I ate at News Room from time to time usually at the weekends.  In particular, I used to enjoy going there for breakfast as there was no crowd.  but the service has deteriorated over the years.  I went back today hoping things might have changed.As I would like to sit outside which was a self service area, I went into the restaurant asking for the menu.  Without a spoken word, the waiter threw me the menu in a most unwelcoming manner - as if I was asking for a big favour.They have a new menu and

As I would like to sit outside which was a self service area, I went into the restaurant asking for the menu.  Without a spoken word, the waiter threw me the menu in a most unwelcoming manner - as if I was asking for a big favour.

They have a new menu and now have different kinds of burger on offer.  We ordered one and it was greasy, and came without fries unlike before.  Not only was the burger greasy, it was too salty, and was put on a plastic container.  This made the presentation rather cheap, as if you were eating out at a fast food restaurant.  The burger wasn't juicy as one would expect, and in fact the meat was quite dry.  We weren't given any ketchup to go with it, probably because there were no fries, so had to ask separately for it.  The quality of food has gone down whilst the service level stays the same - as bad as before.

I think I have given this restaurant the last chance, and will not return.  There is a much better alternative just next door.

Service was good. Food quality / presentation and taste was very poor. Prices have increased significantly since the last time i was there, a few months agoI used to rave about the Newsroom's burgers. I used to rave about the Newsroom's burgers. Since I was last there, they have increased in price by about 50%.

如果係鰂魚涌想食早餐,搵位難免麻煩.我都唔例外,但係THE NEWS ROOM一定幫到你,因為我每次都見到入面無人,就算有,都係得3/5隻小貓,唔洗搵位,夠清靜.原因只有一個,就係貴麻,但我深信一分錢一分貨EGG BENEDICT X2,$88,無野飲跟荷蘭汁應該係新鮮,好FRESH既檸檬味,又唔會太酸,蛋當然係流心,HAM既份量十分多,約4片左右係每一舊EGG BENEDICT度,咸香肉味濃,底下既MUFFIN帶脆身,蛋汁和荷蘭汁把MUFFIN濕潤了,一脆一軟十分好味.各種食材欠一不可唯獨問題係經營模式,如果長期無客,要麼減價,亦可改賣中價早餐,約五十多元,包野飲,應該比依家既人流好.我叫埋杯香濃既凍咖啡$37已經埋單連加1$138,我其實去酒店食自助早餐仲過癮

EGG BENEDICT X2,$88,無野飲跟

荷蘭汁應該係新鮮,好FRESH既檸檬味,又唔會太酸,蛋當然係流心,HAM既份量十分多,約4片左右係每一舊EGG BENEDICT度,咸香肉味濃,底下既MUFFIN帶脆身,蛋汁和荷蘭汁把MUFFIN濕潤了,一脆一軟十分好味.各種食材欠一不可

唯獨問題係經營模式,如果長期無客,要麼減價,亦可改賣中價早餐,約五十多元,包野飲,應該比依家既人流好.

OK, the weather is bad, just want a place with good air conditioning to a have a relaxing lunch.  Previously had drinks outdoor, now finally giving it a try for lunch.

We did not have any particular expectations since it was our first lunch visit.  Some items on the menu looked interesting, such as the French Rabbit, however, thought this was too complex for a Saturday lunch.  We settled on the following:

First, wanted to give the "Louisiana Chili Crab Cakes" a go.  A bit on the small side, but the taste more than made up for it.  Quite a bit of chunky crab meats inside a moist and nicely pan fried patties.  Surprisingly it was not at all spicy, don't let the "Chili" in the name fool you, but the meaty crabs was quite tasty.

The "Warm Mushroom & Baby Asparagus Salad" was nicely done.  The large grilled Potabello mushroom was nicely grilled, the Asparagus was sweet and tender, but the dressing used was the highlight, it was refreshingly light and tangy.  The dressing blended very well with all the veggies.

Finally, ordered the "Duck Confit Tagliatelle", the pasta was al dente but a bit on the bland side.  The Duck Confit was shereded and mixed in with the pasta, top with ripe cherry tomatoes (nicely peeled).  When it arrived, it didn't look too apealing at first sight, however once we dug in, it was all right, not great and not bad, just not too much too talk about.

Since it was Saturday, had time, decided to had out to another place for dessert and coffee.

had brunch at The News Room, we had egg benedict, 3 eggs omelette and pancake. Egg benedict was not hot enough, sauces are dried out, the omelette was very salty and the pancake is burn on one side, very thick and tasteless. Its totally not worth to pay this much of money to brunch in this restaurant.

這一餐跟家弟的新年飯,可以用好事多磨來形容,首先是大家要到差不多一月中才有時間出來,而本來我想去的地方,不巧正於當日午飯時間進行維修工程而閉店,旁邊的一家就因家弟的電子優惠券用不到而作罷,最後來了這裡。對上一次來已是很久很久之前(該有差不多兩年了吧?)的事,好像也是吃午飯還是 brunch 之類的。時移世易,餐牌上的項目也改動了一點。今次來就點些「正餐」一點的。Wild leaf, grapefruit & apple salad ($82) 是一個輕怡的沙律,以沙律業為主,伴以紅肉西柚、薄片茴香、蘋果、烤松子仁和香草等。西柚肉的味道不太甜,加上主要都是味道輕清的蔬菜和偏向輕手的沙律汁,感覺不是很有個性。Scallop with rice cake ($228) 配以番紅花忌廉汁。這個是比較物非所值的一道菜,帶子煎得太熟所以較為乾硬,而那個飯餅也是同樣的問題,太乾。不知是否我口味偏好的問題我覺得那些配菜反而是最好吃的。老弟堂堂大男人怎麼也要有點澱粉質到肚,便逕自點下 Toasted Bagel (smoked salmon & capers) ($96) 一客,我也吃了一點,其實味道沒

老弟堂堂大男人怎麼也要有點澱粉質到肚,便逕自點下 Toasted Bagel (smoked salmon & capers) ($96) 一客,我也吃了一點,其實味道沒什麼問題,不過這樣一個 bagel 在過兩條街的 bagel 店只賣一半的價錢...ok ok 人家要鋪租人工裝修 wifi 就是如此囉。

最後到甜品時間,以前在 Press Room 吃過一道 Pear Tarte Tatin ($75) 印象頗好,今次在這裡重遇自是機不可失。這個是一人份的,但我們二人分吃剛剛好。 不過這一個的賣相就有點馬虎,雖然這個撻是用酥皮蓋着水果,弄好之後再翻轉上桌的,但這個真是反轉的功夫 也省下,所以就見到上桌的時候是一大塊酥皮蓋着梨子,佐以焦糖拖肥醬和雪糕。當然味道是十分甜美,伴着醬汁雪糕吃,滑溜度多了三分。

這裏的上菜速度相對地緩慢,由於我有點趕時間,所以等上菜也難免有點焦躁。所以如果大家有大把時間歎個 brunch 的話這裡可是一個不錯的選擇。

The event was a success and I hope they will do it again because there were so many expats there and it gave me an opportunity to try the restaurants in that group which were: The Pawn, The Principal, The News Room, SML and Classified.
All food and beverage was paid for using tokens which were available for purchase at the reception.
As a summary, the fish and chips were the best and it was a bargain for $50 with two huge succulent chunks of fish.
The weather was a bit too hot and sunny that day but once I started eating the food it was so delicious that the hot weather did not bother me.

我與TC在seafood內選了個輕食的Salmon Gravlax。Gravlax大慨就像煙三文魚,用了鹽、糖及香料dill處理保存再於吃時淋上醬汁,是北歐的菜式。其實只要餐廳的三文魚來貨沒有大問題,這道菜就不會出事,畢竟不用煮。這裡的三文魚是正常的貨色,正常對我來說就是好吃。

第二我們要了都是屬於seafood的Louisiana Chili Crab Cakes,好像要大約100元。這蟹餅上菜時是新鮮熱辣,底面都煎得微焦,吃入口時便感覺到外層的脆,而中間則軟軟的有很多蟹肉,不用下什麼醬汁亦已經很好吃。

好吧我們也要了一個sides Sauteed Spinach with Garlic ,亦即炒菠菜。碗很大,菜很少,油很多。炒的應該是中式的菠菜,所以42元不太值,下次要聰明點不吃這個。

Brunch中的皇牌要吃的就是egg benedict,當然我們要了Eggs Royale。好吧,我承認,我對brunch是有一點自己(太高)的要求。比如說,我希望可有一點伴菜例如沙律或者生果,烤薯仔或薯條都得,否則看上去好像有點寒酸,見到也沒有興奮感。就好像the News Room的這個,看了不會立即想切來吃,鄰桌見到應該會興幸自己沒點。話說加一點伴菜不用花太多成本但食客會開心很多何樂而不為?而且這道菜本身也不便宜,當然好吃的話就算吧。偏偏這裡的只是一般。汁稍為酸了點,蛋有流心,但底層的english muffin很淋很淋,與蛋汁混在一起變成了一pat。水準不高,可以不吃。

所以這次的brunch有好的有壞的,整體感覺一般,大慨是因為brunch的主打eggs royale只是麻麻。而且,這裡的價錢可真不便宜,同樣的價錢可以在soho或上環吃好很好的brunch。

在鰂魚涌想食個靚早餐,好似得呢度簡叫了1個NEWSROOM BREAKFAST,1個DOUBLE EGG BENEDICTNEWSROOM BREAKFAST姐係通街都是的ALL DAY BREAKFAST,但係呢度係有BLACK PUDDING2隻POACHED EGGS,腸(無貨....變成3隻POACHED EGGS),煙肉之類等等(我上載了MENU)BLACK PUDDING一點也感覺不到內臟味,咸咸地,質感似係午餐肉,幾好味呀大大粒茹多汁,茹味重!POACHED EGGS無OVERCOOKED,爆蛋汁!看似很少食完又好飽.質素也不差另外EGG BENEDICT個茄蘭汁個面好似好熟,但連埋蛋CUT開也流汁(建議個汁唔好煮得咁耐)加上咸咸香香既PARMA HAM,吸哂汁既包,每一口也爽歪歪在呢區來講真的不錯喔

叫了1個NEWSROOM BREAKFAST,1個DOUBLE EGG BENEDICT

NEWSROOM BREAKFAST姐係通街都是的ALL DAY BREAKFAST,但係呢度係有BLACK PUDDING

2隻POACHED EGGS,腸(無貨....變成3隻POACHED EGGS),煙肉之類等等(我上載了MENU)

BLACK PUDDING一點也感覺不到內臟味,咸咸地,質感似係午餐肉,幾好味呀

大大粒茹多汁,茹味重!POACHED EGGS無OVERCOOKED,爆蛋汁!

看似很少食完又好飽.質素也不差

另外EGG BENEDICT

個茄蘭汁個面好似好熟,但連埋蛋CUT開也流汁(建議個汁唔好煮得咁耐)

加上咸咸香香既PARMA HAM,吸哂汁既包,每一口也爽歪歪

在呢區來講真的不錯喔

We came here tonight to celebrate my friend's dinner and to take advantage of the 40% off on the al la carte menu every Tuesday with American Express Credit Card. The News Room, located at Quarry bay is the my last restaurant to try in the Press Room Group. We came here tonight to celebrate my friend's dinner and to take advantage of the 40% off on the al la carte menu every Tuesday with American Express Credit Card. The dinner was enjoyable with my lovely friends but the food offered by the Press Room Group was once again quite disappointing. Fortunately my friends still like it, if not I would feel bad about it.

Complimentary bread
The complimentary bread was quite disappointing, I wish they could at least toast the bread a little. Served with the soft bread was unsalted butter (how smart!). I sprinkled some salt and pepper on top of the bread and you will find your bread taste nicer all of a sudden.

Louisiana Chilli Crab Cakes
A tiny crab cake served with side salad. The crab cake was mildly spicy and creamy with lumps of crab meats. If you squeeze the lime on top, the crab cake tasted even nicer. This appetiser is quite nice but they are skimpy about the portion.

Asparagus Tart
This dish comes with a nice presentation - a soft boiled egg, sliced cucumber and asparagus on top of a tart base served with hollandaise sauce . The soft boiled egg was nicely cooked with runny yolk but the yolk was not sweet nor creamy. The tart itself was quire hard in texture, so I didn't really like this dish.

Sticky Glazed Beef Short Rib
The short rib was served with sweet potato, whipped parsnips and round onions. The short rib was braised to an extremely soft texture and broke apart once you tried to cut it. I didn't like the texture very much, but it was tender and savoury enough. The whipped parsnips was very creamy and I love the sweet potato crisps on top which had a surprising aroma of smoked apple.

Crab and Clams Linguine
The crab and clams linguine was overloaded, the portion was big. There were quite a lot of clams at the bottom but they were not very sweet in taste. There are occasional lumps of crab meats within the dishes. The linguine was alright, a bit on the soft side though.

Corn on the Cob
Looking fabulous on our table, the corn on the cob was actually pretty disappointing. The corn itself was not sweet, adding to the fact that it was not seasoned, there was absolutely no taste to it. Anyone would not butter and salt do the magic to corn. DISAPPOINTED!

Pear Tarte Tatin (for 2)
We ordered the Pear Tarte Tatin as the "birthday cake" for my friend's birthday. When this was served, we were stunned. NOT because of the beautiful presentation of the pear tarte tatin, but because it looks nothing but like a grilled honey chicken fillet. (You can probably see it from the picture too!) Anyways, this tatin tasted amazing, the pear was very fruity and the crust was very crunchy. The pear tarte tatin tasted much better with the cream. Finally something impressed me for the night!

After tonight's dinner, I firmly believe I would not ever want to diner at the Press Room Group ever again (okay, perhaps Classified is okay.) Their food don't really impress me and they are quite pricey given the taste and quality. Perhaps there is a reason with the 40% discount on every Tuesday and 20% any other nights.

記得在蠻久以前,就跟Issac和Chris來了一個超豐富的午餐,午餐是三道菜的,食物放得整桌都是,極豐富,記得價位約是$150-$250 左右吧,其實對當天的菜式印象真有點太模糊,但就記得最好吃的是這個薯條,真的非常好吃,是麥當勞薯條的闊度,要一條一條吃過不停真並非難事,外脆帶微微的煙韌,熱燙燙的,薯肉也香,主菜的那個牛扒牛氣逼人,肉香十足,就是會韌身一點,但我其實也接受很有咬口的牛肉呢。消費: $200

We ordered double egg royal with smoked salmon and pancake with ice cream. To be honest, I am disappointed. The pancake is very dry and with not much flavor at all. The double egg Benedict was really average. To charge a price of nearly 100hkd outside of central, I was expecting the quality to match Bricklane in Tst at least.

Don't go to this restaurant, unless you want to have business lunch with someone where he has nothing to eat and all he can do is to talk business with you. For $140 for 2-course lunch, at least they can serve a bigger portion. The two of us need to buy a double hamburger from Mcdonalds after that.... My friend had a fish cake, and I had a rocket and tomato salad for appetizer. The diameter of a door handle is even larger than that of that SINGLE piece of fish cake, and you can count how many

My friend had a fish cake, and I had a rocket and tomato salad for appetizer. The diameter of a door handle is even larger than that of that SINGLE piece of fish cake, and you can count how many rocket leaves there are in my salad. My friend had lamb rack for main, and it was basically bones - no meat.

On 2nd thought, don't even go there for business lunch. You won't win a deal with a hungry business partner.
