來過 jean may 幾次,之前寫過食評,今次這個食評只想簡單講些意見,因為今天 jean may 似乎沒有保持之前水準。【 前言 】雖然 jean may 定位是一家 bistro,憑過往經驗,jean may 食物質素是 more than bistro food 的 。小妹對 jean may 的期望,超過一家 bistro。但是 jean may 也非 restaurant,亦不應抬舉到跟 Gaddi’s、Caprice、Amber 等餐廳相比,這樣也對 jean may 不公平。去過巴黎的話,大家也許發現,巴黎很多地方都是 rip-offs 來的,坐得不舒服,食物粗糙平庸,美食之都,縱然不是幻想出來之物,恐怕只對小眾餐廳而言,好些 bistro 或者 brasserie 小酒館,都是「遊客」餐館,並非美食之地(當然其中也有好的)。反而日本的法國菜,整體水準甚高,你去東京的 bistro 或者 brasserie 都很少難吃的。而 jean may 嘛,好過很多巴黎的 bistros 啦。【 Wine 】先講酒。以前來這裡必自己帶酒($300 開瓶費)因為小妹對 natura

【 前言 】

雖然 jean may 定位是一家 bistro,憑過往經驗,jean may 食物質素是 more than bistro food 的 。小妹對 jean may 的期望,超過一家 bistro。但是 jean may 也非 restaurant,亦不應抬舉到跟 Gaddi’s、Caprice、Amber 等餐廳相比,這樣也對 jean may 不公平。

去過巴黎的話,大家也許發現,巴黎很多地方都是 rip-offs 來的,坐得不舒服,食物粗糙平庸,美食之都,縱然不是幻想出來之物,恐怕只對小眾餐廳而言,好些 bistro 或者 brasserie 小酒館,都是「遊客」餐館,並非美食之地(當然其中也有好的)。反而日本的法國菜,整體水準甚高,你去東京的 bistro 或者 brasserie 都很少難吃的。而 jean may 嘛,好過很多巴黎的 bistros 啦。

【 Wine 】

先講酒。以前來這裡必自己帶酒($300 開瓶費)因為小妹對 natural wines 甚有戒心。後來朋友說酒牌豐富了,有 proper 的 Bourgogne 啦,今次不自帶酒,試了酒牌上一支 Chablis 的村酒($ 860)。作為 bistro casual lunch 的酒,都十分 drinkable 的。

至於價錢貴不貴?例如 【 Shimeiji frits, parmesan 】 (炸日本占地菇)要 $88。小妹之前食評提及過巴黎的 bistro 也可以很貴的,例如 L’Ami Louis。jean may 的價錢是較進取的,不過如果維持著質素,小妹完全接受。

主菜無疑令人失望了。一直吃這道 【 Duck à l’orange 】都很完美的。今天醬汁缺乏橙味,而且調味太鹹(不是濃,而是下多了鹽的鹹),對於招牌菜,這個不可接受,單單這一瑕疵,已經不能給笑臉😋啦。

【 總結 】

食肆最重要是 consistency,不但食物,還有烹調的技術和服務,講求重複一致性,不能今天來好吃,明天走晒樣。 香港最大的毛病就是 inconsistency,有很多原因,人手是其一(turnover 快,未能留住經驗員工),P&L 的考慮令老闆對食物材料退而求次等。

今天的經驗:服務上,年輕男服務員 take order 時,我們四個人話要三隻蠔,但是上菜還是四隻,無論是 front 或者廚房搞錯,都是錯誤。雖然無傷大雅,但是準確性是很重要的呢。

整體來說還算不差,尤其是前菜和小吃類。而且酒牌都改善了。只是主菜和甜品中的 madeleines 有些不達原有水準,希望店方注意一下 ☝🏽😎。如果質素未能維持,就會令 core 的客戶群流失了。

灣仔嘅 Jean May 餐廳,雖然地方唔大,但真係帶來大驚喜!呢間餐廳主打法式同地中海菜,食物質素非常高。首先,我哋試咗生蠔,新鮮得不得了,搭配佢哋自家製嘅醬汁,味道超正!接住來嘅法式洋蔥湯,濃郁又香,搭配酥脆嘅麵包片,真係好滿足。主菜方面,我選咗香煎鱸魚,外脆內嫩,搭配清新嘅時蔬,味道非常好。朋友則點咗牛肉塔塔,牛肉新鮮,調味適中,食落去口感滑順,真係好味!最後,甜品嘅巧克力熔心蛋糕亦好有驚喜,搭配香草冰淇淋,完美結尾。

雖然這裡的食物挺貴的,但它的Duck à l'Orange ,真是一道典雅的法國經典,將酥脆的鴨皮與多汁的鴨肉完美結合。橙汁的酸甜滋味,為鴨肉增添了一層清新的風味,使每一口都充滿層次感。接下來是令人垂涎的 Sticky Date Pudding,這道甜品以柔軟的蛋糕搭配濃郁的焦糖醬,口感濃厚卻不過於甜膩。它的香氣撲鼻而來,每一口都是暖心的享受,特別是搭配一球香滑的冰淇淋,讓人感到無比滿足。每次來這餐廳,都只吃這兩道菜了!

今日經過灣仔諗住晚餐試下法國菜.入到去menu已經選擇不多.服務一般地方很小.每張枱距離好近.枱面也很小隔離枱傾偈都可以清晰聽到.有點嘈.菜式味道一般.不配收這個價錢.最恐怖就係溫水都要收錢.埋單後有種俾人呃嘅感覺.一定無下次我諗這間小店繼續用這樣方式經營落去應該都好快消失,

野食無乜大問題,過得去。但收呢個價錢,呢個服務水準就真係好垃圾,好似去左澳洲牛奶公司。話說我book七點鐘,message同我講只可以食兩個鐘,咁唔緊要啦,唯有快少少食囉。食到八點,出面開始有人等位,佢就係咁催我點甜品,又要我埋單先。個羊架我都未食曬,個waitress問都無問就想拎走隻碟。我心諗what is happening?! 我仲有一個鐘架喎!我就問個waitress做咩趕我走,佢話同事搞錯左,無同我講佢地第一輪係六點半開始,八點半就一定要走。我心諗咁到得?但我望住隔離個枱講英文既食客,佢地早過我黎,唔知係咪因為開左枝紅酒,就可以慢慢傾計,而我地識講廣東話既就要俾人趕走呢?我check 返message,個餐廳send msg俾我都係叫我九點走。老實說,每人八百蚊,我相信呢個價錢一定可以搵到間服務同食物質素都高既法國餐廳。如果想體驗法式牛奶公司,你就可以黎呢度受苦受難。

Unfortunately, my experience was below average.

Food Quality
The food did not live up to the standards I expected from a French restaurant. All food is just fair. The presentation was fine, but taste is what truly matters, and we are left disappointed.
Especially all the main - duck breast was chewy, pasta was too salty and lamb is just below average.

Price
Considering the quality of the food, the prices felt too high. We expected a more refined dining experience for the amount paid, but we didn’t receive the value we anticipated.

Environment
Just not a french restaurant standard.

Overall, it fell short in food quality, value for money, and atmosphere. I hope they can make improvements especially in food quality.

Used to love coming to Jean May for the lovely cuisine and bistro ambience. Noticed in my recent visit that their business is not as busy as before. Thought may be it’s the economy in general. Salad and other appetizers are still yummy as usual. However, the fish bouillabaisse was a bit of a disappointment as the seasoning was a bit too strong and cost $198+10%. Will still come in the future but will stick with the usual dishes and stay away from soup.

朋友約dinner, 話係佢最鍾意嘅法國菜餐廳之一點咗個前菜:海膽炒蛋,鮮甜滑溜嘅炒蛋同海膽融為一體,已經分唔出邊一啖係雞蛋邊一啖係海膽,好美味呀🤩呢度嘅薯條咁出名,果然名不虛傳,未食已經聞到陣薯條嘅香味,食落去有一種淡淡嘅甜味,好味過我以前食過嘅薯條,Impressive ar青口魷魚homemade pasta, 麵條煙靭有啲似食刀削麵嘅感覺,唔錯Passion fruit Pavlova 冇諗過甜品咁大件,Pavlova 好脆身,有啲似食焗生果乾咁脆。熱情果汁嘅酸同香味簡直就係幫Pavlova 噴咗香水咁,成件都香噴噴,食完大滿足

第一次到訪Jean May ,聽同行朋友講,這裏以前是預約困難店,大約需要等一個月才訂到位,但今次只是早過多禮拜就可以訂到周五晚市。餐廳餐牌沒有什麼選擇,所以叫了招牌菜Duck ā l’orange,也要了店員推介的chicken terrine、shimeji frites (炸菇)鴨肉比想像中靭、亦有種中式的味道🙊 炸菇沒太大特色,反而chicken terrine有驚喜,很喜歡雞肝的味道😚餐廳每人min charge $500,叫三道菜已經可以meet到,但整體不太划算🫡

After acquiring her cooking skills in France from the famous chef Pierre Koffmann, Tiffany returned to Hong Kong and invested in her own restaurant. I honestly enjoyed every dish here and will definitely come back. Hong Kong is not short of high-end restaurants, but not all of them can capture the true spirit of the food. Jean May is one of those exceptional places.

Very poor service despite ordering many course the staff kept rushing us for special event no cake was given. Despite 2 hour limit by 1.5 hour they kept rushing us to leave. Would not recommend having special occasions at this location. Food was so so but poor staff
