The fish was hot and crispy, and the fish itself was pretty fresh. You get a choice of sauces to choose from. I asked for a reccommendation and got the mayo. I tried my friend's honey mustard and preferred that.The fries, however, were a bit soggy...The whole thing was $128 with 3 pieces of fish, or you can order a smaller portion for $88.

Almost 20 craft beers from all over the world are offered, 4 of these on tab. We tried the two local ones: Moonzen “Jade Emperor” IPA –amber color, strong, hoppy and fruity, nice beer and the Lion Rock Oriental pearl Oatmeal stout – black color, quite light for a stout and without a decent head, but nevertheless an enjoyable beer.

We ordered a plate of shrimps, oysters and fries (which took surprisingly long to arrive), typical UK-style beer batter, shrimps quite small and therefore not much taste, oysters were great – large and juicy with a nice crispy batter, unfortunately there were only two of them; in addition very large potato wedges with the skin, more soft than crispy, but good tasting.

Staff was very friendly, beer came fast, food took a while.

Overall a nice place for a drink of good quality beer, some nibbles and some people watching.

餐廳雖然細小,但是坐在店內望著繁忙的街境食Tea亦另有一番風味,而且食物質素非常高。即叫即炸,等大約15分鐘,不過當吃到熱辣辣、脆卜卜的炸魚薯條時便知道值得。炸魚外脆內滑嫩,皮薄油香,不過要小心吃的時侯爆汁。

炸雞非常意想不到,本來以為是脆卜卜的炸雞,誰不知原來是家鄉雞的感覺,配合多種香料,雞皮淋中帶香,啖啖肉而且肉汁飽滿,味道有點像台灣鹽酥雞。吃一啖配一大口啤酒,啤酒帶有果莓的甜味,非常易入口,亦不會搶走食物的香味。

另帶一提,炸魚配有一款微辣的醬汁,非常推,只要跟店員說要辣的醬汁就可以,因為全店只有一款。

After a long struggle, we decided to go for the draft craft beers which are not always available in other bars in HK.

The first round we ordered is the spiced porter "celebration ale" from a HK local brewery Young Master. It is a Christmas special porter that taste very creamy and chocolately spiced. Winter flavor for sure!
Yamaki Red from Meantime brewery came after. Reddish orange in color, this UK amber ale has a light and crisp flavor with a little bit citrus sweetness in between. Great aroma, definitely goes well at happy hours after a long day at work.

We have also ordered some food to go with the beer, including the clam chowder, a small size fish and chips and the Jambalaya.
Clam chowder was served first and it kept us warm under the freezing weather. It is very creamy yet we hope to have more clams inside.
The fish and chips are quite big in portion. There are two pieces of fish and lotz of fries below. The fish is tasty and moist with a crunchy coating.

Finally it comes the Jambalaya, we were told by the shopkeeper that this is a South American dish with fried chicken, fried prawn and some rice underneath. It was an interesting combination.

One more thing you shouldn’t miss - the shop is having promotion on Wednesday night, free fries offer for every draught beer ordered. So our night ended with a full stomach!

It's refreshing to see the little shop at the corner of Stantan and Aberdeen street - Beer and Fish. It's our second time here. We tried the beer battered fish last time. This time, we tried something different, fried chicken and shrimp jambalaya. Coming from texas, I really liked the jambalya, with a true cajun taste, with the right touch of cayenne peppers and paprika, just like mom's. It's a true homey comfort food for me.  I wonder if they used the cajun spice that mom used. Though mom would probably cook it with crawfsh instead of shrimp and chicken. Chicken was tender, crunchy, and tasty too.

The butter lettuce wedges were really fresh, dressed with bacon tips. Freshness was the accent.  We tried the crab cegg too. Lots of crabmeat. It's interesting that they topped it with egg and gravy, sort of egg benedict in disguise. Crabcake was soft, tsaty and worked well with the soft poached egg, though not the New England crabcake that I'm used to.

The peaty chocolate (boozy shake) was a pleasant surprise. Not too sweet, very chocolaty wiith crunchy ice. I sipped up the whoe jar (they serve their drinks in jars) so quicky that it didn't havec a chance to be in the picture.

All and all, it's a joint that I liked, too bad that it does not have a lot of seats for more people.

Before this place opened, I was excited because I was expecting it to be another chippy option.The name Beer and Fish got me hopeful thinking there would be different fishes to choose from.Anyway, when I got there I saw people eating fish and chips but the shape of the fish looked more like battered king prawns so I settled for the Jambalaya as the owner has this other Southern Restaurant.The Jambalaya that I had was a bit disappointing because it lacked cajun taste and all I could taste was gre

Hitachino Nest White Ale ($65)

The first beer we tried was a pale ale from Japan and it was light in taste with a bit of floral flavour. Nothing beats a good cold beer during this long steaming summer. The tap is custom made so that the amount of foam can be adjusted to suit the nature of different beer.

Beer & Fish does recommend you to take-away your beer. There is a special take-away system. If you purchase a to-go, containers are going to be provided with a deposit for you to come back for more with a discount price. You may also return the bottle to the shop and get your deposit back. There are only 400ml mason jar and 2 liters keg available at the moment. We figured that you it's always a better value for you to take-away as you may enjoy the discount all the time!

One of the things I miss most about my former home, a country that is one big island where most of the population lives on the coastline, is the variety of fish available when visiting a fish and chip shop. In most fish and chipperies in Australia, you have a myriad of options available, all of it amazing quality. So far, I've discovered that there is a distinct lack of fish and chip joints, and the few good ones I've found, there are limited options available.

My favourite so far has been Hooked in Soho (see post here), but even this New Zealand run little joint has very few options for an adventurous diner. So, it was with a little trepidation that we visited the new the SoHo fish and chip joint, Beer & Fish. We'd had a few false starts over the last few weeks, walking by a couple of Saturday afternoons in a row, only to find that Beer & Fish was 'not quite open' yet. Then, one day, it was open!

Being brand new, Beer & Fish had that shiny new feeling about it, everything was shiny and clean and it looked pretty cool. Exposed light fittings gave it a slightly industrial feel, as did the metal benches that doubled as serving benches. Like a lot of dining spots in SoHo, Beer & Fish took up very little room, in fact it was tiny, and would probably only hold half a dozen diners at any one time.

We were given a little fold out card, which doubled as the menu and when we unfurled the little card, could see three clear sections. The left hand side was all about the boozy shakes, beer on tap and wine options. Mid section was about the food and the right hand panel was about the sides. Looking over the menu, I could see that there was a distinctive Southern American (Louisiana) influence on the menu, especially when I noticed the beer battered seafood Po-Boy and the fried chicken & shrimp Jambalaya. However, to my dismay, I saw that there was a distinct lack of option when it came to fish.

We contemplated leaving at that point, but we'd already ordered our drinks (if you could call SC's order a drink). Which was also a bit of an issue. For a restaurant called Beer & Fish, there was not only a lack of fish options, there was also no beer available! With a 'humph', SC had settled for a glass of water, but I'd actually already ordered a vanilla ice cream shake, which to be fair was pretty decent.

Deciding to give Beer & Fish the benefit of the doubt, we went ahead and ordered some food. With limited options, I chose the beer battered fish and fries, which came with Atlantic Cod in an Original Wit beer batter. Also coming with the order was a serve of triple fried hand-cut chips and dipping sauce. Lunch was served in a white cardboard box that actually help make the serving of fish and chips look ok, and was also helped along by half a lemon with an interesting design, and a touch of colour from carrots and lettuce. My fish looked like it had been deep fried with a slightly heavy handed approach, with the beer batter looking very thick, which was confirmed after my first bite.

Look, Atlantic Cod is not the most exciting fish on the planet and while it was cooked well and was nice and moist, it really didn't have much flavour. Even the beer batter wasn't able to help improve the flavour of the fish, so I ended up leaving most of the fish. Thankfully though, the hand cut chips were pretty delish, especially since the potato skin was left on to add to the flavour.

SC fared a little better with her option of 'real fish fingers', a modern take on that dish we were all forced to eat as kids (well, in Australia anyway). The fish option wasn't any different, it was still Atlantic Cod, but the fish fingers came in smaller bite sized pieces cooked in bread crumb, which seemed to work better with the fish. The fish was still quite bland, but the tastier crumb and the accompanying triple-honey mustard made the dish more enjoyable.

One of the more interesting facets of our lunch at Beer & Fish was the abundance of factual beer coasters, which sprouted a heap of useful(?) facts about beer throughout the ages. There were enough to make placemats for our lunch. Yep, probably not the right use for beer coasters, but given the distinct lack of beer, as good a purpose as any.

We were told that the joint would be a few weeks away from being ready to serve beer. I have to say I'm a bit perplexed... I'm not sure that it's a great strategy to open a place called Beer & Fish without beer, and with a limited number of fish options. We also overheard the waitress telling another bloke that once the beer is available, that they will remain open till the early hours of the morning.

It's a competitive little spot in that little section of SoHo and with the pace in which restaurants open and close in HK, you'd want to think that Beer & Fish will pick up. I guess the clue is in the restaurants name with 'beer' coming before fish. They just need to get that sorted and it might just work...

一向都好食炸嘢,偶然去開SOHO,發現開咗一間名叫 “Beer & Fish” 嘅新店,決定試吓。店舖雖然細細,但裝修型格。我order咗一客Fish & Chips、炸蠔、炸魚皮、一杯生啤。炸魚塊脆皮好香脆!係我食過數一數二好味嘅!魚肉一D都唔腥,絕對唔係坊間D廉價龍利柳,一問之下原來係用原條鮮魚起肉!就連薯條都係自家製!真係好難得!炸蠔塊脆皮比較深黑,初頭以為炸燶咗,但原來別有來頭。店主採用咗高成本的黑啤作為炸漿,從而令到塊炸魚脆而不油,佩服!最後不得不提就係自家釀製嘅生啤,味道不比某些著名品牌遜色!總括而言,各款食物都具有一定水準,下次一定會再光顧。

專誠來這新店尋味。中環站走過來,這店正正在PMQ元創坊隔離,走得很苦,㷫恰恰,熱辣辣,這樣走來,其實吃什麼喝什麼都好吃的了😂店面小小的,像賣take away但設堂吃幾個座位。Apple Cider (From US)- Fresh apple taste and smell, 入口酸酸的,很好入口,不覺不覺就渴了大半杯。Saison (From New Zealand)- 聞起來很香很清新的麥香,味道不複雜,容易入口,咕嚕就吞到喉嚨去,特別適合夏天渴。Battered Fish & Chips - 配啤酒的,香口的錯不了, beer可選,醬料可以選。新鮮熱辣辣做起,大的有3條炸魚塊,chips是連皮炸的。魚塊容易切開,外脆內juicy,魚塊實身、彈牙帶有魚味,不錯,略嫌炸完油隔得不夠,頗肥膩。薯條也新鮮,很香薯味,份量剛好。如果你碰巧走過元創坊,不妨來這試試看。
