當然「一定水平的品質」對我來說是好的,所以我一個禮拜要去報到三至四次,而且總會遇到一樣的熟客正享受著「一定水平的品質」。

今年中開始,CoCo Espresso又多了一個生力軍,而且最近兩個月她煮的咖啡,實在令人驚豔,因為懶而很久沒有寫食評的我,正是因為被她的「白色浪漫」打動而決定克服惰性。

我還記得當她剛開始站在咖啡機前開始煮咖啡時,他是有點試驗性質的把我當成白老鼠,要她煮咖啡給我喝,然後再問我的意見。(應該把當初她煮的咖啡的「肉酸照片」拍起來的,現在可以要脅她送幾杯咖啡來喝。)

沒想到她克服生澀之後(應該是吧),咖啡愈煮愈好,而且品質非常穩定,以前我還會挑剔說要喝他煮的咖啡,現在則是照單全收。

上周老饕同事提起她有煮一杯特別的Mocha給他,於是我也依樣畫葫蘆的跟了一杯,結果喝了之後真是驚豔。

看起來是杯Flat White,不像Mocha,讓我覺得十分狐疑,而且端到嘴邊聞一聞,除了咖啡香之外,還會聞到一絲絲甜味,Flat White並沒有這種甜味。

一入口,絲一般的奶泡比起Flat White更加滑膩,而且帶點甜,但又不是Mocha那樣濃烈的巧克力甜味。

一口接一口的三口喝完,我已經很久沒有喝咖啡這麼狼吞虎嚥!

「說穿了也沒什麼,不就是一杯白Mocha,」他平淡無奇地說,但對我而言,這可是冬日的一大聖品呀!

怕冷的我在冬天極需要補充熱量,而最簡單的方法就是吃甜食,但是龜毛的我又怕甜,此時有一杯加了白巧克力與香醇牛奶的甜美咖啡可以入肚,這不就是我在嚴寒冬季中遇見的「白色浪漫」嗎?

題外話/補充資料: I cannot type Barista's name. But I don't want to use "男咖啡師 " or "女咖啡師". So I choose "他" and "她" to describe there are two Barista in the CoCo Espresso now. They both are great.

The new and improved Coco Espresso!!!The newly decorated shop was more open/airy with all the poster on the window taken down it looks much more tidy and welcome vs. the old homey style... Both are comfortable but this new one is like brushing up a bit so it looks kinda 'refreshing'... That seemed to fit with Coco Espresso's spirit that seemed to brighten up and talked more. Apart from the decoration, what goes into the cup was also received a lot of attention too while the opening hour was ext

The Cappuccino I had was better than what I had before on the texture. Richer and more velvety. The temp, what are you talking about? This is Coco Espresso's milk drink so we don't need to worry about it at all... The secret is lower temp and the temp last longer with cup's choice... Look normal/mundane but this is a finer detail lots of cafe over look with all those super duper fancy cup and forget to have a decent thick enough cup to keep the temperature of the liquid last longer, making super duper hot drink unnecessary and one could enjoy the goodies in the milk at the temp was kept at the optimal point.. Way to go Coco Espresso!!!

However, the coffee base was not what it was and what I like. I was taken aback with a strong and forward roasty and chocolate tone in the cup with a very clear hint of sumatra in the cup, ie bolder big body than what it was... Not a good one for me as it seemed to interfere the sweetness and distract me from the sublime velvety body in milk... Too good of a thing?

With a new grinder, I can easily get a layer of taste in each sip as if I have almost a different cup with each sip. The syrupy body ending was like a nice kiss goodbye teasing me toward the end of the cup and making me wanting more. Coco's new grinder happened to be conical burr Eureka very similar to Barista Jam. Apart from that, the loan unit of La Marzocco Linea which has a lot of history in there offers a nice and round cup which I like and seemed to be typical signature from Linea. There is no 'digital' feel, ie all the tasting note stick out like a sore thumb like when Coco just changed its grinder to Eureka.
Dual boiler! No more temp surfing!!! :)

This is an overall improvement vs the old Coco and I can't wait for the new machine to arrive which will be the new Linea machine. Meanwhile, I expect barista at Coco Espresso to be very familiar with its new espresso machine when the new Linea is installed.

從前要找間特色的咖啡店已頗為困難,更何況要找一杯出色的flat white真是寥寥可數。不過現在隨住更多的咖啡店的開設,要找它也容易多了。最近忽然有個想法是去試試不同咖啡店出品的flat white。Flat white 源於澳洲及新西蘭,雖然說跟latte 這奶類咖啡差不多,但它們比起latte來得flat及順滑,更舒服的質感。若談及flat white,便立即想起coco espresso。其實年多前早已嚐過此店的flat white,的確讓人滿意,不過作為自己的flat white 巡禮首站,以這裡作為開始正好合適不過了,也順便重溫那味道。選好時間避開打工仔的lunch時間,果然能坐張大枱,來個悠悠的coffee time雞肉三文治: 分量充足的一份三文治,用上新鮮的蔬菜(青瓜,蕃茄,生菜),因此口感很好,蔬菜的水份剛好來個平衡。加上雞肉片及芝士,整個三文治確實夠飽肚。Flat White: 跟餐的關係,咖啡大小為8oz ,並配以慣常漂亮的latte art, 咖啡溫度亦都剛好。就此杯flat white所見,極少foam含量,面層的奶泡大小控制於微小甚至看不見的情度,故呈現一平

Flat White: 跟餐的關係,咖啡大小為8oz ,並配以慣常漂亮的latte art, 咖啡溫度亦都剛好。就此杯flat white所見,極少foam含量,面層的奶泡大小控制於微小甚至看不見的情度,故呈現一平滑的面層。一口喝下,咖啡與奶的揉合更為一致,相當滑而且順口的感覺,淡然的咖啡味令此杯flat white 來得柔和,pura牛奶的奶香,喝得出那綿綿的質感。很喜歡這杯flat white, 兩三喝下更見底了


Latte: 飲咖啡的習慣早已到達一不離二的情況,很自然order了另一杯的Latte來嚐過分別。latte 用上玻璃杯盛載,葉子形的latte art,咖啡亦維持一定的溫度。latte 的奶泡同樣打得十分幼細,同樣淡身的咖啡味,得來的是“溫柔”的感覺(感謝咖啡師一句道出那感覺
)。對比起flat white, latte 那層foam 會來得厚些,更嚐到那綿密的實在質感。

能夠喝到一杯滿意的咖啡,頓時令自己的心情變得愉快。咖啡師也相當健談,也與他閒話一會(當然也離不開咖啡)。好!前往下一站........

There has been an explosion of cafe openings in Hong Kong during the last 1-2 years, and having tried almost all of them already (but haven’t had the opportunity to review, I mean it only took me 2 years to blog about this place!), I found a lot of these late starters to be of very high quality and nearly right up there with the best of the world! One of the latest surprises has been Unar Coffee, which does a very deathly milk-based coffee which is highly addictive and comes with the prettiest latte art, although espresso wise its remains a bit too old-world and fluctuates depending on beans batch and freshness.

Barista Jam around the corner from here is of course considered the Mecca of all Cafes in Honng Kong. But the nearby ones such as Sidewalk Caffe, Caffe MyMy, Cafe Loisl, Fuel Espresso, Coffee Assembly. Le Moment, Cafe Sashay etc, are also worthy contenders in this part of town!

Johnson makes one of the most addictive Caffe Latte's with a smooth creamy milk and an aromatic coffee base, and for me, better than his Cappuccino too! The Espresso meanwhile is also of the highest standards, despite Johnson's Espresso Machine to be slightly lacking compared to his potential skills! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, COCO ESPRESSO !

"我係唔係好好人呢!"呢句野竟然係我在上環的餐廳聽到的,真係ridiculous到極點!openriceD人話呢間十分好,所以特意來食午餐,去到店門十分細,內裡的位也無張looks comfortable,座位無得挨,決定坐bar檯。大概那下午四點幾,我真的肚餓到極點,所以叫點野食,老闆話湯賣清(失望!),最後從菜譜中選擇了三文魚田園沙拉。菜譜很誤導人,明明寫住沙拉送多士,我見無到他俾我他先話過左送多士的時間。哇呢個沙拉的份量已經少到我真的想問她們有沒有良心,他仲要收三十八蚊唔送多士?之後他知道我未食午餐就一臉不情願的同女同事講叫她整件多士(他之後不停地話我聽足一份要收二十一,現在送所以不能給一份(>-<)/俾我。哇我等到不耐煩已經好比面不停扮影相,都影左足足360度多士先到。驚喜!多士雖然薄薄的,但原來有烘熱,而且還非常脆,加上溶溶厚厚的牛油,十分香口!但身為麥包卻一點沒有麥味,不太好耶。至於沙拉就非常差喇,看上去生菜的份量只有一片生菜切成塊,黑醋油酸酸甜甜,入口很順喉,但油的份量太多而變得不開胃,另有三片蕃茄和三片青瓜。這些東西其實要做應該不會難做呀,找新鮮材料就是

至於沙拉就非常差喇,看上去生菜的份量只有一片生菜切成塊,黑醋油酸酸甜甜,

如果味道不很美味,都應該在份量補足丫,再大一點就好了。

可能我當黑,這裡位於馬路旁,今天路邊不停有汽車的噪音滋擾,還有地盤聲令到椅
子不停震動,不過呢個都唔係我一食完就走的原因。我不知道這裡五點半close,老
闆竟然又『不厭其煩』地話他工作有多辛苦,解析俾我聽點解他要這樣趕我走。

最後,首尾孚應"我係唔係好好人呢!"呢句野,係老闆講的,在我俾錢他的時候,
他問我好不好食,我禮貌上告訴他個多士可以啦,老實講佢個沙拉的味道係同平時
餐廳無唔同的,只是好少同店員態度俾左壞印象我。
咁細份量服務態度同食物質素這麼普通實在係一點唔值囉!

一個ESPRESSO BASE 是有一定的規格的,所以有時會見到一些咖啡店的SINGLE可以多過呢度的DOPPIO.真的有些不可思異.新 一杯好的特濃意式咖啡,還是要看豆,機同人. 豆要講究新鮮但同時要說熟成因為豆要呼吸要生命.咖啡機,以半自動的來說,說的是準確性及可調性. 人就以當日豆的狀態,溫度濕度..加以調製,才可以有杯好的咖啡. 當然說專業論舌頭,這裡大有人在. 但就簡單的成品而言,這裡的咖啡有NOSE, 有質感有味道...未必係好長的FINISH..但一定的舒服.

to-go latte, the size is very small.. barely any foam. another $22.... if i wanted below average coffee and sandwich, i could have gone to Starbucks for less than $52. not great value for the money.. don't recommend it.

朋友話呢度嘅咖啡十分好飲,所以尊登嚟食lunch,這店子十分細,只有十幾個位。我哋都算好彩,剛剛有三人食完埋緊單,我哋等咗一陣就有位。我order烘芝士火煺三文治+雞肉沙律和cappuccino ($65),而朋友們就要公司三文治+ cappuccino ($70) 和烘芝士火煺三文治+鴨胸沙律和Latte($65)。烘芝士火煺三文治係兩片麥包夾住cheddar cheese和火煺,麥包很香麥味,而且十分之脆,芝士溶溶哋,火煺質素也不錯。這份三文治味道幾好,雞肉沙律也不錯,黑醋dressing酸酸甜甜,幾好味又開胃。朋友嘅公司治有蛋,火煺,牛肉,蕃茄,生菜和青瓜。味道也很美味。最後才上飲品,我杯cappuccino畫咗個心,味道香濃,泡泡也很creamy,正!

Coco Espresso was the first cafe I wrote on openrice as this is the first standalone cafe that I'm really impressed overall.Coco offers a nice balance between easy, comfortable decoration with friendly barista that one can talk to regarding coffee and photography... (Johnson is an avid photographer and, as a good evidence, his works adorn the wall for you to enjoy.)In the old days, Coco was pretty much a light and soft version of coffee that is good but left a little something to be desired for

Coco offers a nice balance between easy, comfortable decoration with friendly barista that one can talk to regarding coffee and photography... (Johnson is an avid photographer and, as a good evidence, his works adorn the wall for you to enjoy.)

In the old days, Coco was pretty much a light and soft version of coffee that is good but left a little something to be desired for me in his cup. I always thought of combining coffee's atmosphere and hospitality with the coffee I like from Crema... Of course, that will never happen.

A bit of a background before this update. I haven't been to Coco Espresso for so long I couldn't remember my last time there. You either blame it on Holly Brown or Barista Jam, whoever you like less then...!

Creamier and sweeter with better coffee base

Surprisingly, the change is on a good side. The milk drink seemed to further improved, ie creamier and sweeter, and the coffee base exerted itself up better vs. the old day where all the coffee taste here was rather subdued. BTW, the picture of capp was taken by Johnson, not me... Any good thing, it's his credit.. Anything bad, it's my camera's fault (not mine, of course..
).. Also, there's no post processing/crop on the Capp picture though the collages may cut out something that I couldn't adjust.

The espresso also showed significantly improvement all the tastes now, be it acidity, sweetness, body, etc. came to the forefront one didn't need to look really hard to find ones. Also, there was no hint of bitterness sometimes I had from cafe here... Kudo to Johnson indeed

The downside is that the difference between the two barista was now more salient. Maurice's Capp I had yesterday was a classic Coco Espresso style, ie somewhat velvety but can be better, somewhat chocolaty with some hint of bitterness (not a lot but I can sense it). This was nitpicking but in the old days, I couldn't tell them apart but now it's quite easy... Blame it on Johnson then as I can sense significant improvement in his skill.

The all day breakfast here has never let me down. It's a nice home style cooking and its salad was surprisingly good it wasn't just a plate decoration.

With such an improvement in the cup by Johnson and the nice 'home-style' all day breakfast, I plan to drop by Coco more often. Cozy ambience and friendly barista to boot too.

天氣雖說有點變涼,可是仍是好得不得了,每天也陽光普照的,在某個陽光絢爛下午,就來到這裡好好的吃個下午茶,其實我只是想找個地方好好的坐坐。大概下午三點多四點,店內只有一名客人(?),其實不知他是否客人啦,反正他和老闆談得很熱絡似的,總之就有很多位置,可以隨便坐。不過老實說,這裡並不是可以坐得很舒適的店子,因為空間有限外,另外座位也是沒有得挨的,除了靠近牆身的座位,所以個人覺得不算能夠坐得很舒服啦。Anyway,肚餓到極點,所以要叫點食物吃,最後從多款中選擇了 ham & cheese sandwich,另外飲品當然少不了啦,最後就要了一杯caffe latte,隨手拿了兩本雜誌就找個位置坐下慢慢看了。食物和咖啡也很快來到啦,先說食物,多士雖然薄薄的,但烘得很香脆,加上厚切火腿和溶掉了的芝士,又香口又好味~ 至於咖啡也很不錯呀,溫度暖暖的,入口很順喉,表面奶泡幾幼滑。無落糖飲但唔覺得好苦,咖啡味好濃幾好飲喎,飲完覺得好滿足。如果... 陽光再大一點...再大一點...再大一點就好了。。。

天氣雖說有點變涼,可是仍是好得不得了,每天也陽光普照的,在某個陽光絢爛下午,就來到這裡好好的吃個下午茶,其實我只是想找個地方好好的坐坐。

食物和咖啡也很快來到啦,先說食物,多士雖然薄薄的,但烘得很香脆,加上厚切火腿和溶掉了的芝士,又香口又好味~

至於咖啡也很不錯呀,溫度暖暖的,入口很順喉,表面奶泡幾幼滑。無落糖飲但唔覺得好苦,咖啡味好濃幾好飲喎,飲完覺得好滿足。

如果... 陽光再大一點...再大一點...再大一點就好了。。。

注意這家coffee shop很久了,聽說咖啡很好喝,今天剛好在附近做完gym,來享受一頓清爽無負擔的午餐吧。店小小一間,只有十來個位置,男老闆人很nice,笑臉迎人。午餐時段有很多選擇,我們點了三文治套餐,$40配是日餐湯,$50配普通熱咖啡。蛋沙律芝士三文治烤得熱烘烘的,另外燒雞也不錯,夾了許多蕃茄和生菜。紅蘿蔔湯很清甜,不似南瓜濃湯般濃稠。咖啡點了Cappuccino,就像海報上一樣,店家還畫了愛心奶泡呢。不油不膩,好健康。

Services:Friendly, proactive and helpful.Foodrdered a spaghetti lunch set. Fresh produce and quality ingredients and it is made to order - it was hot when served (straight from the kitchen, in fact you can see the kitchen from the dining area) and it gives a very solid and fulfilled feeling. Small but cozy. Went there early and took the bar seat, reasonably comfortable even it is a small shop. The drawback is that you have to share a table with others if your party cannot fill up one. Well, this is Hong Kong so I understand......

試過Barista Jam,讀食評時發現附近還有這一間,口碑也不俗,當然要試試。星期六的下午,去完森壽司,順道來這裡嘆一杯咖啡。點了兩杯細Flat White,很香濃的咖啡味,奶泡亦打得好,很creamy,很濃郁。只咖啡一項是滿意的,惜店子太少,座位的佈置亦不是讓客人久坐的,我想只是坐一會兒喝一杯香濃的咖啡,此店是合格的。當然外賣亦可以。

Taking the initiative into something new is truly something quite courageous to begin with -- venturing into a new territory that's been around but haven't been explored to a persona level.

Affogato is an Italian dessert where hot just-brewed espresso is poured into gelato, melting it slightly but one could still experience that sweet chill from the gelato, accompanied by the dark intensity of espresso. The half-molten dessert should be easy to make, but like anything that's simple, as long as you have good vanilla ice cream and a good espresso with you it's hard to go wrong. This day, walking past Coco Espresso in Sheung Wan, I spotted the Affogato, not a new item, but a solution to a craving of ice cream and coffee for the day. I have visited Coco Espresso at times when it's not as busy and packed, just because the seating doesn't allow anyone of a certain height to sit comfortably long enough to enjoy the coffee.

Squeezing into one of the stools at the coffee shop, I ordered my Affogato. It soon arrived -- a perfectly scooped globe of vanilla ice cream, beige and smooth. accompanied by a tiny puddle of espresso, freshly made and topped with the sandy brown thickness of crema. A fruity aroma arose, reminding one of roasted chestnut and buckwheat honey. The sweet smell of caramel in the coffee itself should go right with the vanilla ice cream indeed.

Slowly pouring the coffee onto the icecream and watching the ice cream slowly melting, thickening the now molten liquid within the cup. The fusion of coffee and vanilla and milk is so inviting to chill in a summery afternoon, when the sun shone partly into the shop. Using a small spoon and scooping up the combined dessert -- soft pillowy icecream dripping with coffee. It tasted simple but good. There was no sour notes in the aftertaste, except for a strangely familiar taste on the palate left from the store-bought icecream. How wonderful would it have been should the icecream were really a light fluffy vanilla gelato?

It was before the time when coffee shops like Holly Brown and 18 Grams opened their doors. Scooping up the last bit of ice cream and coffee, one must wonder how foodies make up their minds to try new things, or old favorites not sampled before. They explore the streets and alleys in search of hidden finds, demonstrating the love and passion with an unblinking eye, recording their experiences for the world to see. There is no simpler way to say it but sometimes, taking a chance on something we love is just as it is like an affogato -- simple yet scrumptiously satisfying.

It doesn't always end up perfect, but the high of taking that initiative to get out and find the new and share with others...is truly amazing, and something to keeps me going day after day.
