I never have too much expectation for restaurants in Jordan and Yaumatei areas, well, I mean the service.
There are a lot of tasty restaurants near the Temple Street, like the Vietnamese food and the curry. Let's talk about Gold Medal hot pot first.
This is like my 10th visit to this hot pot this year and I must say, I haven't had a bad experience yet.
I am a big fan of the beef cubes (牛肉粒) and fried bean curd(?) (炸響鈴). Beef cubes are really chewy, and the longer you cook, the better it is. 響鈴 is, frankly, very oily but how could you resist it. Quick dip in the soup, add some sauce on top, yummy!
And it's a must for me to order sashimi, 樟紅 is the favorite. I usually take the head and bones back home, fry them and add some ginger, green onion and bean curd to make a fish soup.
And if it's season, the 花竹蝦 is very good choice for sashimi as well.
Hot pot is about freshness, hot, soup base and sauces. In fact, if the quality of the food is good, sauces are not the concern too (think about Little Sheep 小肥羊).
I would say Gold Medal is able to do all of the above and the best thing is their service. When I went there the first time, I was expecting very rude, very inattentive services, and turned out I was very wrong.
Depending on what you order, price varies. We order sashimi every time, so the bill can be around 350-450 per person.
