I've been hearing about this restaurant quite regularly, whenever I ask my colleagues for good japanese restaurant recommendations. Finally got a chance to try it on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small, but has a very casual and cozy feeling, with a nice choice between bar seats, bench area, and individual tables. The wait staff were thoughtful, especially as I was very undecisive with all the interesting options the menu offered. Different salads, rolls, hot dishes...

I've been hearing about this restaurant quite regularly, whenever I ask my colleagues for good japanese restaurant recommendations. Finally got a chance to try it on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is small, but has a very casual and cozy feeling, with a nice choice between bar seats, bench area, and individual tables. The wait staff were thoughtful, especially as I was very undecisive with all the interesting options the menu offered. Different salads, rolls, hot dishes... So we ordered a bit of everything..


Sashimi platter -- We asked the sushi chef to pick up the best seasonal selections, and so it came with a wide variety of toro, salmon belly, hamachi, uni, japanese mackerel, shrimp. What struck me most was the toro as it was fatty (but not too fatty) and flavorful. It melted in my mouth without being stringy, like from the other restaurants i've been to. And wasn't expensive at all, given the fresh quality - the platter was around 500.

Sushi-- we ordered 2 makis, one spicy salmon and the other one was eel and avocado. I really enjoyed them, as they were nicely sized, without too much rice. Definite comfort food. The wagyu beef hand roll was the most memorable.. I felt like I could have devoured at least 5 of them myself. It was beefy flavored, wrapped with crispy seaweed...

We finished the meal off with beef udon to share, and fried eel rice. Udon was served hot, which is how I like it, and the soup was super comforting. The eel rice had a soft egg on top, sweet and loads of flavor.

I would say everything was executed well, and that Gyotaku is definitely the top option in terms of jap restaurants around the area.

I come here often for lunch. Make sure you arrive early or book in advance, otherwise you will never get a seat. Pretty small place, minimal decorations - quite sparse and well lit. Service is quick and efficient, and just friendly enough. At lunch there is always a daily special for around 100hkd, I've never had something which I wasn't happy with. At lunch there is always a daily special for around 100hkd, I've never had something which I wasn't happy with. Also there is a rotating seasonal menu, I haven't tried anything form the spring collection but the hotpot from winter was excellent. Normally though, I come for the sushi - the 10 piece omakase at lunch is full of my favorites. Mainly traditional pieces, maguro, sake, hamachi and also high-end pieces uni, toro and then one or two fusiony pieces like foie gras or truffle. Whatever you order be sure to add the extra side of sashimi for $30hk! Great value and always fresh!!

Have only been a couple times for dinner, and similarly happy though prices are higher - decent sake selection too.

題外話/補充資料: 唯一遺憾系拍車好煩,我最後拍左系The Center, 新世界中心要系雲咸街落番去,星期五晚中環,塞到爆!

今天難得一天有點時間能與新請的同事吃午飯,很多已知好吃的餐廳都已滿座,於開飯找了一會,發現這間店只有11個笑卻沒有喊,決定帶同事來這裡一起當白老鼠。下午1:45抵達,小小的店裡,只剩下4枱客,我們可以有梳化位坐呢!這裡午餐比想像中多選擇,有熟食定,也有魚生定食,亦有DAILY SPECIAL,我選了燒銀鱈魚定食+是日魚生~ 這個餐有前菜、沙律、味僧湯、主菜、白飯及甜品。我們也花了不少時間來問侍應生,她十分有禮貌及耐性地回答我們的問題,第一印象已很好了!先來前菜、沙律及味僧湯,前菜的黃瓜很爽,沒有渣,旁邊的菜粒有點像雪菜的味道;沙律的菜很新鮮,沙律的醬也調較得很好,有香麻醬味但又不會太膩;唯獨是味僧湯對個人來說實在太咸,只喝了幾口便放棄了~接著來的是是日魚生,有三文魚及帶子,從相中一看便知是厚切魚生及帶子,入口新鮮非常,附上的wasabi也不會太攻鼻,醬油咸度剛好,配起魚生來吃能吃到wasabi的刺激感卻又不失魚生的鮮味,實在難得!主角來了!侍應生奉上時已聞到燒魚的香味,忍不住未拍照時立刻嚐一口!想不到入口竟是非常熱,意即是新鮮煎起喔! 銀鱈魚很香,吃到有魚油香味,而肉質處理得很好,很嫩

先來前菜、沙律及味僧湯,前菜的黃瓜很爽,沒有渣,旁邊的菜粒有點像雪菜的味道;沙律的菜很新鮮,沙律的醬也調較得很好,有香麻醬味但又不會太膩;唯獨是味僧湯對個人來說實在太咸,只喝了幾口便放棄了~

接著來的是是日魚生,有三文魚及帶子,從相中一看便知是厚切魚生及帶子,入口新鮮非常,附上的wasabi也不會太攻鼻,醬油咸度剛好,配起魚生來吃能吃到wasabi的刺激感卻又不失魚生的鮮味,實在難得!

主角來了!侍應生奉上時已聞到燒魚的香味,忍不住未拍照時立刻嚐一口!想不到入口竟是非常熱,意即是新鮮煎起喔!
銀鱈魚很香,吃到有魚油香味,而肉質處理得很好,很嫩滑,而魚皮卻煎得香脆!一向很性魚腥的我很快便吃光兩片魚了!

最後就係甜品啦!起初我仲以為會係日本簡單甜品,估唔到竟然係芒果芝士布甸!第一次食,味道唔錯,好香芒果味,不過本人對芝士興趣不大,故不會是我的「飛佛」~


總括來說,以$160這個價錢來吃這個午餐實在值喔!

意外地好味!d魚生好新鮮,especially harmachi & clams, 隻牡丹蝦味道鮮美,有一股特別嘅香甜味。手卷手工出色,連炒豬肉都很香甜。睇得出用料精美,由頭到尾搵唔到缺點。我用團購offer, book 枱時忘記通知,個waitress 不但冇黑面,仲十分好service,真難得! 激讚!

先講烏冬:老實,烏冬都有咬口既,牛肉幾新鮮同埋都幾足料,好大碗!唯一不足之處就係個湯鹹左少少

再黎就係手卷:上手仲有 D D 咁多微溫!入面係三文魚同小小海膽

我一向都唔鍾意食海膽,太腥!不過呢個手卷出奇地好食!一 D 都唔腥!!!三文魚好多,食到底都仲有!飯亦好軟綿!

朋友話個雪魚燒得剛剛好,好滑又香口!我坐隔黎都聞到好香

間唔中一餐貴 D 都可以接受既!同埋真係好味!

TORO 很肥美, 入口即溶, 但喜歡更有咬勁一點的
貝有點薄, 咬勁也不太夠
飯都有點小,是正常我在外吃的3/5, 吃完沒有飽感...但也更專在海鮮上, 是新鮮好吃的

甜品是很有芝麻味的布丁, 香口不膩, 平易近人

整體是滿意的午餐, 會再來

中環的魚作的「汁醬壽司吧」可說本地首創,也是近年香港新晉,以汁醬調味與新鮮食材配搭的創意料理,和朋友試過這裡的吞拿魚赤身(魚背脊)壽司,比較起肥美大Toro,赤身的肉味是較重的,用上香草汁混入赤身,味道清新,效果不錯的說。

Our next dish came which was the restaurants trademark grilled OX Tongue. Presentation was nice, and the OX Tongue was grilled to perfection. Juicy and amazing

We then ordered the Baked Cod Fish with Cheese. This was very interesting, would have never thought the pairing would go together but it was great, as I am a cheese lover myself. Would definately order this again.

We ordered the Aji Tataki sashimi which was amazing, Gobbled it up so fast that we wernt even able to take a picture of it. Extremely extremely fresh fish and I would definately order this again. Very resonably priced at 190 for a whole fish, and you have the option of frying the fish bone after devouring the fresh meat. GREAT!!

Our Seared Toro Sushi came. Probably one of the best toro sushis i've had. We see the chef drench it in a garlic sweet soy and sear it topping it off with some minced onions. It was perfection, fatty, juicy and melted in your mouth.

Then came our Anago Sushi and Spicy Scallop Maki. The Anago was good, nothing special but we loved the presentation as they gave a whole piece of eel per sushi. The Spicy Scallop Maki could be spicier but all in all it was okay.

To top off our dinner, we ordered the supposedly famous Wagyu Foie Gras Beef rice! I would agree with the writers below that have tried it. This rice is to die for. Really to die for, creamy foie gras, and fatty wagyu beef. The rice seemed like it was fried teppanyaki style as it was somewhat dry but bursting with flavour. After breaking the poached onsen egg and mixing it in the bowl. It was divine.

The bill came out to be just over 900 for two. Very fairly priced, fish quality was amazing, and the food great as well. Will come here next time to try their omakase course as we are excited to try more of their fresh fish!

I have been to their soft opening and was very happy to see such a new concept come to town!

The name "Gyotaku" is derived from the traditional form of Japanese fish printing. The process is extremely delicate and artistic... just like the food served - hence the name! Tonight, I revisited Gyotaku for dinner and was extremely pleased with creative and high quality food.

We started off with the *Tempura shrimp and radish salad* - the shrimps were fresh and batter wasn't too thick! A great appetizer to kick start the meal.

We ordered several types of fusion sushi, my favourite being the Tuna quail egg sushi, the Fois gras sushi with blueberry sauce and the Scallop sushi with basil parma ham and fresh cherry tomatoes . If you like meat, I'd recommend the Duck breast sushi or Wagyu beef sushi which I thought was a nice change from the usual seafood sushi.

I had the Fois gras Chawamushi and it came with a layer of mushroom soup - what a great concept! Will try the Crab bisque Chawamushi next time, heard it was very popular too!

Then on to the Star of the night! Gyotaku's Japanese wagyu (Saga beef) & Fois gras fried rice bowl with poached egg!
Extreme goodies mixed in one bowl, this heavenly combination is NOT on the menu. You can ask for it when you get there and if you're lucky... you'll get to try it


If you're a Wagyu beef lover, I would recommend the Saga Beef steak instead of the rice bowl as you get more of the Saga beef flavour.

Am recently a big fan of Japanese grilled cod fish and heard that Gyotaku's was amazing. This dish definitely lived up to it's reputation and is also available for lunch. Much better than most of the Japanese cod fish dishes I've had in HK.

Our meal ended with the famous Sesame pudding * .. I must say I loved it even though I wasn't a sesame fan. You can have the sauce on the side if you don't want the sesame taste to be too strong.. but overall it was a relatively light dessert with great flavours.

Am looking forward to trying Gyotaku's lunch dishes as I heard their Japanese beef curry was made from scratch - Yes.. meaning fresh fruit and NOT from curry cubes! AMAZING! Can't wait to try visit Gyotaku again *

The cherry tomatoes were well seasoned with a hint of salt that brought out its sweetness. Another bite revealed the basil sauce that bridged a perfect combination between the fresh scallop and the parma ham

Wagyu beef aburi with yuzu pepper, chives, garlic chips (right)
The wagyu beef melted in my mouth ! The buttery texture of the meat blended amazingly well with the gentle acidity of the yuzu pepper and the subtlety of the chives. The garlic chips were fried to a crisp perfection which was the cherry on top of all this fatty goodness.

This dish was so fabulous, my friend and I ordered another one right afterwards! The foie gras was rich, creamy and seared to a lightly-crisp and caramelised exterior. It was madly delicious with the bluberry sauce.

Seared duck with duck sauce mustard seed and slice onion and chives (right)
I’m a big fan of duck so I absolutely adored this dish. The seared duck was juicy and succulent. The mustard seed and the duck sauce enhanced the flavor of the meat and to top it off, the little bits of sliced onions and chives gave it a perfect hint of freshness.

The toro was lightly grilled to perfection. The salt black pepper gave it a tint of seasoning and the cut lemon provided it with a zesty finish

My favorite dish of the night!! The combination of the quail egg, the crisp chip and the lightly marinated tuna was a burst of flavors. This dish was jawdroppingly good. A definite must-try.

Wagyu beef, foie gras and poached egg rice bowl

This is not on the menu but I heard from a friend who knows the manager that they only serve 4 bowls per week. I immediately called 5 days in advance to reserve this. And it was well worth it. The natural oiliness of the wagyu beef and the foie gras blended in perfectly with the rice. Each mouthful had me craving for more !

Seasame pudding

Even thought my friend and I were stuffed to the max, we knew we would not be fully satisfied if we did not order dessert. The seasame pudding was custard-smooth and very creamy. I’m usually not a big fan of seasame, but I definitely wanted a second helping of this !

吃了前菜,也要吃下這裏的壽司,之前提過這裏不是就切一片魚生,鋪上白飯上,還會玩一些花巧東西,不吃拖羅以及海膽,在餐牌上每款魚約有二種的調味,簡單的選上鮪魚赤身,帶子,魷魚以及西冷牛肉,其實後者不是我想叫的,不過他弄錯就算了,看這裏的壽司比起自稱攪什麼八吋以及創新大大件壽司的店子好得多,賣的價錢和外面的差不多,每一件搭上不同的料材,用筷子還是用手拿著吃?吃壽司肯係用手吧,未說材料如何,飯粒還算結實,不會一拿就即散,在場的香港師傅所握的,都還可以,其實吃這類型的壽司,覺得已經合格了,而日本師傅則在負責熟食以及壽司,不過吃這類型的,魷魚用了大葉以及梅肉,有了少許酸味以及清新的香味,配搭也不錯但其魷魚切得不算出色,吃落頗為韌,赤身是醬油漬,吃落本身就有味道,還新鮮的鮪魚,當然不是在香港吃過最好,起碼不少吃得冰凍的,其實不用那片蓮藕會更有好,這一款是預料之外,帶子用上生ハム,應該為其口感更加好,再用上日本師傅自製柚子汁,真的像吃西式多於壽司,吃落帶子蠻新鮮,不過好像熟的會更加適合,是日絕大部份是外國人,也會點上西冷牛肉,雖然不能說差,但真的沒有什麼特別,

にゅう麵來填肚子,用上昆布,干魚仔去煮的湯底,帶有一陣清香味道,吃落並不濃味,愈吃愈有勁,還記得壽司廣的那碗烏冬真的完全沒有得比,相比剛才的燒魚自己更喜歡這碗麵,吃得飽肚

埋單的價錢在中環日本菜來說不貴,熟食比壽司更吸引,而午市賣的定食走回日式,賣百多元一個定食,師傅和侍應服務還好,師傅也不是口水多過柴,起碼會介紹每一件壽司有什麼配料,下回會再去哪間新店呢?

I know this place has only just opened but the concept reminds me so much of Gari from New York and even though I have only been twice, I love it.In general: - The restaurant's decor is comfy + the food is casual, clean, not at all pretentious and is the ideal place for lunch/dinner with clients, or with a few friends. - Love the open kitchen idea and seeing the chefs in action while I am waiting for my delicious sushi- Cozy restaurant- Communal tables are not often seen in Hong Kong, though und

- The owner introduced a plate of different creative sushi so we could try everything. Don't remember what sushi we had, only that it was amazing.

Cod
- The cod was moist and tender, melted in my mouth. great dish with balanced flavors.
- perfect dish for OLs who do not want a big lunch but would like a satisfying meal

Duck and Foie gras Bowl
- Duck and Foie Gras went very well together. Surprisingly the Foie Gras flavor did not overpower the duck's taste, they actually complemented each other very well with the sauce. The first bite = flavor explosion. Definitely a must try.
- The owner actually offered another bowl of sauce, so if you are one of those who loves heavily flavored food and not afraid of a heavy lunch, this will be your perfect option.

Nyumen
What is better than a warm bowl of quality noodles in the winter? The nyumen was cooked exactly to the consistency I loved = al dente. What made this dish perfect was the soup. I could taste the number of ingredients put into the simple broth. This dish is so simple, yet so hard to perfect. The only other place in Hong Kong that I thought had the same satisfactory Japanese noodles was Inagiku but at twice the price. This was, by far, my favorite main course in the restaurant.

Sesame Pudding
- AMAZING. THE BEST DESERT! PERFECT for people who love sesame. The pudding was at the perfect consistency with a CRAZY sesame taste
- the japanese black sugar sauce further brought out the flavor
- it was a light desert which made me feel less guilty eating so much of it
- one word to sum up the desert: JIANG

Fruit Cream Cake Roll
- a light desert
- love the fresh fruit
- Perfect for those people who like those fruit + cream birthday cakes

Green Tea Mille Crepe with red bean paste in the middle
- Personally I love Mille-feuille anything, so combined with my 2 of my other favorite things (green tea and red bean paste), this desert was amazing.

- In the end, my friend just separated the layers of the cake just to enjoy this desert that much longer.
- Would definitely get this again when I am back

Too bad I did not get a chance to eat the wagyu beef since it is only served during dinner, but according to the owner (which gave impeccable service and is quite good looking) and my friends, the wagyu beef was out of the world. A MUST TRY NEXT TIME!
