Yardbird is located along Bridges Street (an extension from Staunton from the main strip in Soho. We made the mistake of getting out at Sheung Wan (looking at the proximity from the map) and having to climb up the aptly named Ladder Street of never ending small staircases to work up an appetite. It would be probably better to take Central escalator up to the Soho level and walk across. The small two level restaurant was already bustling with people at 7pm. And items were already running out! The small two level restaurant was already bustling with people at 7pm. And items were already running out! They would not seat us until the entire party had shown up so hubby and I grabbed an empty seat the bar (the last two) and ordered some drinks. They have a nice selection of Sochu and Sake, along with wines by the bottle or glass. Before out party fully arrived, they already started to run out of the 'Chicken Oyster' which was one of the most popular. Without even knowing what it was, we ordered 2 skewers.
Everyone here (almost) is charcoaled grill and is on skewers (yakitori), and each skewer (2 pcs/ea) was about $38-42 HKD (make no mistake). It's mostly chicken, with some specials listed on the board above. We probably ate every single part of the chicken - thigh, skin, gizzard, tail, knee, liver, neck. Each had a different texture and marinated slightly differently. I loved all of it, the weirder the better, but still my favourite was the knee.
There are other dishes that were larger and more shareable ($120-130) including the quail, lambe (special), chicken meatball, KFC - korean fried cauliflower (which is recommended by almost every review I read - it's good), corn tempura (juicy and crispy) and an egg/chicken fried rice that added the starch to our meal.
There wasn't anything here that I didn't like and I would come back again (aside from the fact that the next time I'm here another resto will probably be all the rage).
The wait staff is friendly, and I was surprised even at the bar, when I was asking about the chicken oyster they told me it was running out and I ought to order it asap. I think we over stayed our welcome at the end, it's not really the place to order drinks and continue talking after the meal was over. They didn't kick us out, but it was clear when they took our plates, glasses and drinks without asking if we want more or refilling our water. At least they weren't rude about it.
There's no dessert except homemade ice cream, so would go elsewhere if you still have room!
