寫食評本為自娛,記下所食所感,卻因而結識一眾食友,實屬意料之外。Fabulous Jay可謂眾多食友中較投緣的一位,可能是大家都愛健康飲食吧~ 這夜我倆短聚,便選了二人都早想試的Herbivores,來個Girls’ Green Gathering~由於是夜不欲食太多澱粉質,未能一試其fried risotto(看到鄰桌食客的份,賣相不俗),其推介的miso豆腐又未能勾起我倆興趣,遂主力點頭盤和甜品。Hummus是我最愛的食物之一,平素都會在家自製。這裡的hummus加了紅菜頭,鮮紅色澤甚為吸引,但質地較水,欠creamy,是olive oil和tahini成份不多的緣故,真正食得健康。味道方面,鷹嘴頭乃味淡之物,通常製成hummus要靠garlic和檸檬汁提味,個人偏好重口味一些的 hummus,這裡的hummus較淡,欠缺芝麻味,酸度又不足,不太對我的胃口。Hummus dip怎能缺少pita bread和蔬菜條~ 蔬菜條夠新鮮,非因久放而水份流失之物。pita bread烘熱過,切成小塊,方便蘸hummus。hummus味道一般,份量又少,不值得試。另一頭盤同樣是輕易可於家中自製

Hummus是我最愛的食物之一,平素都會在家自製。這裡的hummus加了紅菜頭,鮮紅色澤甚為吸引,但質地較水,欠creamy,是olive oil和tahini成份不多的緣故,真正食得健康。味道方面,鷹嘴頭乃味淡之物,通常製成hummus要靠garlic和檸檬汁提味,個人偏好重口味一些的 hummus,這裡的hummus較淡,欠缺芝麻味,酸度又不足,不太對我的胃口。
Hummus dip怎能缺少pita bread和蔬菜條~ 蔬菜條夠新鮮,非因久放而水份流失之物。pita bread烘熱過,切成小塊,方便蘸hummus。hummus味道一般,份量又少,不值得試。

另一頭盤同樣是輕易可於家中自製的,但至少美味得多。爽甜多汁的青瓜和奶香柔滑的ricotta cheese乃經典配搭,亦是我自製早餐三文治常用的餡料。這頭盤則先將青瓜刨成薄片,再捲著加了松子仁和甜椒粒的ricotta cheese,淋上olive oil,使其更見幼滑。最值得讚的是加了黑醋調味,令味道更豐富,是開胃清新的小食。

Organic quinoa salad
沙律菜如預期般新鮮又有菜味,豆腐甚為滑溜,quinoa只作點綴,增加口感,沙律汁充滿柚子香,開胃不過酸,而且拌得均勻,份量其實足夠讓我獨個兒作晚餐。

雖然我倆都愛健康食物,但同時亦極愛甜品~!相較之下,其甜品menu似乎更具特色,掙扎好一會才選到兩款較特別的。

Gluten free chocoavocado cake
Gluten free 蛋糕通常都比較結實,不夠軟熟。我就不太喜歡gluten free蛋糕的質感了,尤幸其朱古力味尚算濃郁,加上creamy 的牛油果開心果醬,增加整體的軟滑口感。甜度亦不高,貫徹健康飲食理念。

Strawberry Mumba
士多啤梨頗香甜,和lime curd的微酸很合襯,加入香脆可口但又健康的oat crumble,增加層次。整體是清新輕怡的酸甜,唯獨是雪糕味道較人工,有點美中不足。

較吸引的頭盤都嚐過了,對健康飲食不陌生的我倆而言,未見驚喜。這區的健康食店不少,其吸引力有待提高。或者,將來有新menu的話,可以結伴再訪吧~

I don't mind a restaurant using fancy or elaborate cooking methods to prepare their dishes, as long as you can still detect the natural taste of the ingredients in them. This is why I personally prefer vegetarian restaurants that embrace the true taste of vegetables, as opposed to those that try hard to disguise the lack of meat, for example through making fake meats, using heavy seasoning or deep frying the food. My two favourite veggie eateries in Hong Kong are Mana! and Grassroots Pantry. Recently, I discovered The Herbivores in Soho, which turned out to be pretty awesome too!

The Herbivores has a homely and cosy decor, with menus scribbled on large black boards hanging on its walls and a wooden communal table right in the middle of the dining area. Even though a small establishment, The Herbivores has a strong team behind it: a few of the chefs used to work at ROKA, and their pastry chef, Wendy, trained at a cooking school in France. Dinner, at around $400 per head, is a bit pricey, but the restaurant offers a good value Weekday Lunch set at $128 (with one salad or soup, one main course and a drink) and a Weekend Veggie Brunch at $128 (one main course, one dessert & a drink).

I tried the restaurant's vegetarian Afternoon Tea Set, at $228 for two persons, which was my first vegetarian afternoon tea ever! The tea set is a collaboration with the Green Monday Association, an organisation that promotes a green lifestyle, and HK$10 from each tea set will be donated to them.

The Mini Daily soup was a carrot ginger soup, and it was thick and warming, with the natural sweetness of carrots complemented by a gentle kick of ginger; it was a good way to start the afternoon tea. Wheat bread is used in the asparagus roll, which was a healthy alternative to white bread rarely used in other tea sets. The asparagus was deliciously soft without losing completely losing its crunch.

The ex-ROKA chefs put their Japanese cooking skills to good use and produced some Shitake skewers that were minimalistically seasoned but bursting with juices and flavours.

The Cranberry scones were nicely crumbly, and the mixed berry jam was sweet and vibrant. Since I was in a "healthy mode", I didn't mind not being given clotted cream!

Prepared by Wendy, the pastry chef who trained in France, the Financier with raspberry and the French canelles certainly did not disappoint - both were faultless in texture, and tasted delightful.

The Vanilla Mango Tart had a thin and crispy pastry base and was topped with a generous amount of scrumptious vanilla cream, which paired with the slices of mango beautifully.

The tea set comes with one drink for each person, and we ordered a Yellow Submarine (normally at $58), a cold drink made with mango, coconut and a dash of Yakult. It was fruity and smooth, and wasn't too sweet at all.

The manager recommended Meditation (normally at $58), made with cucumber, lemon and white grape juice. It was a light and refreshing drink, and the outstanding taste of white grapes was particularly refreshing.

The service was friendly and polite, and I enjoyed every bite of my vegetarian tea set, which was refined, delectable and relatively healthy! I wished the venue was a bit more spacious, but other than that, I can see myself coming back to this restaurant already!

絕對不能要求更多,由幾位年輕人打理的 Herbivores 係會令人完全遺忘自己係食緊素還是肉。別具創意嘅菜式充分發揮唔同食材的特質,從煮法到配搭完全脫離一般西式素食肆嘅框架。 至今試過嘅 zucchini rolls - 脆瓜片包住 goat cheese 等餡料,內外口感同濃淡度有對比。 Miso baked tofu 聽落去好似唔足以填肚,但係原來非常之滿足,厚豆腐配 miso 醬汁同茄子等蔬菜,非常好味。朋友試過 pasta 都話好好。女仔最關心嘅甜品絕對有驚喜。妳哋可以忘記 bread pudding, lava cake, panna cotta 等行貨喇。試過 Strawberry mumba 同好香焦糖味嘅 Cup of Mars 都非常不同凡響。

Tried out this new place with a couple of girlfriends over lunch. Dine-in atmosphere: We sat in a "booth" which is perfect for some good conversation and has plenty of table space. We did notice, however, that in the rest of the restaurant there was a particularly noticeable amount of echo. Most likely due to the high ceilings of the venue itself. The restaurant had plenty of sunlight coming in, the menus written by hand topping off it's contemporary "rustic" vibe.

Food: We tried two set lunches and another chose a la carte. The beetroot hummus was interesting and a delightful shade of beetroot purple. Although not what you usually expect in taste out of hummus, it is definitely worth a try. The lunch set salads were simple salad leaves with some balsamic vinegar, nothing out of the ordinary. We decided to try the Japanese plum tagliatelle, pesto penne pasta and tomato, veg fusilli. The lunch sets came with chocolate dessert, but not being a fan of chocolate I did not try it- although there were some sounds of content when my friends did try it.

The dish that stood out the most was the Japanese plum tagliatelle. Chewy, not much sauce but not dry, and comprised of flavours one does not usually expect. As a whole it was pleasantly light for a pasta dish, and with the plum's salty sourness, it meshed very well together with the seaweed.

Drinks: They have a range of freshly squeezed juices and we ordered the watermelon. Arriving in tumblers, glasses somewhat frosted we devoured them instantly. Clearly no added sugar and made of fresh juice. Very refreshing.

Presentation: Food is served on clean, neat and simple personalised plates which clearly show the logo

Would go back to try the mixed mushroom spaghetti, lotus root chips and other juices they have.

As their name implies, they're a vegetarian restaurant, with vegan options as well.

I ordered the basil pesto penne, avocado dip with nacho chips, and two mocktails - The Herbivore and Meditation. The penne was served al dente, but a little too undercooked and dry. The taste tried to come off as subtle, but was instead bland. Better quality basil would improve the recipe a heap and pair with the penne a lot better. The avocado dip, ostensibly a watered-down guacamole, was too creamy and didn't taste like much.

Mocktails were refreshing and novel. The Herbivore had mint, lemongrass, and some other things in there, and Meditation was cucumber, lemon, and white grape juice. Alcohol in them would be a definite bonus.

My server was lovely, helpful, and attentive. Desserts and brunch seemed worth another trip for, but dinner definitely wasn't anything to recommend to others.

周六的士丹頓街有點嘈吵,因為正好有個地盤在運作,我們快快腳推門進去這裡,店員們正好在忙著收拾杯碟,原來當天早上是餐廳的soft opening,剛好結束了可以繼續正常營業。店裡只有一張長檯和一張四五人檯,應該只可以容納大約二十人,餐廳裡的深木色設計和柔和的燈光給人很舒服的感覺,牆上用粉筆寫上餐牌。食物的選擇不算多,每個項目有四五款,全部都有清楚標明裡面是否含有洋蔥、蒜、雞蛋或者牛奶,另外周末有brunch,提供四款早餐選擇連餐飲。

Egg Benedict$98。食物等了很久才有,起碼等了十五至二十分鐘,等到很餓,而且後來有一組客人比我們要晚十分鐘以上才到,但我們各自的Egg Benedict上檯時間卻相隔少於五分鐘,真奇怪。鬆餅上的波蛋比平常細隻一點,荷蘭汁也下得不多,由於是素食的關係,中間只夾著菠菜和蕃茄片。本來想拍一張流心蛋的照片,可是當蛋切開的時候,雖然不是實心,但一點都不流心,是不是熟過頭了? 實在有點失望。還好墊在下面鬆餅非常鬆脆,總算挽回一點分數。

Pumpkin carbonara$128。我也是第一次見到南瓜口味的carbonara,心想南瓜蓉甜甜的,配上煙肉忌廉白汁應該很好吃。本來我以為是淡橙色的忌廉汁,沒想到是意粉本身變得比平常橙一點,難道意粉是加入了南瓜做的,而不是醬汁加入南瓜蓉意粉比較乾身,有別於一般的carbonara,味道是不錯的,不過沒有吃得出南瓜味,忌廉味也不濃。

跟餐要了一杯檸檬茶,茶味幾清新。這裡的餐具,如盤子、盛糖水的小壼都印著餐廳的名字,可見餐廳主人對細節的執著。

一碟單點意粉要百多元,份量其實有點少,我一個女孩子都不一定夠飽,不過提供西式素菜的餐廳一向都不便宜。我看到門口的牌子寫著有平日午市套餐和下午茶餐,價錢應該比較相宜,如果有興趣吃的不妨選平日的時間來試試水溫吧。

坦白說很難逐一解釋好味嘅程度,但肯定的是我們也會再來品嚐!
難得我們食了這麼多美食後,看見甜品在菜單上又忍不住想吃~~
於是美女廚神就向我們推介幾款不同的甜品,可以互相分享又不用吃太飽。她又解釋,其實吃得健康除了材料佔很重要外,分量也很重要,她建議吃7成飽這樣是比較合適。
她說完後,甜品剛到,(甜品較有印象,因我最愛吃甜品)有蘋果批,芒果酸乳酪,辣味dark朱古力凍。我覺得好味在於都不會過甜,(可能是甜品師Wendy懂得香港女生口味吧,她是特意去巴黎學甜品的, 所以甜品賣相都很法式,很喜歡耶
)而且辣味dark朱古力凍很特別,吃時不覺得辣,吞後那種回辣反而很剌激

有特色嘅健康素食,而且餐具也挑選得很別緻。
坦白說很難逐一解釋好味嘅程度,但肯定的是我們也會再來品嚐!
難得我們食了這麼多美食後,看見甜品在菜單上又忍不住想吃~~
於是美女廚神就向我們推介幾款不同的甜品,可以互相分享又不用吃太飽。她又解釋,其實吃得健康除了材料佔很重要外,分量也很重要,她建議吃7成飽這樣是比較合適。
她說完後,甜品剛到,(甜品較有印象,因我最愛吃甜品)有蘋果批,芒果酸乳酪,辣味dark朱古力凍。我覺得好味在於都不會過甜,(可能是甜品師Wendy懂得香港女生口味吧,她是特意去巴黎學甜品的, 所以甜品賣相都很法式,很喜歡耶
)而且辣味dark朱古力凍很特別,吃時不覺得辣,吞後那種回辣反而很剌激
