent cream but the jam was in the middle and not evenly distributed.
The sponge cake was light and fluffy.

 I would have given top marks for this cake if it wasn’t for the silly strawberries on top and the stupid biscuit base.

 Evidently a delicious Black Forest cake filled with delicious cherries in the middle which tastes better than their so-called Black Forest cakes that they sell!

Currently there are 1,600 paper mache pandas designed by Paulo Grangeon on a world tour.  This is basically a Rocky road cake in the shape of a white dome decorated with chocolate ears and eyes.
The outer layer is vanilla mousse with another layer of of cake beneath it.
In the middle, it is filled with hazelnuts, marshmallows and crispy chocolate on a bed of light sponge cake with a hard biscuit base.

 It was surprisingly nice because the vanilla mousse was not too sweet with soft cake in the middle and yummy marshmallows.
Children are going to love the marshmallows and hazelnut bits in the middle.

 I was looking forward to the chocolate jelly but it turns out that it was milk pudding at the bottom and chocolate sponge cake in the middle.

 Even though it was milk pudding, it was actually quite nice because it balanced the sweetness of the chocolate mousse.

     Basically there was a strawberry chocolate base that was part of the bottom half of the pillow, in the middle it was soft cake with fresh strawberry slices and strawberry mousse.

     The mousse was light complemented by the strawberry slices.
    On top of the cake, it was decorated with a pretty jewellery box containing a diamond made from white chocolate.

       今日好想吃合桃曲奇包,所以買下了當早餐吃~合桃曲奇包今次麵包中的合桃粒無之前咁大粒,比較碎切~但味道仍是很好吃呢!果然有少少合桃曲奇的味道所在~又唔會油膩!非常喜歡~朱古力排包很美味~而且新鮮~軟林林的麵包!朱古力味突出!!職員的服務態度不錯,收銀效率又高~

      一向覺得美心既西餅都係大路貨，一個字「普通」。而上次推出既RAINBOW系列簡直你抄足M's B 既CAKE， 令的更加看不起。不過，這一次大事宣傳既CHESTNUT蛋糕，真係令人有驚喜。CHESTNUT 味好重， 不會過甜，味道很合。因為很足忌廉同CHESTNUT蓉，而令到不容易發覺平時美心既海綿蛋糕部份乾乾的。 底部既脆脆雖然不太脆，但係整體配合到不同既口感，很不錯。上次對美心蛋糕心動時已經是天使蛋糕初出道時！ 已經幾年前既事，不過，這個係季節性既蛋糕，真的希望美心可以在這次熱潮退之前再有新的驚喜比大家啦！

        最近，同事還問我有沒有月餅鐵盒？可留待下年，她跟女兒玩蠟燭！
        我以美麗的謊言回答她，媽咪已用了！所以無月餅盒可給她！
        這個月餅盒對我來說很有紀念價值！其實！是我自己 keep 住啊！


        今年中秋，我家特別豐收！月餅多達 8 盒 (合共大約 40 個 ) 到現時為止，雪櫃仍有月餅！

          A while ago, Maxim's launched their Happy Rainbow cake as a kick off to their 45th anniversary.In addition to that, they have now launched the Baby cakes which represent the cakes sold at those different decades.There are four cakes:1960s - German black forest cake1970s - Chestnut and cream cake1980s - Fruit and cream cake2000s - Crispy mango cakeThe cakes look really cute on display and are about 4 inches in diameter.Visually all of them looked really good and scaled to the right proportion esp

          The cakes look really cute on display and are about 4 inches in diameter.
          Visually all of them looked really good and scaled to the right proportion especially the chestnut cake and the fruit cake.

           They can be bought in twos or the complete set.

          There were only two that I thought were going to taste nice so I just got the Black forest and the fruit and cream cake.

           It would also be interesting to try these cakes as they were not around in my time nor was I brought up with Maxim's.

           This was surprisingly nice because the cream was light and not too sweet, and between the layers there was jelly and cherries.
          The jelly had a nostalgic taste which was quite artificial and it was nice with the cream and chocolate shavings.

          Fruit and cream cake:
          The fruit cake tasted really nice and I forgot to take a picture.
          I really liked it because there were less fruit in the layers which I do not like and the cream tasted normal for once (ie not salted).
          The roasted almond slices tasted really nice with the cake and cream and gave it so much more depth.

          To be honest, I have never liked Maxim's cakes because it is Hong Kong style, but their vintage cakes actually taste like Western cakes.
          I have not tried the chestnut cake so at the moment I do not know whether I like it or hate it.
          The Happy Rainbow also tasted Ok but it is a copycat of Mrs B's and apart from the colouring, the Maxim's version just tastes like an ordinary cake.

            當我出發到新加坡旅行之前，聽 Supersupergirl 講，必食斑蘭蛋糕！那麼，我想先試香港口味的斑蘭蛋糕；中午時段走到 <美心西餅> 買一件斑蘭蛋糕試試其味！ 就算只有一、兩位顧客，女店員依然保持有禮又快手！斑蘭蛋糕 $14以獨立包裝可確保衛生及保存清香！起初，我未試過斑蘭蛋糕，覺得味道都 OK! 以斑蘭葉汁製成，散發好像椰子的清香！ 輕微的甜味！但比較新加坡的口味，真是清淡得多！ 而且，鬆軟程度稍遜！新加坡旅行最後一日，10月2日在新加坡機場，早上 6:30 臨入閘之前，契妹夫在新加坡機場，幫手買斑蘭蛋卷！ 回家後，我急不及待便一嚐新加坡口味的斑蘭蛋卷！只要打開盒蓋，斑蘭蛋卷充滿清新芳香！ 間夾雜芝士絲，與忌廉混合一起，減低甜膩感！甜度不高！質感鬆軟！ 食了半個，切成 4 件蛋卷，真令我回味不已！十幾$ 一件蛋糕已是價錢合理！ 作為飯後甜品都OK! 論味道與質素來說，還是，試一次便算！

            又試新野傍晚放工回家時見到美心最近做緊PROMOTE，4:00PM 後買2個或以上的個裝麵包有折，最多可有75折，咁抵，難怪店舖內擠壓前來買包的人士。呢個應該係新包，叫紅豆綠茶雙色包，大大個，ONLY $7.5，我係紅豆迷，見到紅豆的產品當然唔會放過一咬，點解無綠茶味GE? 紅豆份量少，而且已被攪成溶，混入麵包中，口感度大大減低，只嗅到紅豆香而食不出紅豆味。

                我見美心西餅除咗出萬聖節系列蛋糕之外，仲有果凍杯！有兩款果凍杯：骷髏紳士及死神血眼果凍杯死神血眼果凍杯 ( 提子Jelly + 朱古力慕思 ) 但係隻血眼有點恐怖， 所以無買！我只係買咗：骷髏紳士果凍杯 ( 芒果 Jelly + 芒果慕思 ) $16骷髏紳士以空心白朱古力及黑朱古力做成，好甜！ 面頭兩片芒果好酸，直頭酸到咳！芒果慕思唔係太甜！芒果 Jelly 都 OK ！杯底有些少罐頭菠蘿粒及蜜桃粒。實在唔抵食！純粹貪得意買嚟試吓！
