Based on a recommendation, we made a reservation for 5 pax on Saturday to try Tabibito. When we arrived the table was not ready and we waited another 10-15 minutes for the table to be ready, which was not a problem. The entire restaurant only seats about 15-20 pax inside and abother 8-10 pax on the outside/inside high communal counter. And the space is small....they actually moved us to the outside/inside communal high counter seating area, which gave us a little more space, but not much more. The servers were extremely friendly and accomodating and doing their best to make it a good meal, but a bit disorganized in general in terms of seating, ordering, bringing drinks. But once the orders were placed and the food started to come out everything was nice and relaxing. The food itself was good/very good. Tabibito is an Okazu (Japanese Tapas) concept and the japanese word"Tabibito" translates to "The Traveler" in English. The food menu is divided into four sections: ‘raw’, ‘sea’, ‘land’, and ‘soil, each with at least six items to choose from to cater to everyone’s tastes. We started with a few Hitachino beers and ordered a bottle of Sake. For food we ordered the Mac N Cheese with Uni and truffles (good/ok), Spicy Wagyu Tartare Tenderloin with Spicy Miso, Egg yolk, White Sesame, Capers, Rice Crackers (very good), Razor clams with eringi mushrooms, edamame and Hitachino white ale foam (very very good), Sweet corn tempura with mozzarella cheese (OK), Chicken karaage (good). Peppers (very good), Stuffed Baby Squid with Chorizo (taste was OK, but portion too smalll for the price)
The portions are not very big so you’d definitely need to order at least a few per person. Best to come with a big group of friends for it to be more forgiving on your wallet and also for you to be able to sample more things on the menu.
We felt the food was good to very good, service although a bit disorganized was extremely friendly and doing their best, price to value was high. We think if the portion size was a bit more then it would be worth the return. But defintely recommended if you are a large group (6 + ) so you can try many dishes while not breaking the bank.
